Glowblue noodles

Glowblue noodles were a noodle dish of a distinctive blue color, conceived by the chef Gormaanda. She showcased the preparation of this recipe in one of her cooking holovids. Their adaptability to suit different diets made them a versatile option, suitable for consumption by both humans and Artiodacs such as Strono Tuggs. Tuggs subsequently incorporated Gormaanda's recipe into his cookbook, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, which was released in 34 ABY. They could be served in various ways, including in take-out containers, accompanied by chav tea, or enhanced with sauce as a topping.

Description

A vibrant [blue](/article/color] hue characterized the noodle dish known as Glowblue noodles. The chef responsible for its creation was Gormaanda, a four-armed culinary artist who shared the recipe in her holovids. The fundamental recipe's adaptability made it suitable for various diets, catering to both humans and Artiodacs.

History

A Pre-Mor officer ate glowblue noodles out of a take-out container.

Glowblue noodles were offered in take-out containers on the planet Morlana One during 5 BBY. While investigating the murder of Cassian Andor, an officer from the Pre-Mor Security Inspection team consumed the noodles from a take-out container at a workstation within Corporate Security Headquarters. At a different point during the Imperial Era, a pavilion located on the moon Dhandu 3 also served the noodles. During a staged altercation between the smuggler Han Solo and the pirate Hondo Ohnaka, Ohnaka pushed Solo into a table, causing it to collapse and sending a plate of glowblue noodles and chav tea onto Trunc Adurmush, a Pakiphantos, and his gang.

The Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs discovered Gormaanda's ancient holovids during his youth, inspiring him to pursue cooking. He developed a fondness for her glowblue noodles, considering them a staple recipe. He published his inaugural cookbook, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, in 34 ABY, featuring his idol's recipe under the title Gormaanda's Glowblue Noodles. He enhanced the dish with toppings such as white sauce, yellow- and orange-colored wedges, and a possible garnish of Golden Lichen Tuile, a savory cookie of his own creation.

Behind the scenes

Gormaanda with Glowblue Noodles and Chav from Star Wars Legends

The Star Wars canon first featured glowblue noodles in the junior novel Pirate's Price, authored by Lou Anders and released on January 8, 2019. They were first depicted visually on November 5 of that same year in the recipe book Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, written by Marc Sumerak and Chelsea Monroe-Cassel. The out-of-universe recipe uses water, blue butterfly pea tea bags, salt, and rice noodles as ingredients to create the blue-colored noodles. The cheese sauce is prepared using unsalted butter, minced garlic, salt, pepper, heavy cream, and grated Parmesan cheese. Mozzarella pearls and cherry tomatoes are used as toppings, with the option of garnishing with the cookbook's Golden Lichen Tuile recipe.

Monroe-Cassel later clarified that a parmesan crisp, the instructions for which are included in the Xizor Salad recipe, should have been used as a garnish instead of the Golden Lichen Tuile. Monroe-Cassel mentioned in an interview that the glowblue noodles recipe was among her favorites in the collection. She expressed that she would not have appreciated the dish as a picky eater during her childhood but now embraces the idea of consuming blue-colored food as an adult.

The Star Wars Legends continuity included the meal Glowblue Noodles and Chav in HoloNet News Vol. 531 #50, an in-universe edition of the HoloNet News. Pablo Hidalgo wrote it, Joe Corroney illustrated it, and it was published on the HoloNet News website on April 4, 2002. Melissa T. Miller highlighted the scarcity of naturally occurring blue foods in reality, contrasting it with the Star Wars universe, where glowblue noodles and other blue food items are common, in her article "Got Blue Milk?." This article was featured in the 227th issue of the Star Wars Insider magazine on August 27, 2024. Miller questioned whether glowblue noodles derive their color from an added ingredient or if it is their inherent hue.
