LEP-series service droid

The LEP-series service droid, also referred to as the LEP servant droid, represents a third class service droid model. These droids were utilized extensively during the period of the Clone Wars and in subsequent eras. Notable individuals such as Nuvo Vindi, Whorm Loathsom, and Tan Divo are all documented to have owned one of these particular droids. Capable of vocal communication, whether through the use of Galactic Basic or via a series of chirping and squeaking sounds, often delivered in a high-pitched tone, these droids fulfilled a range of functions, including the provision of refreshments and the handling of datapads.

Description

Droids of the LEP type were products of Coachelle Automata, a manufacturing enterprise managed by members of the sentient and leporine Lepi species, whose physical characteristics they mirrored.

Their design did not account for combat situations; consequently, they typically sought refuge by fleeing and concealing themselves when faced with hostile encounters. However, when trapped, they were capable of displaying aggression and retaliating.

History

At one point, Whorm Loathsom acquired an assistant droid and maintained its presence during the Battle of Christophsis. Before its destruction, the droid became a helpless observer as General Obi-Wan Kenobi apprehended its master. Later, on Naboo, Doctor Nuvo Vindi instructed his assistant, LEP-86C8, to return a virus bomb to its containment area. In order to complete this task, the droid was forced to evade clone troopers, ultimately succeeding in releasing the virus and compelling Republic forces to develop a cure.

When the bounty hunter Cad Bane seized the Republic Executive Building, another LEP droid was present. Before being shot and destroyed by one of the bounty hunters, its attempt to escape was unsuccessful. Duchess Satine Kryze of Mandalore employed numerous LEP droids aboard her personal yacht, the Coronet.

Several servant droids were in service to Moff Quarsh Panaka within his chalet on Onoam. When the chalet was destroyed by a bomb, these droids were also destroyed, with their components scattered widely.

Following Bib Fortuna's assumption of control over Jabba's Palace, an LEP-series service droid was employed within the palace to manage the rat population. Subsequent to the takeover by ex-bounty hunter Boba Fett as Daimyo, it continued its service in the castle.

The LEP service droids reside in the domed city of Plazir-15.

In 34 ABY, at least two LEP servant droids were working within Takodana Castle.

Behind the scenes

The sounds of LEP servant droids can be discerned within Takodana Castle in the film Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens. The fourth episode of the Disney+ television series The Book of Boba Fett, entitled "Chapter 4: The Gathering Storm," marks the inaugural live-action portrayal of a LEP-series service droid.

The droid's design can be traced to early conceptual artwork by Doug Chiang for Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.
