Tangenine, a planet nestled within the Core Worlds, served as the origin point for norango bush farmers Remba and Kelven, who raised their children Lauren Mel Coelho and Julien there. The Malandro syndicate, a powerful entity on the planet, demanded protection money from Remba and Kelven, a practice that ended tragically when Remba refused, resulting in the murder of the couple and their workforce. Later, during the Clone Wars, the Separatist Alliance inflicted substantial damage to Tangenine's infrastructure, further empowering the syndicates.
Following the conclusion of the war in 19 BBY, the Galactic Empire endeavored to restore order to Tangenine, deploying bounty hunters to dismantle the syndicates. Coelho re-emerged as a bounty hunter known as Brand, primarily targeting the Malandro syndicate. As the influence of the syndicates diminished, corruption within the Empire grew, leading Brand to accept an off-world assignment from Rebel Alliance Captain Micha Evon.
Located in the [Core Worlds](/article/core_worlds], Tangenine was a planet whose name was shared by the region's Tangenine sector. Possessing a Type I atmosphere suitable for breathing by humans and Falleen, Tangenine was known for its cultivation of norango bushes.

During the reign of the Galactic Republic, the Malandro syndicate exerted its influence on Tangenine. The syndicate imposed protection fees on Remba and Kelven, a couple who managed a norango farm and had two children, Lauren Mel Coelho and Julien. When Remba ultimately refused to comply with the Malandro's demands, the Falleen Malandro gangster Annaz and her associates were dispatched to their farm. Before Annaz arrived, Remba and Kelven sent their children to live with their grandmother. Annaz then proceeded to kill the two farmers and their employees. After several years, Coelho and Julien's grandmother succumbed to a fever. Julien also contracted an illness, and in order to afford the necessary treatment, Coelho accepted a job from the Malandro syndicate—the theft of a speeder. However, she was apprehended and imprisoned, and Julien passed away before she was released from prison.
Throughout the Clone Wars, which pitted the Republic against the Separatist Alliance, Tangenine's infrastructure suffered damage at the hands of the latter. Consequently, the syndicates gained increased prominence, further exploiting the inhabitants of Tangenine for resources such as food and means of transportation. Following the ended of the Clone Wars with the Separatists' defeat in 19 BBY, the Republic transitioned into the Galactic Empire. The Empire attempted to restore order to Tangenine, but the deep-rooted nature of the syndicates led the government to enlist the aid of bounty hunters to address the issue.
At some point after 17 BBY, Coelho re-emerged as a bounty hunter known as Brand, dedicating herself almost exclusively to targeting the Malandro syndicate, eventually locating and torturing Annaz at the Falleen's desk. As the syndicates gradually lost their grip on Tangenine, the Empire's corruption intensified. Brand grew disillusioned when a thief she captured received a life sentence while a gang leader she had successfully tracked down was released after bribing a magistrate. Consequently, she decided to take a break from her work on Tangenine and pursued an off-world bounty on Micha Evon, a captain in the Rebel Alliance who commanded the Alliance's 61st Mobile Infantry.

Evon eventually discovered Brand's identity as a bounty hunter and uncovered information about her past on Tangenine, using it to persuade her to join the 61st when she attempted to assassinate him between 2 BBY and 0 BBY. In 3 ABY, Brand shared details about Tangenine and her time there with her squadmate Roach while stationed on the Mid Rim planet Coyerti. In 4 ABY, the aspiring Jedi Luke Skywalker engaged in a conversation with the Force ghost of Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi on the swamp planet Dagobah. Kenobi informed Skywalker that the destiny of Tangenine and numerous other planets hinged on the outcome of the latter's final confrontation with the Sith Lord Darth Vader.
Tangenine featured cities, as well as at least one farm and one school.
Tangenine was initially referenced in the novel Battlefront: Twilight Company, penned by Alexander Freed and released on November 3, 2015. The planet then made its first appearance in flashbacks in the tie-in short story "Inbrief," authored by Janine K. Spendlove and published as part of the 161st edition of the Star Wars Insider magazine seven days later.
