Plot summary

Departing the Freemaker Garage

Rowan and Naare look at a holo map

At Freemaker Garage, situated in the Wheel, Rowan receives instruction from Naare on the technique of levitating a brick using the Force. He immediately employs the Force to seize her lightsaber, engaging in playful actions until she reclaims it, urging him to concentrate. She presents him with a holo map to elaborate further on their objective, and Rowan believes he detects a Kyber crystal located within the Belgaroth asteroid field. Kordi observes them as they are leaving, informing Naare that she will not allow her younger brother to be taken away.

While Zander is occupied with work in the garage, Naare attempts to persuade Kordi that Rowan is intertwined with the destiny of the galaxy. Rowan also tries to reason with Naare. Subsequently, Naare attempts to execute a mind trick on Kordi, which proves ineffective due to Kordi's lack of "weak-mindedness." A dispute arises between the two women. Amidst the adults' argument, Rowan encounters Roger, who requests him to sample a broth he has recently prepared. Rowan finds it distasteful and then convinces Roger that they must depart due to a reactor leak. As Naare reminds Kordi to consider the actions of the Jedi towards the galaxy, Rowan and Roger commandeer one of Zander's Z-wings and venture into space.

Roger expresses regret for leaving Rowan's siblings behind, but emphasizes that as the last of the battle droids, his preservation is paramount. Rowan then reveals that the reactor leak was fabricated before piloting the Z-wing into hyperspace. Back at the Wheel, Kordi angrily tells Naare to not use her Force powers on her again. Incensed, Naare shatters a container box, prompting Zander to cease his repairs. When Zander inquires about what Rowan broke, Kordi clarifies that Naare had a minor outburst. Naare offers an apology for her "unJedi"-like conduct and then discovers Rowan's absence. Zander subsequently realizes that Rowan has absconded with one of his Z-wings. Kordi also discovers that Roger is missing.

Zander and Kordi journey to the Belgaroth asteroid field aboard the StarScavenger, accompanied by Naare in the Eclipse Fighter. While Kordi loudly proclaims over the intercom that a "crackpot" has filled her younger brother's head with nonsense, Naare reminds her that her comlink is active. The two ships then initiate a jump to hyperspace. Concurrently, Rowan and Roger navigate their Z-wing through the asteroid field. Roger experiences a panic attack and accuses Rowan of harboring animosity towards him. Rowan instructs him to calm down before abruptly entering a trance. He perceives that the Kyber Saber crystal is beckoning to him.

Locating the Kyber crystal

Rowan and Roger thank a mining droid

Rowan pilots the Z-wing into a Hutt mining operation situated on an asteroid. Roger informs him that they are not alone and suggests they leave. Rowan lands the Z-wing within the mine and instructs a hesitant Roger to follow him. Rowan outlines his plan to enter the mine, steal the crystal, and then escape into hyperspace. Rowan enters a trance and skillfully navigates through a sizable crushing machine, with Roger trailing behind. In his trance, Rowan allows a large mining droid to carry him, with Roger hitching a ride on the droid and imploring the boy to regain consciousness.

Rowan then proceeds onto a conveyor belt that leads to a vat of lava. Rowan locates the crystal secured within a rock above the vat. Upon discovering the crystal, he awakens and attempts to maintain his grip on the crystal and rock. Rowan loses his grip but is rescued from a fiery demise by a mining droid befriended by Roger. The mining droid then transports them back to the entrance of the mining facility, with Roger expressing gratitude to the droid DLC-13 for the ride. As they enter the tunnel, Rowan informs Roger that he has located the second Kyber Saber crystal. Before they can return to their ship, they encounter a pair of Iktotchi bounty hunters, Baash and Raam.

In the meantime, Zander and Kordi utilize the StarScavenger's laser cannons to forcefully enter the Belgaroth asteroid field. Zander expresses his enjoyment of challenges until an asteroid causes damage to the ship's hull. Kordi reassures her older brother that they have a "logical" Jedi with them who will employ the Force to locate Rowan. Responding to Kordi's taunt, Naare replies that there are intricacies to how the Force operates. With Naare unable to sense Rowan, they opt to search for him using "old-fashioned" methods.

Bounty hunters for hire

Baash and Raam bring Rowan and R0-GR before Graballa

Back at the mining facility, Baash and Raam inquire about Rowan and Roger's activities. Baash asks Rowan if they are there to observe the mining droids detonating objects, while Raam adds that he enjoys witnessing explosions. The two then engage in an argument about butting horns and lock horns before reconciling. Baash and Raam then ask Rowan and Roger what they were doing again. By that time, Rowan has found an Ubese helmet and claims that he and his droid are bounty hunters. Rowan claims that he is 'Grunt Boar', the most dangerous Ugnaught bounty hunter in the galaxy and that Roger is "IG-89". Despite Roger's protests, Rowan takes the opportunity to flatter the two Iktotchi about "IG-89"'s abilities. Rowan and "IG-89" are preparing to depart to collect bounties when Baash and Raam persuade them to meet their boss. Roger expresses concern that events are spiraling out of control.

Baash and Raam escort Rowan and Roger to the Hutt crime lord Graballa's starship Rancor's Fist, which is situated within the asteroid field. Aboard the ship, Graballa communicates with his cousin Jabba via hologram. Graballa has been extracting ore in the midst of a desolate asteroid field on behalf of Jabba for the past two centuries. At 462 years of age, Graballa remains in his prime. He is weary of his occupation and suggests that it is time for him to pursue new challenges and horizons. With the Toydarian Yeppau presenting a poster, Graballa informs Jabba of his intention to establish a beachside resort and buffet. Graballa attempts to appeal to Jabba's fondness for buffets, but Jabba remains indifferent and dismisses his idea as a waste of time.

While Graballa voices his discontent, Baash and Raam, who constitute his "think tank," enter the room with Rowan and Roger. Baash informs Graballa that they have discovered new bounty hunters, but Graballa retorts that he already employs a bounty hunter, Dengar, who is feigning sleep. While Dengar may not be as skilled as Boba Fett, Graballa maintains that he is still a bounty hunter. Baash informs Graballa that Rowan is the galaxy's most dangerous Ugnaught, while Raam asserts that "IG-89" surpasses IG-88. He requests Baash to explain the mathematics to Graballa. Graballa reluctantly consents to offer Rowan and "IG-89" Dengar's position if they can demonstrate that they are tougher and faster than him.

Captives of Graballa

Graballa's pet Nexu Smiley

Roger requests a moment to confer with his associate, which Graballa grants. In private, Roger confronts Rowan regarding his plan and reminds the boy that they are not bounty hunters. Rowan responds that he independently located a Kyber Saber crystal and instructs the battle droid to trust him. Rowan returns to inform Graballa that they are "in" when Dengar awakens from his slumber and hurls an object at Rowan, causing him to fall to the ground. Dengar then seizes "IG-89" by the legs and attempts to strike Rowan with him. Rowan manages to evade Dengar's blow, but the bounty hunter throws Roger against a pot.

Dengar then challenges Rowan. Roger grabs Rowan by his legs and uses the boy's Ugnaught helmet to hit Dengar but misses. Dengar then lifts a large box and uses it to knock Rowan and Roger to the ground. Rowan hits a pillar and loses his helmet and the second kyber crystal in the process. The crystal rolls to the bottom of Graballa's throne room and Graballa takes an interest in the object. Yeppau fetches the kyber crystal and agrees with his master that it is something valuable. Rowan and Roger, who's head has been turned on the wrong side, can only watch as Graballa inspects the kyber crystal.

Meanwhile, the StarScavenger and the Eclipse Fighter employ their laser cannons to blast through the asteroid field. Despite their efforts, Zander remains dissatisfied that they have not yet discovered any trace of Rowan. At that juncture, Zander and Kordi spot a fragment of Rowan's Z-wing. The two ships then pursue Rowan's trail. Back at the Rancor's Fist, Graballa questions Rowan about the Kyber Saber crystal. Rowan attempts to minimize the crystal's worth, claiming that it is a worthless pebble. However, Graballa points out that Rowan risked all the trouble to travel to the Belgaroth asteroid field and tells him he was not born yesterday.

Despite his head being the wrong way, Roger advises Rowan to allow him to handle the situation. He then approaches Graballa and informs the Hutt that the Emperor is seeking the Kyber Saber crystals. At that moment, Graballa realizes that there are additional crystals and that they possess value. Disregarding the Emperor, Graballa demands that Rowan and Roger disclose how to acquire more Kyber Saber crystals. Rowan asserts that he is unaware and that he and Roger were fortunate to discover this one. When they refuse to cooperate, Graballa decides to introduce them to Smiley. Rowan and Roger mistake the Toydarian Yeppau for Smiley until Graballa reveals that it is a nexu confined within a chamber beneath his throne.

Kordi's salesmanship

Kordi tries to sell a Z-wing to Graballa

With the two remaining uncooperative, Graballa resolves to lower Rowan and Roger upside down into Smiley's chamber. Rowan acknowledges to Roger that he erred and acted independently. Meanwhile, Zander, Kordi, and Naare land their ships within the Hutt mining facility. They discover Rowan's damaged Z-wing, which he deems an "Ugly" due to the damage sustained from the asteroid field. When Kordi inquires about Rowan's whereabouts, Naare directs her attention to Graballa's floating starship above the asteroid. Back at the Rancor's Fist, Graballa offers Rowan and Roger the opportunity to disclose how he can obtain more Kyber Saber crystals and threatens to feed them to Smiley for lunch if they refuse to comply. When Roger points out that he is a droid, Baash responds that Graballa consumes anything and presents him with a stormtrooper helmet retrieved from Smiley's litter box.

Roger pleads for mercy as he and Rowan are lowered into Smiley's pit. Before Graballa can dispose of his prisoners, he is visited by Kordi and Zander, who present themselves as salesmen attempting to sell a Z-wing. Kordi flatters Graballa by informing him that the ship is equipped with laser cannons constructed from repurposed components. Zander demonstrates the cannon's firepower by firing a bolt that causes a pillar to collapse onto Yeppau. While Graballa is captivated by the cannon, Naare stealthily enters the room. Kordi cautions him that the cannon's value diminishes after a single shot. She then questions why he would pay inflated dealer prices and proceeds to lead Graballa away from the throne towards the ship.

Meanwhile, Naare encounters Baash and Raam but employs a mind trick to persuade them to take a nap, remarking that minds do not come weaker than that. She then utilizes the Force to nudge Rowan and Roger away from the pit's edge before severing their chains with her lightsaber. While Zander endeavors to repair the ship, Kordi attempts to persuade Graballa to purchase the Z-wing for a mere twenty credits per month. However, Graballa realizes that Kordi is attempting to deceive him and deduces that it was a clever distraction while her friend freed the kid. Naare, Rowan, and Roger promptly realize that they have been discovered. The Freemakers and Naare then flee in the Z-wing, with Roger clinging to the ship's fin.

Rediscovering the Kyber crystal

The Freemakers flee into the Belgaroth asteroid field

The escaping Z-wing crashes through the space station's walls, causing the crystal to float out into space. Only Graballa's huge mass saves everyone from being exposed to zero gravity space. Graballa dispatches Dengar and his henchmen to pursue them in a swarm of starfighters. During the escape, the Z-wing's shield couplings are damaged, and Kordi struggles to repair them. The Freemakers' ship narrowly avoids a large asteroid. Naare then employs the Force to clear a path through the asteroid field and hurl asteroids at Graballa's starfighters, destroying many of them. Dengar's starfighter is hit but narrowly avoids destruction. Naare's actions win over Kordi, who was previously suspicious of the Force while Zander admits feelings for the "Jedi."

After returning to the StarScavenger, Rowan apologizes to his siblings for causing them trouble. While Zander is annoyed with his little brother for getting them in trouble, Kordi defends Rowan and asserts it "was worth all that trouble to get him back." Still, she warns him not to run off again. Rowan acknowledges that the person he should apologize to is Master Naare, who is following their ship in the Eclipse Fighter. Overhearing the conversation, Naare is enraged and is about to destroy the Freemakers' ship when Rowan suddenly senses that the kyber saber crystal is at front of them.

Assuming control of the ship, Rowan guides his siblings and Naare to the kyber crystal. Still consumed by rage, Naare fires on the Star Scavenger, but her laser bolts deflect off. A jubilant Rowan celebrates his triumph, while Naare declares that all is forgiven. Meanwhile, back at the Rancors's Fist, Graballa confers with the bounty hunters and remarks that the kyber saber crystals are so valuable that they would make them richer than his cousin. He then orders Dengar and his henchmen to locate "the boy" and presents a holographic image of Rowan.
