Morad Sumar, a human agriculturist native to Lothal, shared a long-standing friendship with the parents of Ezra Bridger. During the Galactic Empire's oppressive rule, he valiantly resisted selling his property to the Imperials. Disregarding Sumar's firm refusal, Supply Master Yogar Lyste callously destroyed a portion of his farm and unjustly arrested Sumar and his spouse, Marida. However, Bridger, along with the Lasan High Honor Guardsman Zeb Orrelios, who had commandeered an Imperial TIE fighter, arrived to liberate them.
Morad Sumar, a human male, resided on the world of Lothal during the Imperial Era. In 4 BBY, he was the proprietor of a farm located on the outskirts of Kothal city and maintained a long-term friendship with the parents of the rebel, Ezra Bridger. While on a shopping expedition, Ezra encountered Morad, who was running a fruit stand in the Kothal market. Morad gifted Ezra a jogan fruit but couldn't sell him a Meiloorun fruit because the species didn't naturally grow on Lothal.

Shortly thereafter, Morad received a visit from Imperial Supply Master Yogar Lyste, who expressed interest in purchasing his farm. However, Sumar firmly declined to sell his land to the Empire. Refusing to accept this, Lyste returned to the farm accompanied by three Imperial Troop Transports and a squad of stormtroopers. When Morad reiterated his refusal, Lyste declared that the Empire was no longer interested in buying his farm and commanded his troops to destroy it. Morad, his wife Marida Sumar, and their Aqualish assistant were then apprehended and confined within the Troop Transport's side compartments.
While traveling across Lothal's plains, the Imperial transports encountered a stolen TIE fighter, pilfered by Ezra and his rebel ally Garazeb Orrelios. As the transports engaged the TIE fighter, Ezra successfully boarded the central transport. Harnessing the Force, the young Jedi apprentice managed to release Morad, his wife, and their helper from their bonds. Following Ezra's instructions, the trio escaped into the grassy plains. Meanwhile, Ezra acquired a crate of meiloorun fruit and fled alongside Zeb.

By 2 BBY, Morad and his wife, Marida, had become members of a rebel cell under the leadership of Ryder Azadi, the former Governor of Lothal. By this time, Morad had secured employment as a factory worker at the Imperial Armory Complex, a manufacturing facility for vehicles used by the Imperial Military. There, he was identified by the call sign Worker 5473. Under Ryder's guidance, Morad sabotaged Imperial vehicles, resulting in a significant increase in accidents. In that year, Morad, his wife, and the Ithorian bartender Jho attended a nighttime gathering at Ryder's stone circle in Lothal's wilderness. They were joined by Ezra Bridger, Kanan Jarrus, and the astromech droid Chopper, members of the Spectres who had since joined the Phoenix Cell, a component of the galaxy-spanning rebellion against the Empire.
Upon seeing Ezra, Morad remarked on the boy's growth and expressed that his deceased parents would be proud. Morad and his fellow rebels soon learned that Ezra and his companions were on Lothal seeking assistance from another Rebel cell to dismantle the Imperial factory. Morad and his wife rejoiced at this news. Ezra also informed Morad and Ryder that their contact Fulcrum had provided intelligence indicating that the Empire was developing a new type of weapon and that the Phoenix Squadron needed to ascertain its nature before launching any attack. Morad suspected that the increased security in the factory's Section A2 was related to the weapon and agreed to assist Ezra and his rebel comrades in infiltrating the factory.

The next day, Morad successfully acquired workers' overalls and hoods for Ezra and Kanan. Chopper was also disguised as an Imperial courier droid. Upon their arrival, Morad and his rebel allies were summoned to an assembly convened by Governor Arihnda Pryce, Agent Kallus, and Lieutenant Yogar Lyste. The factory was visited by Grand Admiral Thrawn, dispatched by Imperial High Command to investigate the high rate of malfunctioning vehicles produced at the Lothal factory. Thrawn delivered a speech criticizing the workers for their subpar craftsmanship and then summoned Morad for a test demonstration on a 614-AvA speeder bike.
When Thrawn inquired whether Morad had been coerced into serving the Empire, Sumar confirmed this, citing the loss of his farm. Sumar also claimed to take pride in his workmanship. Given that the speeder bike was the last vehicle Morad had personally inspected, Thrawn instructed him to demonstrate how quickly it could reach maximum speed. With no other option, Morad mounted the speeder and started the engine. As he began to accelerate, the speeder gradually began to overheat. Morad suggested shutting it down, but Thrawn insisted he continue and increased the stimulator. This caused the overheating engine to explode, destroying the bike and killing Morad.
Morad's death deeply affected Ezra, Kanan, the other workers, and even Agent Kallus and Lieutenant Lyste. Having sufficiently intimidated the workers, Thrawn warned them that they would personally test each machine they built. Thrawn also ordered his subordinates to secure the factory and interrogate the workers. Determined not to let Morad's death be in vain, Ezra and his rebel comrades continued their mission and successfully obtained the blueprints for the Imperial weapon, which turned out to be a TIE Defender. With the assistance of a disillusioned Kallus, the Spectres managed to escape and flee with Ryder's group into the wilderness. Ezra also informed Marida of her husband's passing.
Morad Sumar was a human male Lothalian farmer who owned a farm outside Kothal. He specialized in growing fruits including jogan fruits. He was a friend of the Bridger family. Sumar was opposed to selling his farm to the Empire, who retaliated by razing it to the ground and seizing the land. This incident turned Morad and his wife Marida against the Empire. The two then joined a rebel cell led by the former Lothalian Governor Ryder Azadi. Morad used his position as a factory worker at the Lothal City Imperial Armory Complex to sabotage Imperial vehicles, thus hampering the Imperial war effort.
Morad had a deep respect for Ezra and his parents and praised the Bridgers for their work in the rebellion. Morad was visibly intimidated by the Chiss Grand Admiral Thrawn but nevertheless complied with his orders in order to avoid blowing his rebel cover and exposing his comrades. Due to his work as a factory worker, Morad had some experience with operating and inspecting speeder bikes. He was aware that the speeder bikes tended to overheat when reaching maximum speed.
Morad Sumar first appeared as as supporting character in the Star Wars Rebels Season One episode "Fighter Flight," which premiered on October 13, 2014.
