Chio Fain

Chio Fain, an Ardennian male slicer, plied his trade during the Galactic Empire's era. A disastrous operation resulted in Fain losing Rone, his partner, due to the Empire's actions, fueling his desire for vengeance. Fain was subsequently recruited into a team led by Beilert Valance, a bounty hunter, tasked by the Hidden Hand crime syndicate with hunting down the Sith Lord Darth Vader. During a confrontation on Heva, Fain seized the opportunity to confront Vader, seeking retribution for Rone's demise. Although Fain managed to resist Darth Vader for a time, the Sith Lord ultimately proved too powerful, resulting in Fain's death.

Biography

Slicer work

Chio Fain watches as Rone is killed by the Empire.

In the Galactic Empire's period, Chio Fain worked as a slicer alongside his partner, Rone. In 6 BBY, they embarked on a mission that involved slicing into Imperial property, an endeavor Fain viewed with apprehension. The two slicers were eventually apprehended and pursued by TIE fighters in the skies above Ryarten. As Rone began to lag behind, he made the decision to allow the fighters to overtake him, enabling Fain to escape into hyperspace.

Despite Fain's attempts to object, Rone was killed, leaving Fain with no choice but to reluctantly flee. Rone's death at the hands of the Empire instilled in Fain a deep-seated hatred for the regime, with a particular desire to eliminate Darth Vader, the Sith Lord serving as the Empire's primary enforcer.

Hunt for Darth Vader

The hunt begins

Five years later, in 1 BBY, Gwi, a messenger for the Hidden Hand crime syndicate, hired Fain. The slicer then became part of a team comprised of bounty hunters and mercenaries whose objective was the assassination of Darth Vader. This team was under the leadership of Beilert Valance, a cyborg bounty hunter, and included Dengar, a bounty hunter; Honnah, a Gamorrean tracker; Arr-Nine-Nineteen, a droid who proclaimed himself a Jedi hunter; and Urrr'k, a sniper. Valance, disliking droids, immediately destroyed Arr-Nine-Nineteen, discovering that the droid carried a tracker for the Hutt Clan. With the team now complete, Valance was prepared to commence their hunt.

The team journeyed aboard the Broken Wing, Valance's starship. Following Valance's destruction of several TIE fighters, Dengar expressed concern that the Empire would be alerted, but Fain reassured him, assuming that Valance had jammed the fighters' communications. However, Valance had intentionally amplified the signals to attract the Empire's attention. The team then landed on Arvina to meet with Fetya, an arms dealer, in the town of Fetya's Hollow. While Valance negotiated with Fetya, Fain infiltrated her databanks, uncovering the locations of Hidden Hand outposts. Fetya betrayed Valance due to the failure of a prior operation, but an Imperial Star Destroyer arrived above Arvina, obliterating the town. The crew escaped aboard the Broken Wing, narrowly avoiding Vader, who instead tortured Fetya to extract information about the Hidden Hand.

Facing Vader

The crew's subsequent destination was a Hidden Hand outpost on Heva, where they encountered Wef, an arms dealer whose inventory included bot-drones. As Fain infiltrated the drones' command center, the Star Destroyer Formidable appeared above Heva, carrying Darth Vader. Valance engaged the Star Destroyer in the Broken Wing, while Fain remotely piloted the bot-drones alongside the cruiser. Vader engaged the bounty hunters in a skirmish, piloting his TIE Advanced x1 and destroying several bot-drones. Under Valance's direction, Fain combined the drones and used them to destroy the Formidable's command tower, causing the Star Destroyer to crash. The Broken Wing sustained damage and also crashed, while Vader landed on Heva to pursue the bounty hunters.

With Vader on the ground, Valance prepared to execute his plan to use an electromagnetic pulse device to disable Vader's armor. Dengar, growing impatient, attempted to contact the other hunters, but Fain silenced him, preventing their positions from being compromised. However, Fain, also eager to kill Vader as revenge for Rone's death, jumped down to confront the Sith Lord. Vader attacked him from behind, using his lightsaber to deflect Fain's blaster bolts. Despite being hit, Fain refused to yield, dodging Vader's attacks and continuing to fire.

Chio Fain is killed by Darth Vader.

Vader overwhelmed Fain, slicing off three of his arms. Honnah intervened, attacking Vader with her Gamorrean battle-ax, saving Fain. The two hunters, working in unison, managed to inflict minor damage on Vader, but it had no effect on the Sith Lord. Vader used the Force to lift Fain, throwing him into the blade of Honnah's ax. Fatally wounded, Fain fell to the ground, whispering Rone's name before succumbing to his injuries.

Following Fain's death, Vader killed Honnah, and Dengar revealed himself as a spy for the Empire, betraying Valance. Valance was captured and interrogated, but Vader ultimately spared his life, stating that he required his service in the Empire.

Personality and traits

Chio Fain, an Ardennian male, possessed orange eyes, gray hair, and gray and tan skin. Driven by a desire for revenge, Fain was deeply affected by the death of his partner, Rone, at the hands of the Empire. Gwi described Fain as insane when introducing him to Valance, a description Fain lived up to, expressing his preference for being led by an insane captain. Despite the high risk and potential for failure in Valance's plan, Fain was unconcerned, as long as he could die doing what he enjoyed. Despite his apparent insanity, Fain claimed that he was not foolish enough to approach Vader, a claim he contradicted when he attempted to avenge Rone's death. Even after losing three of his four arms, Fain remained confident in his ability to defeat Darth Vader.

Skills and abilities

Chio Fain uses his blasters in battle against Darth Vader.

Fain was a highly skilled slicer, having performed slicing operations for many years, and was regarded by Gwi as the best in the galaxy. He possessed extensive technological knowledge, identifying a customized communications jammer created by Grenyt in the Broken Wing's cockpit. During the hunt for Vader, Fain piloted bot-drones in a skirmish against the Empire, using them to destroy a Star Destroyer. He was also proficient in combat with blasters, holding off Vader for a period of time, but was ultimately defeated.

Equipment

In combat, Fain wielded up to four blasters of various models, including a DC-17, which he could hold in his four arms. He lost three of his blasters when Darth Vader severed his arms, but continued to fight Vader with a blaster held in his remaining arm. During Valance's hunt for Vader, Fain utilized remotely-piloted bot-drones. Fain wore a black and orange flight suit and had goggles positioned on his forehead.
