The Malastare system was a star system situated within the Dustig sector of the galaxy's Mid Rim. This system was the location of the planet named Malastare, which served as the homeworld for the Dug species.
Prior to the Clone Wars conflict, a corporate fleet, under the command of Admiral Trench, who was a Harch, had blockaded the planet Malastare. This blockade, however, was eventually broken by a Galactic Republic task force led by both Jedi Master Kep-She and Wullf Yularen. Later on, during the second year of the Clone Wars, the Confederacy of Independent Systems launched an invasion of Malastare with the goal of securing the planet's Malastarian fuel reserves to support their navy. The Separatists' attempts were thwarted when the Republic detonated an electro-proton bomb, effectively disabling the entire droid army on the planet.
Located in the Dustig sector of the galaxy's Mid Rim, the Malastare system was a star system that could be found at grid square N-16 on the Standard Galactic Grid. This system was home to the planet Malastare, the homeworld of the Dug species, which orbited Striar, the system's star. The Malastare system was also positioned along the Biox Detour and the Hydian Way hyperspace routes.
Before the Clone Wars began, Admiral Trench, a Harch, commanded a corporate fleet that had imposed a blockade on the planet Malastare. A Galactic Republic task force under the leadership of Jedi Master Kep-She and Wullf Yularen later attacked and broke this blockade. The battle concluded with the destruction of Trench's flagship by Republic forces, with Trench presumed to have been killed in the explosion.
During the Clone Wars, specifically in the year 21 BBY, the Confederacy of Independent Systems nearly succeeded in capturing Malastare after a long period of combat. Success would have granted them control of the planet's Malastarian fuel resources, which they needed to power their navy. To counter this, Republic forces engaged in battle with the Separatist Droid Army on the planet's surface and were authorized to use an electro-proton bomb to disable the Separatist forces. As the massive droid army approached the Dug palace, a BTL-B Y-wing starfighter/bomber, escorted by several fighters, emerged from the palace hangars and deployed the bomb into the center of the droid ranks. This action deactivated all the droids, preventing the Confederacy from seizing control of the planet.
The Malastare system was first introduced into the new Star Wars canon with the broadcast of "The Zillo Beast," which was the eighteenth episode of the second season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television show. The episode originally aired on April 9, 2010. The system was later officially identified in the 2015 reference book Ultimate Star Wars, published by Dorling Kindersley. The Malastare system had an earlier mention in the Star Wars Legends continuity within The New Essential Guide to Alien Species, a 2006 reference book written by Ann Margaret Lewis along with Helen Keier.
