Pammant

Pammant was a planet inhabited by a number of Quarren engineers. On Pammant, the Quarren established both the Free Dac Volunteers Engineering Corps and the Pammant Docks shipbuilding firms, in addition to factories that belonged to the former. By 22 BBY, the Confederacy of Independent Systems had taken control of the planet, using it as a construction site for new starship designs, such as the Providence-class Dreadnought and Subjugator-class heavy cruiser. Throughout the Clone Wars, Pammant and its factories continued to produce ships to provide the Confederacy with a sufficient armada.

History

During the days of the Galactic Republic, the planet Pammant was home to Quarren engineers. By 32 BBY, these engineers had founded both the Quarren Free Dac Volunteers Engineering Corps (QFD) and shipbuilding facilities for the company's use. Other engineers on the planet formed a second corporation, Pammant Docks, creating a partnership between the two. Around 32 BBY, following a failed invasion of Naboo by the Trade Federation, the Quarren shipwrights, at the request of the Federation, designed and built the Providence-class Dreadnought. The Invisible Hand was the first of this new class, serving as the flagship for Viceroy Nute Gunray.

Pammant was the birthplace of the Providence-class Dreadnought (pictured).

Years afterward, Pammant became part of the Confederacy of Independent Systems when QFD and Pammant Docks allied with the government. The initial Separatist armada was composed of heavily armed bulk transports from allied corporations, and the two shipbuilding companies, along with other allies, worked to create a suitable naval force. The Separatists, with their Quarren allies, were able to quickly produce large numbers of capital ships crewed by B1-series battle droids and equipped with various starfighters, including more Providence-class units built at Pammant's facilities. After the Clone Wars began in 22 BBY, QFD and Pammant Docks were commissioned to construct another new warship design, the Subjugator-class heavy cruiser, which Ruggle Schmong had designed for the Separatists. The Subjugator-class Malevolence was secretly built at a vast dry dock far from Republic spies, and then deployed by the Separatists in a multi-month campaign against the Republic. It served as the class's lead starship and initial testbed, but the campaign ended when the ship was destroyed.

By 14 BBY, during the reign of the Galactic Empire, QFD and Pammant Docks no longer had a partnership. In that year, the Empire's Sentinel Base in the Arkanis sector was attacked by a group of insurgents led by Imperial defector Berch Teller, who used a downsized version of the Providence-class Dreadnought as his flagship. The ship included technology from the Separatist dreadnought Lucid Voice, which QFD had built at Pammant. Though the latter ship had been dismantled four years earlier at the Bilbringi shipyards, the Empire acted cautiously and contacted both Free Dac Volunteers Engineering Corps and Pammant Docks to determine if they had overseen the dreadnought's reconstruction.

Locations

Pammant was the site of several shipbuilding factories and at least one large dry dock. These factories constructed various starships that were exported off-planet for organizations such as the Trade Federation and the Separatist Alliance.

Behind the scenes

Pammant was first mentioned in current Star Wars canon within Tarkin, a 2014 novel by James Luceno. It was originally introduced in the Star Wars Legends continuity through Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith Incredible Cross-Sections, a 2005 reference book by Curtis Saxton. Pammant later made its first full Legends appearance in the "Card Commander" minigame, which was part of the 2010 video game Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures by Sony Online Entertainment.
