Corellian Home Fleet
The Corellian Home Fleet, also referred to as the Corellian defense fleet, functioned as the space-based navy responsible for the protection of both Corellia and the encompassing Corellian system. It stood as the most significant naval component within the larger Corellian Defense Force.
Organization
As a primary fleet element of the Space Service branch within the Corellian Defense Force (CDF), the Corellian defense fleet held the specific duty of safeguarding Corellia and the broader Corellian system. Its central command was based in the Orbital Industrial Zone situated around Corellia.
Leadership of the Corellian Home Fleet, along with the entire CDF, was vested in the highest authority of the Corellian system. Initially, this was the Governor-General of the Corellian sector, but later the role was assumed by the Five World Prime Minister. From a strictly military perspective, command of the CDF and the Corellian Home Fleet resided with the Supreme Commander of the Corellian Defense Force.
Starships
The Corellian Home Fleet utilized a diverse array of starships, predominantly manufactured by the Corellian Engineering Corporation. Capital ship classes included corvettes (notably the CR90 corvette and the CR92a Assassin-class corvette), gunships, frigates, cruiser, and Star Defenders (such as the Strident-class Star Defender). Smaller craft consisted of patrol boats (like the Pocket Patrol Boat), transports, and various Starfighters (including the Corellian attack fighter). Additionally, the Corellian defense fleet operated outdated Imperial starship models for decades following the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War. These included TIE series fighters, A-9 Vigilance interceptors, A-10 interceptors, I-7 Howlrunners and EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigates.
History
Towards the tail end of the Galactic Civil War, the New Republic took control of the Corellian system after the collapse of the Diktat's governance. Micamberlecto, appointed by the New Republic as the Governor-General of the Corellian sector, assumed the position of commander-in-chief for the Corellian Armed Forces. However, Corellian military personnel, particularly those loyal to the Empire and the Diktat, hesitated to follow the orders of a New Republic appointee. With the onset of the Corellian Crisis, in 18 ABY, the majority of the CDF's space-based assets turned against the New Republic, defecting to the Triad of Sacorria. Subsequently, when Thrackan Sal-Solo's Human League seized control of Corellia, the remaining Corellian space forces within the Corellian system aligned themselves with Thrackan Sal-Solo. Elements of the Corellian defense fleet then attempted to capture Leia Organa Solo, the Chief of State of the New Republic.
Over a decade later, in the years after the [Yuuzhan Vong War](/article/yuuzhan_vong_war], the Corellian system was under the rule of the Five Worlds regime. By 40 ABY, escalating tensions between the Galactic Alliance and the Five Worlds led to the Second Galactic Civil War. The war began with the Galactic Alliance Navy's invasion of the Corellian system during Operation Roundabout. At this point, the Corellian Home Fleet possessed at least a dozen starfighter squadrons and hundreds of capital ships, although none were as large as a Galactic-class battle carrier. However, a significant portion of these ships were essentially derelicts, used to create an illusion of strength and divert attention from the truly functional vessels. During Operation Roundabout, the Corellian defense fleet engaged the technologically superior Galactic Alliance forces, suffering substantial losses. Despite this, Corellian forces mounted a defense that prevented the Galactic Alliance from completely conquering Corellia. In response, the Galactic Alliance Navy initiated a blockade of Corellia. Throughout the blockade, the Corellian Home Fleet conducted hit-and-run attacks against Galactic Alliance ships across the five planets of the Corellian system. As the conflict intensified, other worlds joined Corellia, forming the Confederation. Confederation space forces then attacked the Galactic Alliance Navy within the Corellian system, assisting the Corellian Home Fleet in lifting the blockade of Corellia.
