Saile Minnau

Saile Minnau was a male human who fought as a guard for the Resistance fleet during the war against the First Order. Following the Battle of D'Qar in 34 ABY, the fleet suffered a destructive defeat, leading the surviving members to seek refuge on the planet Crait for a final stand. After the Resistance fighters were compelled to fall back to the Rebel base they had taken over, Minnau was present and witnessed the Jedi Master Luke Skywalker's departure to confront the First Order by himself. Subsequently, the Resistance survivors managed to escape on the Millennium Falcon.

Biography

During the war against the First Order, Saile Minnau, a male human, functioned as a guard within the Resistance's fleet. In 34 ABY, the fleet left the Resistance base located on the planet D'Qar. However, ships belonging to the First Order Navy chased after them, systematically destroying their vessels until only the MC85 Star Cruiser Raddus remained as a capital ship. The occupants of the Raddus then used U-55 orbital loadlifters to evacuate to the planet Crait, where they took control of an old Rebel outpost and braced themselves for a last stand.

Minnau joined the Resistance forces in the base, where they engaged in combat against the First Order from the trenches and with V-4X-D ski speeders. They were eventually forced to retreat into the base after the First Order deployed its superlaser siege cannon. As their adversaries advanced, the Resistance realized that no reinforcements were coming to their aid. However, just as all hope seemed lost, Jedi Master Luke Skywalker made an appearance within the base.

As Skywalker proceeded out of the base to face the First Order, Minnau, along with fellow Resistance members Salaka Kuchimba and Koo Millham, stood up from behind a barricade, staring in bewilderment at the Jedi. Skywalker, who was actually projecting himself through the Force from the planet Ahch-To, then confronted the First Order forces and their Supreme Leader, Kylo Ren, alone, thereby creating time for the remaining Resistance members to escape. After following vulptexs through a concealed tunnel out of the base, the surviving Resistance members were rescued by the YT-1300 light freighter known as the Millennium Falcon, which then departed from Crait. Minnau shared a last name with Teckla Minnau, a handmaiden hailing from the planet Naboo.

Behind the scenes

Saile Minnau made an appearance in the 2017 sequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi. Nathan Hamill portrayed the character in a cameo, appearing alongside his siblings, Griffin Hamill and Chelsea Hamill, who played Kuchimba and Millham, respectively. The trio are depicted staring at the return of Luke Skywalker, portrayed by their father, Mark Hamill.

The film did not identify Nathan Hamill's character by name. However, he was identified in Star Wars: The Last Jedi: The Visual Dictionary, a reference book authored by Pablo Hidalgo and released in conjunction with the film. Hamill had previously played a character in the 1999 prequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, whom he named Rehtul Minnau. This name was later adopted in official sources, although not explicitly connected to Hamill's character in the film. Hamill has expressed his belief that Rehtul is Saile's grandfather, given their shared surname.
