Fang Zar, a human senator of the male persuasion, represented Sern Prime and its encompassing sector within the Galactic Senate during the tumultuous era of the Clone Wars. Before the war concluded, his anxieties concerning alterations to the constitution led him to join the ranks of the Delegation of 2,000. Consequently, he and his fellow delegates presented the Petition of 2,000 to Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine. In the aftermath of Order 66, Palpatine transformed the Republic into the Galactic Empire. A day following the Empire's inception, Imperial Intelligence orchestrated a mass arrest of senators, Zar among them.
During the Clone Wars conflict against the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Fang Zar, a male human, held the position of senator for both Sern Prime and the broader Sern sector within the Galactic Senate of the Galactic Republic. Zar was present within the Galactic Senate Chamber when Senator Rush Clovis delivered a speech regarding his and Senator Padmé Amidala's uncovering of corruption within the InterGalactic Banking Clan.
Zar witnessed the Senate's reaction to the news in the Senate Chamber after Clovis was appointed head of the Banking Clan and significantly raised interest rates on Republic loans, but not on Separatist loans.
Following a mission to Oba Diah by the Jedi Order, Zar, along with fellow Mon Calamari Senator Meena Tills, was present in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant when Jedi Master Mace Windu approached Master Obi-Wan Kenobi to discuss his worries about Grand Master Yoda's well-being.
As the Clone Wars neared their end, Zar became a member of the Delegation of 2,000, a group of senators concerned about the growing political power of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. This Delegation presented the Petition of 2,000, a formal expression of their concerns about Palpatine's increasing authority. Ultimately, Palpatine, secretly the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious, branded the Jedi as traitors to the Republic and transformed the Republic into the Galactic Empire, naming himself its Emperor.
A day after the formation of the Empire, Imperial Intelligence arrested sixty-three senators from the Delegation, including Zar, due to accusations of conspiracy and treason.
Fang Zar was characterized by his lengthy, graying beard and his penchant for wearing a lilac robe adorned with a diamond pattern.
While many senators took pride in donning the traditional attire of their respective homeworlds, others leveraged their positions and significant office budgets to acquire opulent outfits. On Coruscant, they sported flamboyant creations crafted by renowned designers using exquisite and rare fabrics. Senator Fang Zar was among those who favored such extravagant displays.

Fang Zar's debut occurred in the 2005 film Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, which served as the concluding chapter of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. He was brought to life by Warren Owens.
The initial concept art envisioned Fang Zar with prominent aboriginal facial characteristics, leading casting director Christine King to select Owens for the role.
Zar was later identified within the episode guide for "An Old Friend," the fifth episode of the sixth season released in 2014; however, his appearance was ultimately omitted from the final version. He subsequently appeared in the season, beginning with the episode "The Rise of Clovis."
