Albinism

Albinism, sometimes referred to as albino, was a genetic anomaly that resulted in the extremely pale white appearance of a creature's skin due to a lack of pigmentation. This mutation was observed within the sentient Trandoshan species, notably affecting Feresk Tssat, a New Republic pilot. Tssat, affectionately nicknamed Frisk by his comrades, faced social isolation from the more primitive members of his kind on Dosh, but later found acceptance among the pilots of the Republic's Vanguard Squadron.

Creatures lacking sentience were also vulnerable to this condition. An albino Eriadu veermok roamed the Carrion Plateau on the planet Eriadu several years prior to the Battle of Yavin. The veermok faced a perpetual struggle for survival because its condition compromised its ability to blend into the lush environment. Despite this challenge, the beast thrived, becoming the dominant predator of the plateau, before being killed by Ellian Zahra, an officer within the Galactic Empire who was dispatched by Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin to hunt it. During the Imperial Era on Kashyyyk, albinism was present in Wyyyschokk. These albino Wyyyschokk presented a danger to both stormtroopers and Cal Kestis. Furthermore, Norel Quo, a Koorivar serving as the primary aide to Supreme Chancellor Lina Soh during the Great Disaster of the High Republic, exhibited unpigmented skin.

Behind the scenes

Albinism made its debut in Star Wars canon within Star Wars: Squadrons, a 2020 video game centered around starfighter combat. The StarWars.com Databank explicitly identified Feresk Tssat, a non-player character featured in the game, as having albinism. Within the Star Wars Legends continuity, albino creatures initially appeared in "Children of the Force," a short story contained in the thirteenth issue of the comic book series titled Star Wars Tales.
