Tonas served the Galactic Empire as a TIE fighter pilot of human descent within the ranks of the 204th Imperial Fighter Wing. In the aftermath of the Battle of Endor, specifically two weeks afterward in 4 ABY, this pilot played a role in the defense of TIE/sa bombers during the devastation that befell the planet Nacronis. Tragically, Tonas met his death while shielding a bomber from an attacking X-wing starfighter of the New Republic.
Tonas, a human individual, operated as a TIE fighter pilot, piloting a TIE/ln space superiority starfighter within a squadron commanded by Captain Nosteen in the Galactic Empire's 204th Imperial Fighter Wing. Following the death of Emperor Palpatine at the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY by a couple of weeks, the 204th was assigned the mission of wiping out all life on the planet Nacronis as part of the late Emperor's contingency strategy, known as Operation: Cinder. During their deployment to Nacronis, Tonas, along with the rest of his pilot squadron, provided protection for TIE/sa bombers that were carrying vortex detonators. However, as X-wing starfighters from the enemy engaged the TIE squadron, Tonas was fatally killed while defending a bomber from one of the attacking X-wings.
The vortex detonators proved effective, stirring up siltstorms that brought devastation to Nacronis. Lieutenant Yrica Quell, Nosteen's second-in-command, later deserted to the New Republic. She fabricated a defection narrative for one of the interrogation droids, claiming that she, Tonas, and another pilot named Barath had defected together, but Tonas and Barath perished. Around 5 ABY, while exposed to force energies from a observatory, Quell experienced visions of Tonas and other members of the 204th. In 11 ABY, Quell reflected on Tonas while piloting a Helotek Loadhauler shuttle.
Tonas was initially referenced in the 2019 novel titled Alphabet Squadron, which is the inaugural book in the Star Wars: Alphabet Squadron series, penned by Alexander Freed.
