Yotts Oren was a member of the Kadas'sa'Nikto species, serving within the criminal organization led by the Hutt crime boss Jabba Desilijic Tiure on the desert planet of Tatooine. During the events of 4 ABY, Oren journeyed aboard a Bantha-II cargo skiff to the dreaded Great Pit of Carkoon, with the intention of witnessing the demise of three of Jabba's captives: the Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker, along with smugglers Han Solo and Chewbacca.
Arriving at their destination, the transport skiff bearing the prisoners halted directly above the pit, where the prisoners were intended to become food for a sarlacc creature. Skywalker was chosen as the first to be thrown in, but after receiving his lightsaber, he launched an assault on his guards. Once all the guards on the prisoners' skiff were defeated, Oren's skiff moved closer so the guards on board could attempt to subdue Skywalker. However, the Jedi instead boarded their skiff and overcame Oren and the other guards, resulting in the Kadas'sa'Nikto falling into the jaws of the sarlacc.
As a Kadas'sa'Nikto, Yotts Oren functioned as a guard for the Hutt crime syndicate leader Jabba Desilijic Tiure, serving as a member of his criminal enterprise within Jabba's Palace situated on the world of Tatooine. In the year 4 ABY, Jabba gave the order to transport three of his inmates—the Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker and the smugglers Han Solo and Chewbacca—via skiff to the infamous Great Pit of Carkoon, where they would be consumed by the resident sarlacc. Oren was part of a group of guards aboard a second Bantha-II cargo skiff, piloted by the Skrilling Pote Snitkin, that accompanied the vehicle transporting the prisoners. Upon reaching the pit, the skiff with the prisoners hovered over the sarlacc, while Oren's skiff began circling above the arid landscape.

Jabba, who had arrived at the pit on his sail barge, the Khetanna, to observe the fatalities, offered the prisoners a final opportunity to plead for their lives. When they declined, Jabba commanded that the first prisoner, Skywalker, be pushed into the waiting gullet of the sarlacc. However, Skywalker managed to jump back onto the skiff and, wielding a lightsaber provided by his astromech R2-D2, attacked the guards on the prisoners' skiff. As Skywalker eliminated the last of the guards on his skiff, Snitkin maneuvered his skiff closer, allowing Oren and the others to fire upon Skywalker. The Nikto leaned over the skiff's railing and fired a blaster at Skywalker, after which the Jedi boarded the second skiff and engaged the guards in combat.
Once Skywalker had boarded the skiff, Oren initially retreated toward Snitkin at the rear. After Skywalker knocked Brock Starsher and another guard overboard, the Nikto charged forward past their comrades to attack. The Jedi then struck Oren's face, causing them to fall backward over the railing and directly into the jaws of the sarlacc. Skywalker and his allies then defeated the remaining guards and killed Jabba before destroying the sail barge and escaping.
While on the skiff, Oren was dressed in a black hooded garment and shoulder armor, along with two black ammunition belts crossing over a gray top and gray pants. They also wore black footwear, gray wristbands, and carried a DL-18 blaster.

Yotts Oren made their debut in the 1983 original Star Wars trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. The mask used for the character's head was measured to be thirty-six centimeters by fifty-three centimeters by thirty-three centimeters. The scream heard as Oren fell into the sarlacc pit is the Wilhelm scream, a stock sound effect used for numerous other characters in Return of the Jedi and other Star Wars films. The scenes on Oren's skiff were shot in the Yuma desert located in Arizona between April 12 and April 24, 1982. The skiffs were then transported to Industrial Light & Magic in California for blue screen shots filmed between May 10 and 14.
Within the current Star Wars continuity, Oren's identity was first established in "The Battle of Hoth and the Second Death Star," an edition of the Star Wars Encyclopedia series released by De Agostini on December 11, 2020. The character's name was originally "Yotts Orren" in the Star Wars Legends timeline, appearing on a card in the 2001 Tatooine Limited set of the Star Wars Customizable Card Game; however, the card mistakenly depicted the Kadas'sa'Nikto Klaatu. The hooded Nikto was later identified as Yotts Orren in the "Rogues Gallery" section of Star Wars Insider 143 on July 23, 2013. Despite this, a card added to the Star Wars: Card Trader app in 2017 as part of the "Galactic Underworld: Live-Action" series incorrectly identified an image of Yotts Oren as Klaatu.
