Eeth Koth, a male Zabrak from [Iridonia](/article/iridonia], was a Force-sensitive individual of the Iridonian species. He achieved the rank of Jedi Master within the Jedi Order. As a prominent member of the Jedi High Council during the Galactic Republic's latter years, Koth actively participated in the Clone Wars against the Confederacy of Independent Systems, holding the rank of Jedi General within the Republic Military. Despite surviving the initial conflict on Geonosis, in 21 BBY, Separatist General Grievous attacked and captured Koth, intending to use him to bait other Jedi into an ambush. Republic forces, led by Jedi Generals Obi-Wan Kenobi, Adi Gallia, and Anakin Skywalker, rescued the Jedi Master from death in a battle above Saleucami.
After his rescue, Koth gave up his position on the High Council, which was then given to Jedi Master Agen Kolar, resulting in the Iridonian leaving the Jedi Order. He later became a priest in the Church of the Ganthic Enlightenment on a desert planet during the Galactic Empire's reign, which was the successor state to the Republic. Following his retirement, Koth married Mira, who later gave birth to their daughter. However, Darth Vader, the Sith Lord and former Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, found Koth on the desert planet during his eradication of the remaining Jedi not long after her birth. Koth was killed by the Sith Lord in their duel, and Vader then kidnapped his child as a potential candidate for the Imperial Project Harvester.
Eeth Koth, a male Zabrak from the planet of Iridonia in the Mid Rim, was discovered to be Force-sensitive at the age of four and was subsequently brought to the Jedi Temple to begin his training as a Jedi. He quickly rose through the ranks to become a Jedi Master and was appointed to the Jedi High Council by 40 BBY, eventually becoming a highly respected member of the council.
When Cere Junda explained to the Council how she was provoked on a mission on Nameel and attacked some Trandoshans, Koth was present. The Council decided to send them to Ontotho to oversee the excavation of an Ontothon temple. Later, Koth attended a Council discussion regarding the conflict between Czerka Arms and the Pijali monarchy.
By 33 BBY, Koth was tasked with assessing materials from closed Jedi outposts to determine what should be added to the Jedi Archives on Coruscant, a duty typically assigned to a council member. Koth later attended a Council meeting where Qui-Gon Jinn urged the council to focus more on individuals in the galaxy and the living Force, arguing that the Jedi Order had become too preoccupied with large-scale issues and had lost sight of the smaller things in front of them. When the outpost on Kwenn, which had been open for 200 years and had required considerable Jedi effort, was suggested as the next closure, the Council decided to meet in person on Kwenn before making a decision. They would plan an anniversary celebration for the people of Kwenn, in an effort to meet Jinn's challenge.
Koth began cataloging the Kwenn outpost's library upon arriving on Kwenn so that it would be finished in the event of the outpost's closure. Koth had anticipated the task would be quick because the caretaker Seneschal Voh was known for keeping meticulous records, but he found several discrepancies between the records and the actual collection. Koth and Oppo Rancisis questioned Voh, who was mortified that items had gone missing while he was in charge. Voh believed that an exterminator, who had been left alone in the outpost to get rid of egralla mites a few years earlier, had taken the missing items. Despite Rancisis' urging to let the matter go and get to know the people of Kwenn, Koth was determined to solve the mystery of the missing items.
Koth discovered that the exterminator had left Kwenn after selling any stolen goods by searching Kwenn's governmental records. He was sent to the Lamplighter Boutique on Kinnawah Key, the only place on Kwenn likely to buy printed works. Hadden Shrag owned the Lamplighter, but because Shrag was recovering from an injury on one of Kwenn's moons, Koth spoke with his wife Pogee. She gladly allowed him to browse the boutique, which was so packed with ephemera that the door barely opened. Koth nearly gave up finding anything until he noticed a datapad written by a Jedi Master. Although it was just a treatise on fishing, it had a symbol indicating it came from the Jedi library at the Kwenn outpost. This was enough proof for Koth that more items stolen from the outpost might be inside, and Pogee was more than happy to let him straighten up and search through the overstuffed boutique. Realizing he needed help, he contacted other members of the council who were already on Kwenn, but found that they had tasks of their own. He then turned to Qui-Gon Jinn, asking him and his Padawan Kenobi to come to Kwenn and help out in the library matter.
Jinn and Kenobi were rerouted en route to Kwenn, so Koth worked alone until Masters Yaddle and Even Piell arrived. Sensing Koth's disappointment that he had spent his entire time on Kwenn searching through libraries, they took over the work and urged him to go out and explore Kinnawah Key. Koth wandered around the city for some time, grateful for the opportunity, before finding food at an open-air hotel bar near the docked casino barge Pelagic. There, he was approached by a Faleen woman, who introduced herself as Inisa while attempting to pickpocket Koth. He calmly told her that Jedi don't often carry money, but offered to buy her a drink, and sat to talk with her for over an hour. She asked him to prove that he was a Jedi, and did so by using the Force to knock over a drink that her associate had just drugged. Koth explained the nature of the Jedi Order, and learned that Inisa worked for the Poisoned Blades, one of the pirate gangs active on Kwenn and the surrounding sectors. Before parting ways, Koth gave Inisa his personal comm channel, offering her a way out of her criminal lifestyle.
Inisa contacted Koth the evening before the celebration, while the Council members were in the Gala Key Arena preparing, and Koth requested Piell's assistance in dealing with the matter. She warned Koth about the schemes of several allied pirate gangs, allowing the Jedi to stop them. Koth and Piell dealt with a plot in which members of the Staved Skulls gang posed as vendors for the Tasty Comet Frozen Confection Company, a shell corporation owned by the Filthy Creds gang. They planned to use the Tasty Comet vendor carts to smuggle weapons to the arena's plaza during the celebration. Koth and Piell had raided the Tasty Comet warehouse the night before, removing the weapons from the carts and evacuating all attendees from the plaza due to incoming storms, thanks to Inisa's information. Koth and Piell fought the pirates on the plaza, joined later by Yoda and Yaddle.
After the fighting on Kwenn was over and the pirates had been defeated, Koth revisited the Lamplighter Boutique, determining that there was too much to sort through and that they were unlikely to find any of the more valuable missing items there. He took his leave of Pogee Shrag, and opted for a commercial flight back to Coruscant. While waiting at the spaceport bar, he was joined by Inisa, who was also leaving Kwenn after the breakup of the Poisoned Blades. Koth asked why she had warned the Jedi of the pirates' plans, and she admitted that she didn't want to see him get hurt. At Koth's surprise, she asked whether people were allowed to care about individual Jedi. When he said he supposed that was allowed, she asked whether he was allowed to care back. He replied that Jedi cared for all life, and Inisa teased that when he was making the rounds, caring for all life, she'd be happy to tell him how she was doing. She gave Koth her contact information before they headed to their respective boarding bays.

Koth was a member of the Jedi High Council around the Battle of Naboo in 32 BBY, when the Sith revealed their survival as Darth Sidious and his apprentice, Darth Maul. Koth was there when a nine-year-old Anakin Skywalker was brought before the council and tested for his Force abilities and midi-chlorian count by Mace Windu. Koth was more open to Jinn's request to train Skywalker because he had begun his own training at an unusually late age compared to his fellow councilors. After Jinn's death, his final wish was for Skywalker to be trained, so Koth and the rest of the Council agreed. He later went to Jinn's funeral.

During the Separatist Crisis in 22 BBY, Master Koth remained on the Jedi Council. Koth approved Obi-Wan Kenobi's investigation and Skywalker's role as bodyguard when Padmé Amidala was the target of multiple assassination attempts.
Koth accompanied Master Windu and his assault team to the planet Geonosis to save Kenobi, Skywalker, and Amidala. During the battle, Koth was presumed dead after his gunship was struck directly. Koth, however, survived and quickly returned to active duty.
Master Windu was dispatched to the Outer Rim Territories planet Hissrich with a team of other Jedi, Kit Fisto, Prosset Dibs, and Rissa Mano, shortly after the battle to assess the threat posed by a Separatist occupation. Koth was present at the Council meeting where the mission's findings were presented and Dibs was charged with treason. Windu persuaded the other Masters to show mercy, and Dibs was confined to the library.

While on a mission to find those who had launched attacks on hyperspace routes with his fleet, Koth's flagship, the Steadfast, was engaged near the planet Arda in the Outer Rim by Separatist forces under the command of General Grievous. Clone Captain Lock and the clone troopers of General Koth's unit held off the super battle droids for as long as possible, until Master Koth ordered them to get to the escape pods. As the droid General boarded Koth's ship, the Zabrak Jedi was forced to confront the cyborg inside the bridge. Although he managed to be a worthy opponent for Grievous and possibly could have beat him, he was eventually overpowered by Grievous's IG-100 MagnaGuards. But instead of being killed, as Grievous normally would have done, Koth was taken hostage after Grievous claimed his lightsaber. Grievous, having bested the Jedi Master, intended to torture him to death. Grievous sent a transmission to the Jedi Temple, gloating over the Jedi's capture and torturing him with his MagnaGuards. However, Koth was able to communicate with his fingers via a secret message his location, allowing a Jedi task force to be sent to rescue him.

The council recognized the coordinates as belonging to the Saleucami system and dispatched Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Adi Gallia to save Koth. Gallia and Skywalker secretly boarded Grievous' ship and rescued the Jedi Master while Kenobi fought Grievous. They managed to get Koth to safety after fighting their way through numerous droids. After Grievous escaped to Saleucami below in an escape pod, Skywalker and Kenobi pursued him, while Gallia transported an injured Koth to a medical frigate. Although the Jedi were relieved to have rescued Eeth Koth, they were disappointed that they had not achieved a significant victory.
Master Koth continued to serve on the Jedi Council in the years after the First Battle of Geonosis during the early Clone Wars. Koth was present when Skywalker and Senator Amidala reported to the Council that Risha Synata had defected to the Separatists shortly after the Senate hostage crisis. Synata was found guilty of treason and taken into custody after their report.
In 20 BBY, he was present via holographic form in the Jedi High Council when they discussed an ancient Jedi Code that had been sent to them. They decided to send Kenobi, Skywalker, and Skywalker's Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, to investigate.
Later that year, during the Festival of Light, which celebrated Naboo's 847th anniversary of joining the Galactic Republic, he was present at the Jedi Temple communication center when the Council discussed the safety of Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine. Jedi Masters Windu and Yoda revealed that Kenobi (who was thought to have been killed by bounty hunter Rako Hardeen) was still alive and working undercover as Hardeen. Skywalker insisted on completing the mission.

Koth attended the Jedi High Council meeting when the Onderon rebels contacted them, requesting assistance in defeating the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The Council debated whether to send aid, but after hearing Skywalker's argument in favor of sending a team to train the rebels, they agreed to send Skywalker, Tano, Kenobi, and Captain Rex to assist them.
In 19 BBY, the Jedi Temple hangar was bombed, and Letta Turmond was arrested in connection with the incident. She requested to speak with Tano to tell her something, but before she could, she was Force-choked to death. Tano was arrested because she was the only person in the room with Turmond when it happened, but she soon escaped.

Koth and the Council discussed how to apprehend Tano. Everyone present, with the exception of Skywalker, Kenobi, and Plo Koon, believed she was guilty. As a result, Yoda decided to send them to apprehend Tano, despite Mace Windu's reservations that Skywalker's emotional attachment to Tano would complicate matters further. Tano was eventually apprehended.
Koth was present later when Wilhuff Tarkin informed the Council that he and the Galactic Senate wanted the Council to expel Tano and bring her to a military trial, despite the Council's desire for her to have a standard Jedi trial. Following a brief discussion, the Council agreed, believing that supporting Tano would give the impression that they were defying the Senate. Tano was expelled from the Order following her trial at the Chamber of Judgment. However, during her trial, it was revealed that Tano was innocent and that the true traitor was fellow Padawan Barriss Offee, who believed that the Order had strayed from the light side of the Force.

Later, clone trooper Tup shot and killed Jedi General Tiplar and was sent for examination. Jedi Master Shaak Ti went to the Jedi High Council to discuss a tumor, while Nala Se, along with Prime Minister Lama Su, wanted to terminate him. Koth was present when Ti reported the situation. Later, Tup's fellow clone trooper, Fives, secretly treated him and discovered a chip in his brain for Order 66, with Tup dying shortly afterward. Fives stood by his beliefs, which resulted in his death. Koth and his fellow Jedi were unaware that Fives' beliefs were correct.
Queen Julia of Bardotta contacted the Senate to report the disappearance of the Dagoyan Masters. Palpatine was about to send Senators Amidala and Organa, but she specifically requested Junior Representative Jar Jar Binks, a request that perplexed everyone. He was present when Palpatine reported this to the Council. The Council agreed to send Windu to supervise Binks.
Koth was with the Jedi Council when Koon said he found the lightsaber of Sifo-Dyas on the Oba Diah moon. Yoda confirmed this and decided to investigate. Later, Koth was present when it was revealed that Dooku was responsible for the purchase of the clones and were forced to keep it a secret so that the citizens would not lose faith in the Republic.

Later in that very year, Koth was present during an incident where Yoda seemed preoccupied, voicing his persistent hearing of the late Qui-Gon Jinn's voice. The Jedi Council opted to investigate the veracity of this claim, but Yoda did not perceive the voice during the test. Subsequently, Yoda sought medical evaluation at a hospital, yet no abnormalities were detected. The voice of Jinn then guided him toward Dagobah, where he was to uncover the secrets of immortality. On Dagobah, Yoda experienced a vision depicting a reality where the Clone Wars never transpired. However, he discerned the illusory nature of the vision upon encountering Gallia and Jinn. Following this, the apparition of Koth faded away. Yoda then departed Dagobah, having successfully completed his mission.
At some point in time, after the demise of Jedi Master Tu-Anh, Kenobi and Skywalker were dispatched to Utapau. Koth was present during Kenobi's report concerning the impending sale of a massive kyber crystal by Sugi arms dealers. Later, he provided a follow-up report when the crystal was destroyed, prompting Yoda to recount tales of past conflicts between the Jedi and Sith, who wielded weapons fashioned from kyber crystals.
At a later time, Koth attended a meeting where the Council received Yoda's account of a formidable weapon known as Operation: Titan, which had the potential to shift the war's momentum in favor of the Confederacy. However, the available information regarding the enemy project was insufficient. Obi-Wan Kenobi then suggested examining the databanks of a captured Separatist frigate by Anakin Skywalker's forces, given its recent capture. Yoda concurred, deciding to personally join Skywalker in this endeavor. Together, Yoda and Skywalker pursued their leads, ultimately discovering that Operation: Titan involved the creation of a new droid army featuring "megadroids."
Shortly thereafter, Koth was compelled to resign from his position on the Jedi Council and subsequently chose to leave the Jedi Order. He was then succeeded by Jedi Master Agen Kolar. Eventually, Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, who was secretly Darth Sidious, orchestrated the downfall of the Jedi Order by issuing the infamous Order 66. This command compelled the clone troopers, due to a behavioral modification biochip implanted within them, to turn against and eliminate the Jedi. With the assistance of Anakin Skywalker, who had become the Sith Lord Darth Vader, Palpatine established the Galactic Empire, proclaiming himself its Emperor. Under the Emperor's directives, the Jedi were relentlessly hunted down and executed by Darth Vader and the Inquisitorius.

By the year 14 BBY, Koth had relinquished his affiliation with the Jedi Order, embracing the role of a priest within the Church of the Ganthic Enlightenment. He later entered into marriage with a fellow Zabrak named Mira, and together they had a child. Similar to her father, Koth's daughter possessed Force sensitivity, enabling her to connect with the Force. However, a mere moments after his daughter's birth, Darth Vader, accompanied by three Inquisitors, Thirteenth Sister, Fifth Brother, and Tualon Yaluna, arrived at their residence and confronted Koth. He implored Vader to grant him and his family peace, asserting that he was no longer a Jedi and held no allegiance to his former Order. He then attempted to negotiate with Vader, offering information on other Jedi survivors in exchange for his family's safety. Vader disregarded his pleas, and a lightsaber duel ensued.
Koth swiftly launched a medical droid at Vader while simultaneously creating an opening in the room's wall to facilitate his wife and child's escape. He then engaged Vader in combat, who sensed a shift in Koth's emotions compared to his time as a Jedi, now marked by fear, anger, and resentment. Vader remarked that these emotions amplified his power beyond what he could have achieved as a Jedi. Koth retorted that it was either his Zabrak nature manifesting or the realization of what he now stood to lose. Vader dismissed his words, stating that it was too late, and used the Force to hurl Koth away.

Vader commanded the three Inquisitors to seize the infant, dismissing the mother's fate as inconsequential. Koth, regaining his footing, launched another attack, rejecting Vader's label of Jedi and declaring himself a husband and father willing to kill Vader to safeguard his family. During the intense swordfight, Vader briefly restrained Koth with the Force, but Koth managed to land several successful strikes with his lightsaber. While Koth and Vader clashed, the Inquisitors intercepted Koth's wife, ultimately capturing the infant while her distraught mother escaped. Upon returning to their master, the Inquisitors found Vader and Koth bearing the marks of their battle. Unaware of the events that had transpired, Koth reiterated his determination to save his family. Vader then pointed out the child held captive by the Thirteenth Sister. The sight of his child distracted Koth, and Vader ruthlessly seized the opportunity to impale the Zabrak from behind, resulting in his death. The Jedi's lightsaber slipped from his grasp as he perished, and his child was transported to Coruscant to be used for Project Harvester under the care of the Nursemaids.
Following the mission, Thirteenth Sister and Tualon Yaluna celebrated Koth's demise with a toast, each consuming a shot of dust juice, considered the finest beverage available at the Inquisitorius Headquarters. Shortly thereafter, Vader arrived and reprimanded them for sensing a connection between them, deeming it a weakness and emphasizing that Koth's death should serve as a lesson about the dangers of attachments.
Following the deaths of the Thirteenth Sister and Yaluna, after Vader reported of the Inquisitors' actions and was reprimanded by the Emperor due to the death of Senator Maklooq, Vader's master congratulated him for Koth's death, stating that as a former member of the Jedi Council, he could have caused trouble for them. The Emperor then laughed at hearing Koth became a priest, stating that Koth was a fool who could not help himself and for such reason the Jedi deserved extinction.
Shortly after the Battle of Fortress Vader, Vader entered a portal constructed by Darth Momin in an attempt to resurrect his wife Padmé Amidala. While traversing through visions, he encountered Koth alongside numerous other Jedi, all wielding their lightsabers in preparation for battle. However, Vader swiftly dispatched all the illusions, impaling Koth through the chest alongside Ferren Barr as the phrase "Let the past die" echoed within his mind.

Koth, a respected male Zabrak Jedi Master, possessed black hair, brown eyes, and tan skin. He stood at a height of 1.87 meters, equivalent to 6 feet and 2 inches. His face was adorned with Iridonian facial tattoos. Eeth Koth held the esteemed rank of Jedi Master within the Jedi Order.
During his tenure on the Jedi High Council, Koth was entrusted with overseeing the closure of several Jedi outposts, a task he was well-suited for due to his exceptional understanding of spatial information and familiarity with the outposts' locations. Specializing in rare artifacts, he meticulously assessed materials retrieved from the closed outposts to determine which items should be preserved within the Jedi Archives on Coruscant. When Master Jinn challenged the council to engage more directly with the everyday lives of galactic citizens, Koth concurred that they had become overly detached on Coruscant and supported Jinn's proposition for increased personal interaction. Regarding the closure of the outpost on Kwenn, Koth thoughtfully considered the impact on the outpost's caretaker and questioned whether the proposed bicentennial celebration of the outpost's opening would be misleading to the people of Kwenn if it were to be closed immediately afterward.
Koth supported Qui-Gon Jinn's petition to train the young Anakin Skywalker as a Jedi despite being too old for training, as he felt identified with Skywalker given that he started his training at an unusually late age.
As a Jedi, Eeth Koth exhibited remarkable control over his emotions. His feelings were sufficiently regulated to enable him to serve on the Jedi High Council for numerous years, the Order's governing body. Koth possessed a strong sense of duty; Rancisis playfully remarked that he was "stuck in his ways" when Koth chose to search for missing library materials rather than engage with the people of Kwenn. He required direct encouragement to delegate that duty before allowing himself to take a break. Despite his extensive work within archives, Koth was capable of forging meaningful connections with others, such as the Poisoned Blades member Inisa. He was composed and gracious, calmly addressing Inisa's attempted pickpocketing by purchasing her a drink instead, engaging in conversation with her for over an hour, and offering her his contact information should she wish to leave her life of crime. Koth's efforts proved fruitful later when Inisa provided intelligence that enabled the Jedi to thwart several pirate schemes on Kwenn. Koth also possessed a sense of humor, participating in Master Piell's jokes as they undermined a plot to smuggle weapons inside frozen dessert carts.
At some point following his removal from the Council, Koth grew disillusioned with the Jedi Order and abandoned it. After his marriage, his priorities shifted to his family. Koth resolved to settle into a quiet life as a priest, officiating weddings and funerals for the Church of the Ganthic Enlightenment.
Following the Clone Wars, Koth became less concerned with controlling his feelings. During their confrontation, Vader recognized Koth's strong emotions - most notably, his fear, anger, and resentment. Koth insinuated that this was because he had "something to lose." In desperation, Koth even attempted to leverage the locations of his former comrades in exchange for his family's safety, demonstrating a complete lack of any partiality toward the Jedi Order and its teachings.
Koth's newfound attachment to his family ultimately proved to be his downfall. Vader used the abduction of Koth's newborn daughter to divert his attention, allowing Vader to impale the distracted Zabrak with no resistance. Even before that, Koth showed Vader that he was willing to do whatever he need to save his family, even launching the very same medical droid who brought his daughter to the world against Vader to save her and his wife.

Koth demonstrated his combat prowess by defending himself against General Grievous, despite having sustained a gunshot wound to the arm moments prior. While he ultimately overpowered the General through the Force rather than direct swordplay, defeating him necessitated the intervention of Grievous's MagnaGuards. He also effectively held his own against Darth Vader, appearing to be only somewhat battered from Force based attacks at the conclusion of the duel proper. His power in the Force was also quite substantial, as he was able to blast a large hole in a thick stone wall while simultaneously hurling a medical droid at Vader. He was also able to blast Grievous into a window with enough power to stun the General. However, Koth was able to fight armed or unarmed and had exceptional agility.

Eeth Koth was known to wield a green lightsaber and typically wore Jedi robes. During the Imperial Era, he adopted the attire of a priest.
Eeth Koth made his debut appearance in the 1999 film Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, where he was initially intended to serve as the leader of the Jedi Council. Concept Artist Iain McCaig drew inspiration from Doug Chiang, the head of the Art Department, for his early sketches of the character.

Koth was portrayed by actor Hassani Shapi in Episode I, and archival footage of Shapi was reused for the Jedi Council scenes in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones. In his appearances during the mission to Geonosis, he was played by local performer Tux Akindoyeni, as the scenes were shot in Australia. Visual differences between the two portrayals eventually prompted Lucasfilm to establish Akindoyeni's character as Agen Kolar, a new Jedi Master, although production paperwork such as scripts and call sheets continued to refer to both of them as Eeth Koth.
When "Grievous Intrigue," a 2010 episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars was being written, series supervising director Dave Filoni wanted to use Koth, but was told by both Leland Chee, keeper of the Holocron continuity database, and Pablo Hidalgo, Internet Content Manager for Lucas Online, that the character was dead. Filoni then received permission from George Lucas to resurrect the character. Koth had been slated to die at the beginning of "Grievous Intrigue," but Filoni decided that he was an interesting enough character to use in future episodes of the series. In the episode, Koth was voiced by actor Chris Edgerly, who gave the character a soft Indian accent that he identified as tricky to do, yet gracious and noble.
Although Ultimate Star Wars gave Koth's homeworld as the moon of Nar Shaddaa, the same as his homeworld in Star Wars Legends, Ultimate Star Wars, New Edition, Star Wars Character Encyclopedia: Updated and Expanded, and Star Wars Character Encyclopedia, New Edition later gave it as Iridonia, making the information from Ultimate Star Wars obsolete. In addition to this, the Star Wars Encyclopedia, Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Character Encyclopedia - Join the Battle!, and the Databank say that Eeth Koth's height is 1.87 meters, while Star Wars Character Encyclopedia: Updated and Expanded says that his height is 1.71 meters.
Star Wars Helmet Collection 33 stated that Koth was killed during Order 66. Koth was later established in Darth Vader (2017) 19 to have survived Order 66 before being killed by Darth Vader in a duel.
