The Battle of Fondor occurred near the beginning of the Yuuzhan Vong War. To defend the planetary shipyards, the New Republic fleet, alongside assistance from the Hapes Consortium, and secretly from the Hutt Cartel, engaged the invading forces. This battle gained notoriety because, although the Yuuzhan Vong fleet was obliterated, Centerpoint Station's superlaser decimated numerous Hapan warships.
Following the defeats at Gyndine and Tynna, New Republic Intelligence gleaned from intercepted communications that the Yuuzhan Vong would likely target either Corellia or Bothawui next. The New Republic opted to reinforce Bothawui, seemingly leaving Corellia vulnerable to the Yuuzhan Vong's assault. However, the Republic's true intention was to entice the Vong towards Corellia and then activate Centerpoint Station as a colossal gravity well generator, trapping them within the system. In anticipation of the impending confrontation, Leia Organa Solo journeyed to the New Republic-aligned Hapes Consortium to secure the Hapan Royal Navy's assistance in safeguarding the Core Worlds. Concurrently, Commodore Turk Brand mustered a fleet in the Commenor system, poised to swiftly jump to Corellia, while the Fifth Fleet dispersed across the Bothan sector to protect its vulnerable flank.
However, the Vong's actual target was revealed to be Fondor, home to a massive New Republic shipyard complex, rather than Corellia or Bothawui. Earlier, Kyp Durron had led his squadron in an attempt to free slaves held on the clustership Crèche, which also contained Wurth Skidder. Under attack, Commander Chine-kal jumped the ship to Fondor, their intended destination. Confident in his preparations, Nas Choka, the Supreme Commander of the Yuuzhan Vong fleet, initiated the assault. With Dovin basals obstructing the routes from Bothawui to Fondor, the Hapans redeployed their fleet from Commenor to Fondor. Caught by surprise, only a few New Republic ships stationed there were able to respond. Before the Hapan fleet's arrival, suicide coralskipper bombers devastated much of the shipyards and most of the thirty docked capital ships.
Boarding the Crèche, Kyp and Ganner Rhysode succeeded in rescuing most of the enslaved individuals. However, upon locating Skidder, they realized he was near death. Skidder requested that they rescue Randa and eliminate the yammosk before passing away. Durron and Ganner rescued Randa and killed the yammosk, but the vessel began to fail. The trio escaped in time, but Chine-kal managed to inform Choka of the Hutts' betrayal.
Upon receiving news of the Fondor attack at Corellia, Jedi Knight Anakin Solo, prompted by former Corellian dictator Thrackan Sal-Solo, armed Centerpoint regardless, while Jacen Solo, opposed to the idea, attempted to dissuade him. Anakin intended to use the station's massive repulsors to crush the Vong fleet, but was stopped at the last moment by his pacifistic brother, Jacen. A disgusted Sal-Solo activated the controls instead.
However, Sal-Solo failed to properly aim the beam. Although the massive repulsor beam destroyed half of the Vong fleet, forcing their retreat, it came at a significant cost. Much of the Hapan fleet was destroyed, and the beam grazed and destroyed a section of Fondor's second largest moon. The beam also scorched Fondor's northern hemisphere before continuing into space. With the yammosk dead and unsure if there would be another energy beam, Choka ordered his fleet to retreat.
Upon his return to Hapes, Prince Isolder was held accountable for the Hapan fleet's destruction and withdrew from public life. The Force-feedback from the numerous deaths caused Queen Mother Djo, who was pregnant, to miscarry. Both of these events shifted the balance of power in favor of Isolder's mother, Ta'a Chume. Shortly after the battle, the Hapes Consortium once again closed its borders to the galaxy.
The loss of Fondor, a lucrative market, triggered turmoil in Hutt politics, with many clans opposing the ruling Besadii.
With his alliance with the Hutt Domain shattered, Choka blockaded Hutt Space and launched an attack on Nal Hutta in an attempt to strengthen his position, driving the Hutts from Hutt Space. Choka spent the following two years campaigning in Hutt Space, and his victories eventually led Supreme Overlord Shimrra to promote him to Warmaster.
Sal-Solo was hailed as a hero by the Corellians, and the following year, he was elected Governor-General of the Corellian sector.
Despite being nearly destroyed, the Fondor shipyards continued to serve the fleets of the New Republic and Galactic Alliance for the remainder of the war.
Anakin Solo later regretted not having fired Centerpoint Station at Thrackan's urging, believing he could have destroyed the Yuuzhan Vong fleet without devastating the Hapans. Consequently, Anakin began advocating for more aggressive actions in the war against the Vong, while Jacen became more withdrawn.
