Plot summary

At Fort Anaxes, Jedi Masters Mace Windu and Obi-Wan Kenobi provide a briefing to Anakin Skywalker and Rex concerning their strategy to reclaim Anaxes from the Separatists. Echo, recently rescued, volunteers to contribute to the war effort, but Rex advises caution, suggesting he isn't quite ready. Windu, however, shows interest in hearing Echo's proposal. Echo suggests infiltrating the Separatist Admiral Trench's dreadnought positioned above Anaxes. The plan involves feeding the Separatist systems deceptive strategies to ensure a Republic victory on Anaxes. Windu and Kenobi approve the plan.

Skywalker, Rex, Echo, and the Bad Batch embark on their mission using the Marauder. During their flight to the Separatist fleet, Wrecker expresses his displeasure about another "stealth mission." The clones successfully gain permission to dock with the Separatist dreadnought by having Echo transmit a signal that disguises their ship as the Separatist shuttle TC-59. Simultaneously on Anaxes, Republic forces, under the command of Masters Windu and Kenobi, launch an attack on the main Separatist assembly plant using LAAT gunships and BTL-B Y-wing starfighter/bombers. ARC-170 fighters divert the Vulture Droids, giving the Republic forces time for the Y-wings to commence bombing the plant. Upon entering the assembly plant, Windu offers the B1-series battle droids the opportunity to surrender and undergo reprogramming. However, the droids refuse and engage Windu and his troops. Meanwhile, the clones employ grappling hooks to descend into the factory. A super tactical droid informs Admiral Trench that the assembly plant is under attack. Trench responds with a smile, stating that he intends to exploit the Republic's arrogance and desperation to his advantage.

Echo, accompanied by Tech and Anakin, infiltrates the dreadnought's interface unit and initiates their plan. Admiral Trench, unaware of the recent events on Skako Minor, instructs his tactical droid to contact Skako Minor for Echo's algorithm. Tech successfully conceals Echo's transmission, making it appear as though it originated from Skako Minor, thus deceiving Trench. Echo, impersonating the algorithm, advises the Admiral to mobilize all troops to the assembly plant, asserting that the Republic would send all their reinforcements there, trusting in the Jedi. The Separatist strategy was to crush all Republic forces with a single blow. Admiral Trench, pleased, dispatches additional reinforcements to the assembly plant. Tech intercepts Trench's transmission and informs his comrades. Hunter initially interprets this as a negative sign until Echo clarifies that his plan involves sending feedback pulses to disable all Separatist droids. Anakin then relays Echo's plan to Windu and Kenobi, who attribute it to Skywalker.

Confident in their imminent victory, Trench deploys all his forces to the assembly plant. Echo then initiates the pulse, disabling all the Separatist droids. Trench is taken aback by the algorithm's failure. The tactical droid then informs him that the pulse originated on his dreadnought. Realizing that intruders are aboard his ship, Trench sends battle droids to confront them. Trench then pledges to inflict complete annihilation on his Republic adversaries. Before the clones can depart, Echo receives a transmission indicating that Trench intends to activate a bomb beneath the assembly plant. Echo decides to thwart Trench's plot, while Skywalker proceeds through the ship to confront the Admiral directly.

Back on Anaxes, Windu and Kenobi are informed by the clones that Trench has planted a bomb in the plant's fusion generator, requiring their assistance to disarm it. Kenobi orders the evacuation of all Republic forces from the plant, while Windu descends into the fusion generator to locate the bomb, only to discover it is protected by a ray shield. As Echo transmits the sequence to deactivate the bomb, Windu uses the Force to manipulate the dials. Their efforts are interrupted when Trench traces the source of the illegal pulse and jams its signal. This action electrocutes Echo, rendering him unconscious. The clones are then attacked by several B2-series super battle droids, and Windu orders them to retreat.

Meanwhile, Admiral Trench orders an assault on Anaxes and dispatches additional battle droids to confront the clone infiltrators. He attempts to leave the command bridge but is intercepted by Anakin, who uses his lightsaber to defeat his tactical droid and several BX-series droid commandos. Anakin demands that Trench disclose the final number in the sequence to disarm the bomb, but the Admiral merely taunts him. In response, Skywalker severs his left set of arms and repeats his demand. Trench complies, and Anakin relays the final number to Windu, who is then able to disarm the bomb. Trench attacks Skywalker with his right set of arms, but the Jedi defeats him with his lightsaber. Before departing the command bridge, Anakin takes the remote detonator as a favor for Wrecker, who enjoys causing explosions.

Elsewhere on the dreadnought, the clones engage in combat against numerous battle droids. Wrecker charges at the droids, tearing several apart. Simultaneously, Crosshair plants detonators on the ship's corridor and a battle droid. Having completed their mission, the clones, along with Skywalker, escape on the Marauder. After their departure, Wrecker uses the remote detonator to detonate Trench's dreadnought and several nearby warships.

Echo, now a member of The Bad Batch, and his new squad-mates salute Rex.

In the aftermath of the battle, Windu, Kenobi, and Skywalker commend the bravery and skill of Echo, Rex, and the Bad Batch. As the Jedi depart, Obi-Wan mentions that the clones will soon receive medals. However, the Bad Batch has no intention of attending the ceremony, stating that they are not fighting in the war for medals. Hunter asks Echo if he is certain that medals are his thing, and adds that if he feels he doesn't belong anywhere else, he should seek them out. Rex tells Echo that he considers the Bad Batch to be among the finest troopers he has fought alongside, and that he is fine with him joining them if he wishes. When Echo decides to join the Bad Batch, Rex stops to bid his friend farewell, and Echo and the Bad Batch all salute.

Development

An entire version of this episode was broadcast as a component of The Clone Wars revival on Disney+.

Continuity

The astromech droid that looks like R2-D2

Discrepancies exist between the story reel and the finished episode. One such difference is that Gold Leader no longer wears the flight helmet and suit typical of clone pilots in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. The explanation that Trench is unaware of Echo's rescue because Wat Tambor fears him has been omitted. The medal ceremony at the end has been replaced with a different scene. One of the astromech droids featured in this scene bore a resemblance to R2-D2.
