Biography

Villager of Tuanul

Ilco Munica was no match in combat for the stormtroopers of the First Order.

Hailing originally from the planet of Abednedo, Ilco Munica, an Abednedo male, relocated as an adult to the revered village of Tuanul on Jakku. Similar to the other inhabitants of the village, he was a devotee of the Church of the Force, a religious organization that esteemed the virtues of the Force, despite their inability to wield it, being not able to use it.

In the year 34 ABY, Tuanul suffered an assault by a force of eighty stormtroopers loyal to the First Order. Their objective was to find Lor San Tekka, a retired explorer residing in the village, who possessed a fragment of a map pointing to the location of the missing Jedi Master, Luke Skywalker.

Executed by the First Order

During the conflict, Munica mounted a defense, but the First Order's trained soldiers overwhelmed him. As stormtroopers forced him to his knees at gunpoint, Munica emitted a scream. Subsequently, he and the remaining survivors from the village were herded together. They became witnesses to the arrival of Kylo Ren, a First Order enforcer, who then executed San Tekka upon discovering that the elderly man no longer had possession of the map. This execution incited Poe Dameron, a Resistance pilot who was visiting San Tekka, to emerge from his concealed position and launch an unsuccessful attack on Ren.

Ilco Munica was executed by the First Order.

After it was revealed that Dameron was also without the map, he was taken prisoner and escorted to Ren's shuttle. Subsequently, Captain Phasma, the commander of the stormtroopers present in the village, approached Ren and received the order to eliminate the remaining villagers. Upon the captain's command, the troopers surrounding the captives unleashed a barrage of fire from their blasters, resulting in the deaths of Munica and all other individuals present.

Personality and traits

Ilco Munica possessed mottled pink skin, along with brown hair, and black eyes. In line with the other residents of Tuanul, he eschewed comforts and luxuries, preferring a simple, austere lifestyle. Munica, while not a pacifist, opted to employ only weapons crafted by himself and other villagers, rather than those produced by large corporations that profited from violence. He stood prepared to wield these weapons in defense of his beliefs against the malevolent influence of the dark side of the Force.

Equipment

During his time in Tuanul, Munica was typically seen wearing a green pilgrim's robe along with a pair of brown insulated boots. When engaged in combat, he utilized a blaster rifle that he personally constructed using components that included a pump-action recharger and a salvaged industrial power shunt. The weapon's stock was weighted, allowing it to function as a war club in addition to its primary function.

Behind the scenes

Ilco Munica made his debut in the 2015 film Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, part of the sequel trilogy. The character's screams and shouts were voiced by Dee Bradley Baker, a voice actor renowned for his work as the voice of all the clone trooper characters in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. While the character remained unnamed in the film, his identity was revealed in Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary, a reference book released concurrently with the film and authored by Pablo Hidalgo.

In keeping with the naming convention for all members of the Abednedo species as identified by Hidalgo in the Visual Dictionary, Ilco Munica's name is a nod to the music of the Beastie Boys. J.J. Abrams, the director of The Force Awakens and a fan of the group, frequently incorporates their music into his productions. Munica's name is derived from the album Ill Communication.
