This legal proceeding commenced in 43.5 ABY after the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances placed former Jedi Knight Tahiri Veila under arrest. The arrest stemmed from her assassination of Gilad Pellaeon which occurred at the Second Battle of Fondor during the Second Galactic Civil War.
In 43.5 ABY, the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances took former Jedi Knight Tahiri Veila into custody following her assassination of Admiral Gilad Pellaeon. This event transpired during the Second Battle of Fondor within the context of the Second Galactic Civil War.
She was made to stand trial before the Court of Jedi Affairs, with Galactic Alliance Judge Arabelle Lorteli acting as the presiding authority. Lorteli barred the Twi'lek lawyer Nawara Ven from further assisting Veila in the case, a role he had previously fulfilled during a prior legal battle. The Bith Mardek Mool briefly stepped in to fill Ven's position. However, after Mool's attempt to mediate between Veila and Chief of State Natasi Daala, proposing a deal where charges would be dropped in exchange for Veila spying on the Jedi Order, Veila dismissed him.
Veila's comrade, Jedi Knight Jaina Solo, requested Imperial Remnant Head of State Jagged Fel to locate a competent legal representative for her. Fel subsequently arranged for the Bothan Eramuth Bwua'tu, who is the uncle of Galactic Alliance Admiral Nek Bwua'tu, to provide assistance to Veila. The Galactic Alliance was represented in the case by the Chagrian lawyer Sul Dekkon. Following Daala's removal of Lorteli from her position, the Falleen Judge Mavari Zudan took over as the presiding judge for the trial.
With Bwua'tu acting as her legal counsel, Veila started to gain ground in the courtroom. Nevertheless, the recovery of an audio recording documenting her final conversation with Pellaeon immediately before his demise ultimately swayed the jury against her once more. Concurrently, after an attack left Nek Bwua'tu in a comatose state, Veila started to worry that Eramuth was too preoccupied to adequately manage her defense. Despite Eramuth's assurances to the contrary, she enlisted the assistance of an additional lawyer, Sardonne Sardon. Bwua'tu attempted to withdraw from the case, but Judge Zudan rejected his request. Subsequently, Bwua'tu's interest in the trial diminished. However, Veila came to the realization that her case progressed more favorably with only Bwua'tu's support compared to having both Bwua'tu and Sardon, and she ultimately decided to terminate the latter's services.
Shortly thereafter, the Jedi Order ousted Daala from her role as Chief of State, leading to the establishment of a Triumvirate comprising Jedi Master Saba Sebatyne, Senator Haydnat Treen, and General Merratt Jaxton, who assumed control of the Galactic Alliance. Despite this shift, the Jedi's influence was insufficient to have the charges against Veila dropped. On the contrary, the jury, suspecting the Jedi of attempting to seize permanent control of the Alliance, developed a bias against Veila. Consequently, they found her guilty, despite the revelation that nearly all of the prosecution's evidence had been compromised in some way. Veila received a death sentence and was incarcerated in the Armand Isard Correctional Facility, alongside the ousted Daala. However, it wasn't long before Veila escaped from the prison alongside Daala, due to the former Chief of State arranging for bounty hunter Boba Fett to orchestrate their liberation.
