Parwan

Parwans were a species of sentient beings who were native to the planet Parwa. Obratuk Glii, a Parwan Jedi Master, was a highly regarded diplomat within the Jedi Order during the High Republic Era. In the time of the Clone Wars, the Parwan named Derrown had a reputation as one of the most skilled bounty hunters located in the galaxy.

Biology and appearance

The Parwans were a species possessing sentient thought, recognized by their four elongated, tentacle-like appendages on their lower body, coupled with two arms ending in three-fingered hands. A distinctive mushroom-shaped head supported three eyes. Their unique biology allowed them to "float" by inflating themselves with gas, and they could also generate electrical fields. Depending on their specific blood type, they could safely inject themselves with electrolytic serum. Furthermore, they were physically structured in a way that allowed them to speak Galactic Basic Standard.

The Parwans had the potential to live for exceptionally long periods; some individuals were recorded as living beyond a thousand years. Some Parwans were known to enter periods of hibernation tied to the multi-century long seasons on their homeworld, Parwa, even when they were traveling off-planet. It was also observed that some Parwans demonstrated the potential to be Force-sensitive.

Society and culture

Parwans had their own language, and certain members of the species, like Derrown, chose to use it over Basic.

Parwans in the galaxy

Doctor Gubacher served the Republic during the Clone Wars.

During the High Republic Era, the Parwan Jedi Master known as Obratuk Glii was highly esteemed as a diplomat. His diplomatic skills led to his selection to spearhead a clandestine mission aimed at negotiating with the Hutt Clan. Unfortunately, Obratuk succumbed to a seasonal hibernation cycle prior to reaching Nal Hutta, which forced his Padawan, Farzala Tarabal, to take the lead in the negotiations. Glii eventually awoke, using his many lightsabers to overcome the thugs under the employ of Jabba Desilijic Tiure. Following the destruction of Starlight Beacon, Glii was captured by Marchion Ro, the leader of the Nihil, and was made privy to Ro's comprehensive plan for the galaxy. After hearing this, Ro executed Glii by releasing a nameless creature, which reduced him to dust.

During the Clone Wars, the Parwan bounty hunter named Derrown, also known as "the Exterminator", was actively working. Derrown's reputation was such that he received an invitation to participate in a tournament held on Serenno, where Count Dooku, the leader of the Separatist faction, planned to identify and select a group of skilled hunters to abduct Palpatine, the Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic. Derrown was among the survivors, leading him to participate in the attempted kidnapping on Naboo, which was thwarted by Obi-Wan Kenobi, a Jedi Master who had infiltrated the group. Derrown managed to avoid capture by the Republic forces.

At the same time, Doctor Gubacher, an expert in cyborg technology and droids, directly served the Republic, providing astromech droids recruited into D-Squad with enhancements for their mission to steal a Separatist encryption module. He also contributed to the Strategic Advisory Cell, collaborating with other members to complete a secret project that would eventually evolve into the DS-1 Death Star Mobile Battle Station.

Behind the scenes

The piece of concept art the Parwan species was based off from Ron Cobb.

The Parwan species made its initial appearance in "The Box," the seventeenth episode of the canon animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars' fourth season, which was originally broadcast on February 3, 2012. The design of the species was inspired by a previously unused alien concept created by Ron Cobb for the cantina scene in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, which also served as the basis for the Revwien species.
