I'vorcia Prime

I'vorcia Prime, also referred to simply as I'vorcia, was a planet situated within the Outer Rim Territories and served as the homeworld for a diverse array of unique creatures, notably including sarlaccs. During the Imperial Era, specifically the period of the Galactic Empire's dominance, its delicate ecosystem suffered extensive damage due to the Battle of I'vorcia Prime. The surviving portions of the planet were subsequently designated as a protected nature preserve, while a strict quarantine blockade was established in orbit above.

In the vicinity of 5 BBY, the smugglers known as Han Solo and Chewbacca accepted a commission from the collector Dok-Ondar to procure juvenile sarlaccs from Doctor [Genzhor](/article/genzhor], who resided on I'vorcia Prime. However, Solo was double-crossed by Ooris, Genzhor's assistant, who attempted to abscond with Solo's starship, the renowned Millennium Falcon, with the intention of escaping I'vorcia Prime while carrying frozen sarlacc spores. The smugglers successfully thwarted Ooris's scheme and departed I'vorcia Prime with a single young sarlacc, transporting it back to Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities located on Batuu.

Description

I'vorcia Prime, alternatively called I'vorcia, was a terrestrial planet found in the Outer Rim Territories, specifically within grid square O-4 of the Standard Galactic Grid. It functioned as the homeworld for a vibrant ecosystem, supporting numerous species that were unique to this region of the Outer Rim. This world also harbored a population of deadly sarlaccs. From space, the planet exhibited a green-blue color and featured diverse surface features including forests, rivers, and cliffs. Furthermore, colossal arches covered in plant life spanned across the planet's cliffs and jungles. I'vorcia Prime possessed a breathable atmosphere.

History

Battle of I'vorcia Prime and aftermath

The Ivorcia Prime Preserve

During the time when the Galactic Empire was in power, the Battle of I'vorcia Prime caused significant damage to much of the planet's ecosystem. The remaining areas were preserved as a nature preserve, which was used by Imperial officers for hunting the unique predators native to the planet. Additionally, a quarantine blockade was established around the world. At a later point, the preserve became the site of a scientific research outpost overseen by Doctor Genzhor, who was considered the foremost expert on sarlaccs in the galaxy. This continued until he was betrayed by his assistant, Ooris, resulting in his death.

Circa 5 BBY, Dok-Ondar, a shopkeeper on the planet Batuu, contracted the smugglers Han Solo and Chewbacca to travel to Genzhor's location and acquire several young sarlaccs for his collection. Using clearance codes provided by their Ithorian employer, the pair successfully navigated the blockade and landed on I'vorcia Prime in the starship Millennium Falcon. Upon their arrival, they were greeted by Ooris, who was accompanied by a member of a Dowutin team working alongside the former assistant.

Betrayal at Genzhor's

Ooris escorted Solo and Chewbacca to the research facility and then betrayed them, pushing Solo into a pit containing two adolescent and two infant sarlaccs. Ooris's Dowutin accomplice also fell into the pit after Solo shot at him, and he was subsequently devoured by a baby sarlacc. A second Dowutin assaulted Chewbacca with a stun stick. While the Wookiee smuggler defended himself, Solo discovered the skeletal remains of Genzhor, retrieved the doctor's stun stick, and used it to fend off the sarlaccs. Chewbacca overcame his attacker, throwing him into the mouth of a larger sarlacc, and then shot a third Dowutin with his bowcaster.

During this chaos, Ooris had departed to seize control of the Millennium Falcon in order to escape the planet, hoping to profit from the frozen sarlacc spores he was carrying. However, Chewbacca foiled his plan by reclaiming the light freighter. He rescued Solo from the edge of a cliff and used Ooris as bait to capture one of the infant sarlaccs. The two smugglers then returned to Black Spire Outpost on Batuu and delivered the sarlacc to Dok-Ondar at his establishment, Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities. Later, the shop owner recounted the story of how he acquired the creature to the Kendoh Gang while they were attempting to negotiate a deal with the merchant.

Following the death of the clone of Darth Sidious in 35 ABY, Ardis San Tekka, an enthusiast of creatures, mentioned I'vorcia Prime in an entry about sarlaccs in her journal. This journal chronicled her adventures with her droid companion B8-T5 as they observed non-sentient creatures throughout the galaxy.

Locations

Following the Battle of I'vorcia Prime, the planet became the location of a nature preserve utilized by Imperial officers seeking to hunt dangerous predators. The preserve itself then housed Doctor Genzhor's research outpost. I'vorcia Prime was cited in the 907th edition of the Xenobotanical Journal of the University of Coruscant as a planet inhabited by sarlaccs, an excerpt of which was published in the botanical guide "The One With the Green Thumb."

Behind the scenes

I'vorcia Prime made its initial appearance in a flashback sequence within the Marvel comic Galaxy's Edge 1, authored by Ethan Sacks and illustrated by Will Sliney. It was released on April 24, 2019. The comic provides the backstory for the animatronic sarlacc prop featured in the Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities retail location within the Disney Parks themed land Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. A shortened form of the name was subsequently introduced via a map created for the reference book Star Wars: Timelines and distributed as a promotional poster at Celebration Anaheim from May 26 to 29, 2022, preceding the book's release during Celebration Europe from April 7 to 10, 2023.
