Arges frog

The arges frog, also known as Sorgan frogs, represented a species of single-eyed frogs that took their designation from the forest planet of Sorgan, although they could be encountered across various other planets. The Mandalorian foundling, Grogu, displayed a distinct preference for these amphibians, frequently attempting to hunt them during his journeys throughout the galaxy. Circa 9 ABY, the child ingested a Sorgan frog while on an Arvala-7 moisture farm, and later, during a visit to a village located on the planet from which the animal derived its name, he tried to repeat the act with another frog. However, Grogu stopped when the girl Winta and other children displayed their revulsion, which allowed the frog to flee into a nearby water container.

Around the same year on Tatooine, several Sorgan frogs were subjected to being boiled alive and then prepared as a meal intended for Daimyo Bib Fortuna within his palace by an EV-series sous-chef. Nevertheless, the amphibians managed to escape when the former bounty hunter Boba Fett pursued an LEP-series ratcatcher through the palace's kitchen area. At a later time, Grogu departed from his guardian, Din Djarin, to study the ways of the Force under the tutelage of Luke Skywalker. While in a meditative state with his Jedi Master on Ossus, Grogu employed his Force powers to extract a Sorgan frog from a nearby pond. In an effort to demonstrate to his Padawan the true potential of these powers, Skywalker effortlessly levitated numerous frogs from the pond before carefully returning them to their habitat.

Behind the scenes

The Sorgan frog's first appearance

The initial appearance of Sorgan frogs was in "Chapter 2: The Child," which is an episode from the first season of The Mandalorian, a television series created by Jon Favreau. Rick Famuyiwa directed the episode, which was broadcast on Disney+ on November 15, 2019. Later, on December 23 of that year, the creatures were officially identified as Sorgan frogs in an article on StarWars.com that detailed merchandise related to the show. The article revealed that a frog figurine would be included as an accessory for Grogu, who was then referred to as "the Child," within the Star Wars: The Black Series toy collection.
