Second Fleet (Galactic Alliance)
The Second Fleet, a component of the Galactic Alliance Defense Fleet, played a significant role as one of the four fleets of the Alliance during the latter stages of the Yuuzhan Vong Invasion. This fleet was originally the New Republic Second Battle Group.
History
Under the leadership of General Garm Bel Iblis, the fleet saw action within the Core Worlds, successfully liberating Corulag from Yuuzhan Vong control during the Battle of Corulag. The Second Fleet also fought in the Battle of Yuuzhan'tar. After the establishment of the Fifth Fleet after the war, some of the Second Fleet's more experienced vessels and crews were transferred to the newly formed fleet; this included the Mon Mothma.
In the years that followed the conclusion of the Vong war, the Second Fleet conducted yearly patrols along the path of the Vong invasion, searching for any remaining pockets of resistance.
In 40 ABY, a task force belonging to the Second Fleet, under the command of Admiral Matric Klauskin, participated in a show of force within the Corellian system. Following the failure of this operation, Klauskin, in an attempt to salvage his reputation, chose to attack and occupy the Corellian world of Tralus, which initiated the Second Galactic Civil War. After Klauskin was relieved of his command due to perceived instability, Admiral Tarla Limpan assumed leadership of the Second Fleet.
The Second Fleet met its end in an ambush within the Corellian system, destroyed by a repulsor blast originating from the reactivated Centerpoint Station, resulting in the complete destruction of all ships and the loss of all personnel.
