Ost Molkar existed as a moon orbiting the planet known as Trymant IV. This world was located within both the Outer Rim and Western Reaches regions of the galaxy. During the time of the Great Hyperspace Disaster, which occurred in 232 BBY, the moon met its end. It was destroyed by an Emergence, which was a collection of hyperspace wreckage originating from the wrecked Legacy Run freighter. This debris materialized in realspace. By 3 ABY, within the Imperial Era, information regarding the destruction of moons belonging to Trymant IV, Ost Molkar included, could be found within specific databases.
As a celestial body, Ost Molkar was a moon that belonged to the planet Trymant IV, situated in the Outer Rim. This planet itself orbited a binary star within the Trymant system. Being a moon within the Trymant system, Ost Molkar was located in the Western Reaches and also within square L-20 on the Standard Galactic Grid. Praknat 3, another moon of Trymant IV, held the distinction of having the closest orbit to the planet when compared to all other moons, including Ost Molkar.

During the period known as the High Republic Era, the Galactic Republic designated a portion of the Outer Rim as the Galactic Frontier. This area encompassed Trymant IV and consequently its moons. These locations were considered sufficiently distant from the center of the galaxy to warrant the dispatch of explorers. In 232 BBY, the Great Hyperspace Disaster led to the occurrence of Emergences. These events involved fragments of hyperspace debris originating from the destroyed Legacy Run freighter that began to materialize in realspace, colliding with celestial bodies throughout the galaxy. Mari San Tekka, a hyperspace savant held captive by Nihil marauders, foresaw that one such Emergence was soon to strike multiple locations within the Trymant system, including Ost Molkar. Doctor Kisma Uttersond communicated this warning to Marchion Ro, the leader of the Nihil, which prompted him to travel to the Trymant system before the Emergences occurred.
Eventually, Ost Molkar was hit by an Emergence, resulting in its destruction. Following this event, the Jedi Order archived information detailing the disaster within the system. By the time of the Galactic Empire's reign, records of the incident in the Trymant system were still available within certain databases. At one point around 3 ABY, Parazeen Parapa, an intern journalist, examined the files related to the event. During an interview with Zuckuss and 4-LOM, two bounty hunters, he uncovered information about the destruction of Trymant IV's moons. Parapa included these findings in an article he was preparing for Galactic Digest magazine. This article was later reviewed and annotated by TK-7, the Chief Editor Droid of the publication's Culture Desk.
The name Ost Molkar was initially mentioned in "Tales of Villainy: The Gaze Electric," a supporting comic narrative featured in the sixth issue of the 2020 Star Wars Adventures anthology comic series. Daniel José Older wrote the story, and IDW Publishing published the comic issue on July 7, 2021. Older confirmed on Twitter that Ost Molkar was among the Trymant IV moons that were indirectly referenced in "STET!," one of his short stories. The story was published in 2020 as part of the From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back anthology. This made "STET!" Ost Molkar's first indirect mention, achieved retroactively.
