Pol Treidum was a human male who functioned as an officer within the Galactic Empire's military forces. He occupied the rank of lieutenant in 0 BBY and was positioned on the first Death Star. Serving as a gantry officer, he oversaw Docking Bay 327 from the command office alongside an aide. On one particular day, he became aware of the absence of two stormtroopers from their designated posts near the landing ramp of the seized starship, the Millennium Falcon.
After a failed attempt to contact TK-421 using a comlink, Treidum observed a stormtrooper descending the Falcon's ramp, gesturing towards the control room window and tapping his helmet. Interpreting this as a sign of a malfunctioning transmitter, the lieutenant requested his aide to assume his duties while he investigated the issue. However, upon the door sliding open, Treidum was forcefully pushed back into the room by the fist of Chewbacca, a Wookiee member of the Falcon's crew. Almost simultaneously, the lieutenant's aide was blasted by Han Solo, Chewbacca's colleague, who was disguised as a stormtrooper.
Pol Treidum was a male human who was a member of the Imperial Officer Corps within the Galactic Empire. In the year 0 BBY, he held the rank of lieutenant and functioned as a gantry officer aboard the first Death Star superweapon, operating from a command office that had a view of Docking Bay 327. Not long after the destruction of the planet Alderaan, a YT-1300 light freighter was drawn into the docking bay via tractor beam subsequent to its approach to the Death Star within the Alderaan system. Captain Edmos Khurgee, the security officer responsible for Docking Bay 327, waited while Treidum performed the most thorough exterior scan of the craft he could, given the limitations of the available equipment. The scan information was compared with registry searches and images of the captured craft, allowing the Imperials to identify it as the Millennium Falcon, a vessel that had recently escaped from Imperial forces stationed on Tatooine.
Khurgee then instructed his personnel to enter and search the vessel, after which the Sith Lord Darth Vader arrived in the hangar. However, Khurgee reported that the Falcon's crew had abandoned ship and that the vessel was unoccupied. Vader, Khurgee, and the majority of stormtroopers in the hangar subsequently departed, leaving only Scanning crew BT-445 to scan the ship's interior and two stormtroopers, TK-421 and TK-710, to guard the entry ramp. The ship's crew had actually not abandoned ship, subduing the scanning crew before luring in and incapacitating the two guards to steal their armor. From his position in the command office, Treidum noticed the absence of the stormtroopers and attempted to contact TK-421 via comms. Receiving no response, he frowned and moved to the office's forward bay window, where he observed Luke Skywalker, a member of the Falcon's crew disguised as TK-421, exiting the vessel.
Skywalker tapped his helmet, which Treidum interpreted as an indication that the stormtrooper's transmitter was malfunctioning. He communicated this to his aide, another Imperial officer present in the command office, and instructed him to take over his duties while he went to assist with the transmitter issue. However, upon opening the office door to leave and take a turbolift to the hangar, Treidum encountered the rest of the Falcon's crew, including the Wookiee Chewbacca, who struck the officer, throwing him into several nearby barrel-shaped containers and killing him.
Chewbacca's partner, Han Solo, then shot Treidum's [aide](/article/aide], enabling the Falcon's crew to seize control of the office. The crew left the two Imperials' corpses where they had fallen, and after everyone but the intruders' droids had left the office, a squad of stormtroopers commanded by TD-110 arrived to search the office and discovered the dead. The trooper TD-787, who was at the front, ordered one of his men to attend to Treidum before discovering the droids concealed in the room's utility closet. The droid C-3PO claimed that those responsible for attacking the office had proceeded to the prison level, prompting all the stormtroopers except TD-110 to rush off. TD-110 remained to stand guard but allowed the droids to leave.
Treidum wore a black Imperial officer's uniform, including a cap with an officer's disk. His uniform also featured a black belt with another officer's disk and a holster for his blaster pistol, black boots, a rank insignia plaque with four blue squares, and a code cylinder on each breast.
Peter Sumner played Pol Treidum in the 1977 original trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In current Star Wars canon, the character's surname was first mentioned in the 2017 reference book Star Wars: Geektionary: The Galaxy from A - Z. The character's first name was then used in the English version of "The Rise of the Rebellion and the Battle of Yavin," an entry in De Agostini's Star Wars Encyclopedia series that was originally released in Spanish on March 9, 2021. The name came from the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first used on a card in the 1996 A New Hope Limited set of cards for the Star Wars Customizable Card Game created by Decipher
Geektionary describes Treidum as seeing both troopers return to their posts, but the film shows him seeing only the disguised Skywalker. The 2018 Star Wars: A New Hope Graphic Novel Adaptation shows Treidum wearing a gray Imperial officers' uniform instead of black. The Rise of a Hero, a 2017 adaptation of the original trilogy by Louise Simonson, describes the crew of the Falcon as entering an empty office instead of encountering Treidum. A New Hope: The Princess, the Scoundrel, and the Farm Boy, a 2015 adaptation of A New Hope by Alexandra Bracken, describes Skywalker as accompanying the rest of the Falcon's crew up to the office immediately instead of tricking Treidum. The Odyssey of Star Wars: An Epic Poem, a 2021 adaptation of the original trilogy, refers to the unnamed Treidum as a captain.
In the 2022 non-canon video game LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Tredium and his aide are watching a video of a nexu playing piano when they hear the doorbell for the control room ring. Tredium opens the door and greets Chewbacca, Skywalker and Solo in a friendly manner but is interrupted when Chewbacca forces a stormtrooper helmet over the officer's head. The Wookiee then punches Tredium in the face, causing the helmet to spin round on his head as he collapses.
