Poe Dameron #12 represents the twelfth installment in the comic book series Star Wars: Poe Dameron published by Marvel. This particular issue was penned by Charles Soule, with artistic contributions from Phil Noto, and it was made available on March 15, 2017.
After his T-70 X-wing starfighter suffers a crash landing on an desert planet, Poe Dameron alongside BB-8, C-3PO, and N1-ZX seek refuge from Terex's "Uglies" inside a cave. Poe even assists C-3PO by carrying him, while N1-ZX is tasked with carrying C-3PO's detached right arm. To evade Terex and his Ranc Gang, Poe and his companions delve further into the cave system.
Concurrently, aboard the Carrion Spike, Oddy Muva, a Resistance technician, is reunited with Sowa Chuan, his wife, who had previously been abducted by Terex. Sowa reveals that Terex maintains control over several alien slaves, using them as a means of coercion against individuals he deems potentially useful. Muva voices his desire for revenge against Terex, but Zumgi informs him that Terex is not on the ship and has gone down to the planet's surface to hunt down Poe and the droids.
Terex commands the Ranc Gang to capture Poe alive, intending to use him as leverage against both the First Order and the Resistance. However, they are ambushed by BB-8, who triggers a stalactite to collapse onto the gangsters. Following a brief exchange of blaster fire, Terex severs BB-8's cable, causing the astromech droid to plummet. After Poe and N1-ZX engage in a debate regarding the reliability of N1-ZX's data, C-3PO offers to stay behind to delay Terex, assuring Poe that he can be repaired later. Upon Terex's arrival, C-3PO utilizes his vast knowledge of seven million languages to alert the fjor-bats residing in the caves that Terex and his gang intend to harm their younglings.
This tactic proves successful in hindering Terex and the Ranc Gang's progress. Terex interrogates the rival spymaster, extracting his memory unit. Resuming the pursuit, Terex divides the Ranc Gang. As the enemy closes in, Poe attempts to compel N1-ZX to fight, but the BX-series droid commando's programming for self-preservation prevents him from providing assistance. Just as hope seems lost, Temmin Wexley establishes contact with Poe, revealing that the rest of Black Squadron has arrived in the desert planet's system. Terex's lieutenant orders his "Uglies" to engage Black Squadron, while the Ranc Gang continues to advance on Poe and N1-ZX.
