Joth Ver

Joth Ver, a human inhabitant of Mimban, served as a member of the Spice Runners of Kijimi. During the First Order's occupation of Batuu in 34 ABY, a bounty was placed on Ver. While the spicerunner was in hiding at Black Spire Outpost on Batuu, a visitor identified Ver and alerted the Bounty Hunters' Guild to their location.

In 35 ABY, Ver stood by Zorii Bliss, the leader of the Spice Runners, during her confrontation with Poe Dameron, a former spicerunner, in Kijimi City on Kijimi. After Bliss commanded Ver and the other crew members to attack, Rey, Dameron's ally, used her quarterstaff to defeat them. Shortly before Kijimi's destruction by the Sith Eternal, Bliss agreed to assist Dameron, Rey, and their companions.

Biography

Hailing from the planet Mimban, Joth Ver, a human, became affiliated with the Spice Runners of Kijimi during the First Order-Resistance War. During the First Order's occupation of Batuu in 34 ABY, Ver faced an 8,600-credit bounty due to involvement in smuggling, property damage, evading arrest, and being a spicerunner. The bounty notice warned that Ver was armed, dangerous, and should be approached with extreme caution. A visitor to Black Spire Outpost on Batuu was assigned Ver's bounty by the Bounty Hunters' Guild. Utilizing a thermal scanner, the visitor located the spicerunner concealed within one of the outpost's buildings. This location was then reported to the local Guildmaster's Hideout so the visitor could claim the reward.

In 35 ABY, during the occupation of Kijimi City on the planet Kijimi by the First Order, Ver was present. Alongside Zorii Bliss, the leader of the Spice Runners, and fellow members Vibbo and Vicii, Ver tracked down the former spicerunner Poe Dameron after Bliss discovered his entry into the city. Bliss surprised Dameron, now a member of the Resistance, holding him and several Resistance allies at blaster point in a city street. Ver and the other spicerunners slowly encircled the Resistance members as Dameron attempted to persuade Bliss to help him. However, upon recognizing the Jedi Rey as a First Order bounty target, Bliss ordered her crew to attack.

Using her quaterstaff, the Jedi incapacitated Bliss and the other two spicerunners before striking Ver in the chest with the staff, sending the last standing member of Bliss's crew tumbling down a stairway. After Rey revealed her lightsaber, Bliss decided to aid the Resistance, leading Dameron and his allies away from the streets, leaving Ver and the others behind, including the unconscious Vibbo and Vicii. The presence of the Resistance operatives led the First Order to impose a lockdown on Kijimi City, rounding up residents for interrogation. Consequently, the spicerunners convened to strategize their escape routes off-world. Bliss, Vicii, and at least some of the other spicerunners successfully evacuated the planet before the Sith Eternal destroyed it, following the First Order's evacuated of its personnel.

Equipment

Ver's attire consisted of a brown fur cloak worn over a red outfit, complemented by a brown bandolier, a brown belt, and a brown and red helmet. The spicerunner carried a blaster pistol in a holster and wielded a blaster rifle during the attack on Rey.

Behind the scenes

Zorii Henchmen Mood Version 1B

Joth Ver made his debut in the 2019 film Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, part of the sequel trilogy. Costume concept artist Calum Alexander Watt created concept art of Ver alongside Bliss and another henchman, titled "Zorii Henchmen Mood Version 1B." This was the only piece of concept art that showed Bliss with her crew. Ver was later identified in Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters, an augmented-reality video game that launched at Walt Disney World on July 27, 2022.

The novelization of The Rise of Skywalker by Rae Carson, published on March 17, 2020, inaccurately describes only two spicerunners, Vibbo and Vicii, attacking Rey with Bliss, despite the film clearly showing three. Similarly, the junior novelization of the film, released on April 16, 2020, only describes two mercenaries armed with pikes assisting Bliss. The graphic novel illustrated by Cryssy Cheung in 2021 also depicts only two other spicerunners, neither of whom match the appearances of the three spicerunners seen in the film.
