Corellian Home Fleet

Organization

As a major fleet component, the Corellian defense fleet operated under the umbrella of the Space Service, itself a branch of the broader Corellian Defense Force (CDF). Its primary mission was the safeguarding of Corellia and the surrounding Corellian system. The fleet's central command was situated within the Orbital Industrial Zone orbiting Corellia.

Leadership of the Corellian Home Fleet, in conjunction with the entire CDF, rested with the governing authority of the Corellian system. This role was initially held by the Governor-General of the Corellian sector, and subsequently by the Five World Prime Minister. From a strictly military perspective, command of both the CDF and the Corellian Home Fleet was delegated to the Supreme Commander of the Corellian Defense Force.

Starships

The Corellian Home Fleet utilized a diverse array of starships, with a significant portion originating from the manufacturing facilities of the Corellian Engineering Corporation. Capital ship assets included corvettes (such as the CR90 corvette and the CR92a Assassin-class corvette), gunships, frigates, cruiser, and Star Defenders (notably the Strident-class Star Defender). Smaller craft consisted of patrol boats (for example, the Pocket Patrol Boat), transports, and various Starfighters (like the Corellian attack fighter). Furthermore, the Corellian defense fleet operated outdated Imperial starship models for decades following the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, including TIE series fighters, A-9 Vigilance interceptors, A-10 interceptors, I-7 Howlrunners and EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigates.

History

Towards the latter stages of the Galactic Civil War, the New Republic assumed control of the Corellian system following the collapse of the Diktat's authority. Micamberlecto, appointed by the New Republic as Governor-General of the Corellian sector, took over as the supreme commander of the Corellian Armed Forces. However, numerous Corellian personnel, particularly those loyal to the Empire and the Diktat, resisted obeying directives from a New Republic appointee. At the onset of the Corellian Crisis, in 18 ABY, a significant portion of the CDF's space-based assets turned against the New Republic, choosing to side with the Triad of Sacorria. Subsequently, during Thrackan Sal-Solo's Human League's seizure of Corellia, the remaining Corellian space forces within the Corellian system aligned themselves with Thrackan Sal-Solo. Elements within the Corellian defense fleet even attempted to capture Leia Organa Solo, the Chief of State of the New Republic.

Over ten years later, following the conclusion of the Yuuzhan Vong War, the Corellian system was under the governance of the Five Worlds regime. In 40 ABY, escalating tensions between the Galactic Alliance and the Five Worlds led to the commencement of the Second Galactic Civil War. The war was triggered by the Galactic Alliance Navy's invasion of the Corellian system as part of Operation Roundabout. At this time, the Corellian Home Fleet consisted of at least a dozen starfighter squadrons and hundreds of capital-class vessels (though none were as large as the Galactic-class battle carrier). However, many of these ships were derelict and used for deception, to mask the positions of the functional ships. During Operation Roundabout, the Corellian defense fleet engaged the superior forces of the Galactic Alliance, sustaining substantial losses. Despite this, Corellian forces mounted a defense, preventing the Galactic Alliance from fully occupying Corellia. In response to their failure, the Galactic Alliance Navy implemented a blockade of Corellia. Throughout the blockade, the Corellian Home Fleet launched hit-and-run attacks on Galactic Alliance vessels across the five planets of the Corellian system. As the conflict intensified, other systems joined Corellia, forming the Confederation. Confederation naval forces attacked the Galactic Alliance Navy within the Corellian system, assisting the Corellian Home Fleet in breaking the blockade of Corellia.
