Klaatu, a male Kadas'sa'Nikto, made his living as a gambler in the employ of Jabba the Hutt. His duties involved the maintenance of the crime lord's fleet of skiffs. He also found pleasure in witnessing Jabba's victims being fed to the rancor within Jabba's Palace.
His life came to an end on Tatooine aboard Jabba's sail barge, the Khetanna, during the failed execution attempt targeting Luke Skywalker and his comrades. He was killed in the ensuing chaos.
Klaatu, a male Kadas'sa'Nikto hailing from the planet Kintan, served as a bodyguard for the Hutt crime lord known as Jabba Desilijic Tiure. He resided within the criminal's palace located on the desert planet Tatooine. While at the palace, Klaatu dedicated his time to repairing skiffs and accumulating substantial gambling debts. During the youth of Luke Skywalker, a moisture farmer raised on Tatooine beginning in 19 BBY, Klaatu gained a reputation for his unsavory actions across the planet. In 4 ABY, on one morning, Klaatu was present when the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO arrived at the palace, bearing a message from Skywalker, now a Jedi Knight, intended for Jabba. Skywalker's message proposed a negotiation with the Hutt for the release of the smuggler Han Solo, and as a gesture of goodwill, the droids were offered as a gift. Jabba, after reviewing the message, made it clear that he had no intention of relinquishing Solo, who was encased in carbonite and displayed on the wall of the Hutt's throne room.
Later, Princess Leia Organa, a comrade of Skywalker, made her way to the palace with the intention of rescuing Solo. She presented herself to Jabba disguised as the bounty hunter Boushh. After surrendering the Wookiee Chewbacca to Jabba as a prisoner, Organa secretly returned to the throne room during the night to free the smuggler. However, the bounty hunter Boba Fett had informed the Hutt that Boushh was not who they appeared to be, and a trap was set for Organa. Klaatu, along with several other members of the court, concealed themselves behind curtains, awaiting the princess. After an hour, she entered the throne room, believing the court was asleep. As she freed Solo and removed her helmet, Jabba sprung the trap. The curtains were drawn back, revealing Klaatu and numerous other guards positioned on the stairway leading to the throne room's exit, blocking Organa and Solo's escape. Jabba then ordered the pair to be taken prisoner, with Solo being dragged to the dungeons while Organa was forced to approach the Hutt.
With his allies captured, Skywalker himself arrived at the palace early in the morning while Jabba and most of his court were still sleeping. After Skywalker used a mind trick on the crime lord's majordomo to awaken the Hutt, the Jedi demanded the release of Solo and the others. Klaatu stood with fellow guards Vizam and Nysad on the steps beside Jabba's throne as the Hutt rejected the demands, prompting Skywalker to threaten the Hutt with a blaster pistol. The crime lord swiftly dropped Skywalker and the unfortunate Gamorrean guard Jubnuk into the pit beneath the throne room, where they were attacked by Jabba's pet rancor, Pateesa. Klaatu moved quickly to the grating above the pit to observe the execution. However, after Pateesa devoured Jubnuk, Skywalker managed to kill the beast. Enraged, Jabba had Skywalker and his allies brought back to the throne room and sentenced the Jedi to death alongside Solo and Chewbacca. Klaatu then joined the crowd of courtiers that followed the prisoners as they were led from the throne room.
Klaatu then journeyed aboard Jabba's sail barge, the Khetanna, to the Great Pit of Carkoon, where the prisoners were intended to be fed to the sarlacc residing there. Upon reaching the pit, Klaatu positioned himself on the sail barge's top deck and looked down on the prisoners, who were brought above the pit on separate Bantha-II cargo skiffs, as they were given an opportunity to plead for mercy. After refusing to beg, Skywalker was pushed forward into the pit but then jumped back onto the skiff carrying the prisoners, armed with his lightsaber, which R2-D2 had launched to him from the barge. As Skywalker defeated the guards on the skiff with him, Klaatu rushed toward the rear of the deck as more of his colleagues emerged to begin firing at the Jedi.
Skywalker soon fought his way onto the deck of the barge, eliminating Vizam, Nysad, and several others, before Klaatu confronted him alongside a human guard. The Jedi disarmed the pair with a strike of his lightsaber, and both retreated through one of the hatches into the barge's interior. Organa, who had already strangled Jabba, then aimed the barge's deck cannon down at the vehicle itself and fired before escaping with Skywalker and her other allies. The blast from the cannon caused the sail barge to explode, and Klaatu was killed when he was pulverized in the blast.
Klaatu was a brutal individual responsible for the deaths of innocents, yet he ultimately revealed himself to be a coward when he fled from Skywalker on the sail barge. As a gambler, the Kadas'sa'Nikto eagerly anticipated executions at the palace and enjoyed watching those held in the pit beneath Jabba's throne room. He was skilled in repairing the skiffs he worked on. As a Kadas'sa'Nikto, Klaatu had green skin and black eyes.
John Simpkin played Klaatu. In the Galactic Underworld set of Star Wars: Card Trader's, an image of Yotts Oren was used as a stand-in for Klaatu.
