Poetics of a Jedi, alternatively titled Poetics of the Jedi, was a book penned by the esteemed Jedi Master Lyr Farseeker. As a significant historical document of the Jedi Order, it has been the subject of scholarly discussion. By 34 ABY, the Jedi Luke Skywalker had acquired Poetics of a Jedi, including it within his collection of Jedi texts during his exile on the planet Ahch-To, before the Jedi trainee Rey eventually gained possession of it.

Description

Also known as Poetics of the Jedi, Poetics of a Jedi is a book created by the Jedi Master Lyr Farseeker. Originally inscribed using ink upon uneti pulp paper, it is considered a fundamental Jedi text. Master Farseeker's contributions were supplemented by updated knowledge from subsequent generations. Poetics of a Jedi offered detailed insight into the Force and the cosmos, as well as philosophical reflections on the capabilities of a Jedi's mind and heart. The book's contents were regarded as sacred and relevant to the very nature of the galaxy.

History

Luke Skywalker collected ancient Jedi texts, including Poetics of a Jedi.

Sometime between approximately 234 BBY and 200 BBY, during the era known as the High Republic Era, a young boy named Lohim Nara journeyed to the Jedi Temple on the planet Coruscant, hoping to be trained as a Jedi Knight. During a conversation with Grand Master Yoda, Nara inquired about the path to becoming a Jedi. Yoda initiated the discussion by mentioning the importance of studying significant Jedi writings, specifically those authored by Lyr Farseeker. In 33 BBY, subsequent to the closing of the Jedi outpost on the planet Ord Jannak, various items from the outpost, including a scholarly work discussing Poetics of the Jedi, were recovered and returned to the Jedi Temple by Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi. Subsequently, Jedi Master Eeth Koth and a Temple staffer sorted through the retrieved items, with the staffer specifically noting the scholarly work pertaining to Poetics of the Jedi.

Many years afterward, Poetics of a Jedi was among the eight books that Luke Skywalker managed to acquire during his quest for ancient Jedi scriptures. He later housed this collection within the tree library located on the planet Ahch-To by 34 ABY. Skywalker referenced these ancient texts in his own publication, The Secrets of the Jedi, also in 34 ABY. These books were subsequently handed down to the Jedi apprentice Rey, who brought them aboard the YT-1300 light freighter known as the Millennium Falcon upon leaving Ahch-To in 34 ABY, and shortly thereafter transported them to the Resistance base on the planet Ajan Kloss. Upon reading a passage from Poetics of a Jedi in 35 ABY, Rey expressed a desire for more practical guidance and less abstract philosophical musings within its pages.
