Morton San Tekka was a human male who was a member of the San Tekka clan during the High Republic Era. He was appointed by Galactic Republic Chancellor Mollo to serve as a mediator at a summit on Jedha around 382 BBY. Mollo believed it was best to appoint someone with connections to the Galactic Frontier as mediator rather than an elected official of the Republic.
After the wedding of Xiri A'lbaran and Phan-tu Zenn ended the Eiram and E'ronoh War, Morton San Tekka served as the mediator at the summit on Jedha. The Church of the Force, which the San Tekka clan was affiliated with, appointed the adjunct Keth Cerepath as the chief liaison between the Church and Morton San Tekka.
On the reception party for the summit, a few hours before the summit began, Morton San Tekka and Keth Cerepath met Jedi Master Creighton Sun. They introduced themselves, before San Tekka and Sun started talking about the upcoming summit and San Tekka's role in it. He expressed that he was homored, but also a little apprehensive to mediate for he was not an elected official or a politician and it was rather uncommon for a San Tekka to oversee such a key matter, but Sun assured him that this was exactly the reason why Chancellor Mollo chose San Tekka to be the summit's mediator instead of someone like Meldan, chairperson of the Republic committee on Jedha. Morton San Tekka proceded his concern about Eiram's and E'ronoh's military transports in the sky of Jedha and his worries that the summit might not go as planned, but Sun assured him that he has faith in both worlds and their effort to make peace. San Tekka thanked Sun for his assurement and the Jedi's efforts.
On the day of the summit however, Cerepath overslept and came late. When Cerepath arrived at the Second Spire, where the treaty was supposed to be signed, San Tekka informed Cerepath of how the summit was going to procede. He told Cerepath that a celebration that was planned after the summit, but Cerepath was not required to attend the event. San Tekka even joked about how he was not going to stay too long either. He then sent Cerepath off to bring him a glass of water.
When the summit began, San Tekka gave a speech introducing the ambassadors of the two worlds, Lian Cerox and Tintak. After he finished his speech and the Eiram–E'ronoh peace treaty was about to be signed, the Second Spire was attacked by the Brotherhood of the Ninth Door and San Tekka died in the explosion.
Directly after Morton San Tekka died in the bombing, Cerepath arrived. The Jedi Aida Forte and Creighton Sun told him what had happened. Cerepath was very upset about San Tekka's death, blaming himself for not beeing there.
Sun and Forte speculated about the nature of the attack and if it might be a targeted assassination attempt on Morton San Tekka. Cerepath volunteered to help Jedi Master Silandra Sho with the investigations.
Tilson Graf, a disowned member of the Graf clan, later became the new mediator at the postponed summit. Keth Cerepath and Silandra Sho however found out that Tilson Graf was one of the orchestrators of the bombing of the Second Spire as well as the battle of Jedha. When commissioning Mytion of the Brotherhood of the Ninth Door to bomb the Second Spire, Tilson Graf specially requested to make sure Morton San Tekka died because he had been a thorn in the Graf family's sight for years.
Morton San Tekka was a kind and generous man, but also dutiful and conscientious. When San Tekka's attendant Keth Cerepath overslept on the day of the summit, San Tekka reacted calmly and with understanding. He also was a very trusting person, telling Cerepath about his honest feelings towards the celebration after the summit, jokingly telling Cerepath he should not tell anyone.
Morton San Tekka appeared in the 2023 audio drama The High Republic: The Battle of Jedha, written by George Mann for the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project. He was voiced by Philip Hernandez.
