Albinism

Albinism, also referred to as being albino, was a condition resulting in a pale white appearance of a creature's skin due to a lack of pigmentation. This mutation was observed within the sentient Trandoshan species, notably in figures such as Feresk Tssat, a pilot for the New Republic. Tssat, nicknamed Frisk by his comrades, faced rejection from the more primitive members of his species on Dosh, but later found acceptance among the pilots of the Republic's Vanguard Squadron.

Albinism was not exclusive to sentient beings. An albino Eriadu veermok roamed the Carrion Plateau on the planet Eriadu some years prior to the Battle of Yavin. The veermok's survival was constantly challenged because its condition hindered its ability to blend into the lush vegetation. Despite this, it became the dominant predator of the plateau, before it was eventually killed by Ellian Zahra, an officer working for the Galactic Empire who was dispatched by Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin to eliminate it. During the Imperial Era on Kashyyyk, albinism was present in Wyyyschokk. These albino Wyyyschokk presented a danger to both stormtroopers and Cal Kestis. Norel Quo, a Koorivar who worked as the primary aide to Supreme Chancellor Lina Soh during the Great Disaster of the High Republic, also exhibited a lack of skin pigmentation.

Behind the scenes

The first appearance of albinism in Star Wars canon occurred in the 2020 starfighter combat video game Star Wars: Squadrons. The StarWars.com Databank entry for Feresk Tssat, a non-player character featured in the game, specifically identified his condition as albinism. In Star Wars Legends continuity, the short story "Children of the Force," found in the thirteenth issue of the comic book series Star Wars Tales, marked the first appearance of albino creatures.
