The Versio family originated from Vardos, a planet within the Core Worlds known for its unwavering allegiance to the Galactic Empire; they were a family of humans. During the Imperial Era, Garrick Versio attained the rank of admiral within the Imperial Security Bureau. His wife, Zeehay Versio, worked as an artist, creating Imperial propaganda posters. Their reproduction resulted in a daughter, Iden Versio; however, their marriage ended in divorce five years after Iden's birth. Following the example set by her parents, Iden served the Empire as the commander of Inferno Squad, an Imperial Special Forces commando unit, by the time of the Galactic Civil War. However, the family experienced further division when Iden defected to the New Republic, while her father remained a staunch supporter of the Empire. Despite fighting on opposing sides in the final battle of the war, Iden made an attempt to save Garrick. However, upon realizing that the battle, and consequently the Empire he served, was lost, the admiral insisted on perishing with his Star Destroyer. Post-war, Iden married her squadmate, Del Meeko, and they had a daughter named Zay Versio. Roughly three decades later, both Meeko and Iden were killed during the rise of the First Order, leaving Zay as the sole surviving member of the Versio family. Having become a member of the Resistance, Zay journeyed to the Outer Rim Territories to gather allies to oppose the First Order's campaign to conquer the galaxy.
