Delegation of 2,000

The Delegation of 2,000 comprised a group of senators within the Galactic Senate who shared similar concerns. A substantial portion of this group were affiliated with the Loyalist Committee. These two thousand senators were troubled by the methods employed by Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, secretly the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious, during the prosecution of the Clone Wars. They also disapproved of his increasing concentration of executive authority and the alterations he made to the Galactic Constitution. During gatherings at Cantham House meetings, this group formulated the Petition of 2,000. This petition served as a formal objection to Palpatine's actions, explicitly demanding the return of the emergency powers he had assumed following the war's conclusion, which the delegation aimed to conclude via a cease-fire.

Furthermore, the petition called for the annulment of the Sector Governance Decree. In a noteworthy moment during one of the Cantham House meetings, approximately one month prior to the end of the Republic Era, Amidala emphasized that ending the war was an essential component of the petition, as it eliminated Palpatine's justification for implementing constitutional amendments. On the day following the establishment of the Empire, Imperial Intelligence arrested sixty-three senators on charges of conspiracy and treason, with several of these senators belonging to the Delegation of 2,000.
