Skirmish aboard a Republic medical station

During the era of the Galactic Civil War, a brief battle unfolded on a long-abandoned Haven-class medical station of the Galactic Republic. The Lothal rebel cell, also known as the Spectres, clashed with two Imperial Inquisitors. After a drawn-out fight, the Spectres successfully escaped. They then alerted their fellow rebels to the fact that the Empire possessed a larger number of Inquisitors than they had previously thought.

Prelude

Darth Vader discovered that his former Jedi Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, was still alive. Following this, the Spectres barely avoided an Imperial trap. Consequently, Darth Sidious advised his Sith apprentice to dispatch another Inquisitor to pursue the rebels. The Spectres had believed the Grand Inquisitor was the only one, but the Empire had others. Several Inquisitors, including the Fifth Brother and the Seventh Sister, initiated a search across the galaxy for the Jedi Kanan Jarrus and his apprentice Ezra Bridger.

With assistance from Captain Rex, the Phoenix Cell obtained a list of disused Republic bases and military facilities located throughout the Outer Rim Territories and Mandalore. Hera Syndulla, the leader of the Spectres, dispatched Sabine Wren, Garazeb Orrelios, and Chopper to salvage supplies from a derelict Republic Haven-class medical station. Ezra, looking for a change from his Jedi training, decided to accompany them.

Mission to the medical station

The trap

The four Spectres journeyed to the medical station aboard the Phantom, their auxiliary vessel. They successfully docked at the abandoned station using Rex's military access codes. Astromech droid Chopper activated the station's power to facilitate their salvage efforts. This activation was detected by the Fifth Brother, who commanded a nearby Imperial Star Destroyer. He then went to the station to investigate. While Chopper remained in the command center repairing files, the other rebels began exploring the station.

Unbeknownst to the rebels, the Seventh Sister was watching them via an ID9 seeker droid, setting a trap. The seeker droid successfully lured Chopper into a trap and shocked him. Despite being disabled, Chopper managed to send a distress signal to the other three rebels. Ezra and Sabine attempted to reach him by climbing through a ventilation shaft, but Zeb became lodged in the shaft. Upon reaching the upper level, the two rebels encountered the Seventh Sister and one of her seeker droids. The Inquisitor quickly defeated the two rebels, forcing them to retreat.

While fleeing down a corridor, Ezra and Sabine ran into the Fifth Brother. They managed to partially close a door. Sabine escaped, but Ezra stayed behind to fully close the door, saving his friend. He was then captured by the two Inquisitors and the seeker droids. The Fifth Brother tried to kill Ezra, but the Seventh Sister stopped him, noting that Ezra could lead them to the other rebels. While she interrogated Ezra, the Fifth Brother was assigned to hunt down Sabine.

Escaping the Inquisitors

Sabine later located Zeb and freed him from the ventilation shaft. Zeb suggested contacting Kanan, but Sabine advised against it, fearing it would expose the rebel fleet to the Empire. While Ezra resisted the Seventh Sister, who was interested in Ahsoka Tano, Sabine and Zeb tried to stop the Fifth Brother. They lured him into a room and placed several thermal detonators on the floor. Sabine tried to activate the detonators, but they failed to detonate.

Using the Force, the Fifth Brother hurled the thermal detonators at the two rebels. Sabine and Zeb both survived the explosion, but Sabine was knocked unconscious. Zeb escaped, but the Fifth Brother captured Sabine, bringing her back to join the Seventh Sister and Ezra. Zeb outsmarted and destroyed the seeker droids. After finding the medical supplies, Zeb encountered Chopper. Together, they returned to the Phantom, but Zeb refused to leave his fellow rebels behind. Although he could not match the Inquisitors' Force abilities, he devised a plan to rescue Ezra and Sabine.

Zeb, pretending to be "Commander Meiloorun," contacted Ezra and Sabine, who had been resisting the Inquisitors' demands to contact the rebel fleet. They relented only when the Fifth Brother threatened Sabine. Claiming they needed assistance, Ezra told Zeb they would meet in the hangar bay. Before ending the communication, Zeb told the two rebels to "keep their chins up," a coded message to look above. The Inquisitors, hoping to capture Ahsoka and Kanan Jarrus, led their captives to Bay Six.

Upon arriving, they saw Zeb and Chopper in the Phantom, which was hanging upside down from the ceiling. When the Inquisitors spotted the Phantom, Zeb dropped the ship and opened the rear hatch, allowing Ezra and Sabine to board. The rebels then attempted to escape into space, but the two Inquisitors used their Force powers to seize the ship. With great effort, Zeb managed to break the ship free and escape through the closing blast door.

Aftermath

The medical supplies recovered by the Spectres from the Republic medical station improved the Phoenix Squadron's limited resources. Despite their escape, the rebels were alarmed by the discovery of additional Inquisitors. The Spectres continued to encounter the Inquisitors on several occasions, including a rescue mission on Takobo, the Imperial attack on Garel, a duel on Oosalon, and a final battle on Malachor.

Behind the scenes

The engagement aboard the Republic medical station was first featured in the Star Wars Rebels episode "Always Two There Are," which premiered on Disney XD on October 28, 2015. The episode also introduced a new antagonist, the Inquisitor known as the Seventh Sister, voiced by Sarah Michelle Gellar, the spouse of Freddie Prinze Jr. (the voice actor for Kanan Jarrus).
