Abrion Major

Abrion Major, an island-filled planet, stood as one of the numerous agriworlds within the Outer Rim Territories' Abrion sector. Not long after the Clone Wars began with the outbreak, Abrion Major, along with the rest of the Abrion sector, chose to secede from the Galactic Republic and join the Confederacy of Independent Systems, a decision spearheaded by Senator Esu Rotsino. Subsequently, Rotsino became the representative for Abrion Major and the Abrion sector's other planets in the Separatist Senate.

Around 22 BBY, Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi commanded the 212th Attack Battalion in an assault on Abrion Bridge. The purpose of this assault was to disrupt the Separatist efforts to produce a new Mega-ion cannon at a weapons factory. The Galactic Republic achieved victory in the assault, although they suffered significant casualties.

Description

Abrion Major was characterized as a terrestrial planet dotted with numerous islands.

Within the Abrion sector, itself situated in the Slice region of the Outer Rim Territories, lay Abrion Major, a terrestrial planet. As one of two hundred agriworlds in the sector, Abrion Major played a role in forming the Abrion sector's reputation as a galactic breadbasket. The primary export was foodstuffs shipped to the rest of the galaxy. Abrion Major featured an archipelago in the Western sea. A weapons factory under the control of the Confederacy of Independent Systems was located on the central island of this archipelago. The planet was orbited by one sun.

History

Seceding from the Republic

Before the Clone Wars ignited with the outbreak, Esu Rotsino served as the senator for the entire Abrion sector, representing both her homeworld and the sector within the Galactic Republic Senate. Around 22 BBY, soon after the Republic initiated conflict with the opposing Confederacy of Independent Systems, Rotsino identified the Republic's restrictive bureaucratic processes and unfair trade practices. Under her leadership, the Abrion sector tendered the formal articles of secession, withdrawing from the Republic to join the Confederacy. This granted her a seat in the Separatist Senate as the representative for Abrion Major and the entire sector. Consequently, Abrion Major became a critical location for the Separatist war effort in the region, particularly in their offensives along the Corellian Run within the Trailing Sectors. The Separatists also aimed to provoke food shortages in several Republic sectors, leveraging Abrion Major's and the Abrion sector's status as a galactic breadbasket.

Battle of Abrion Bridge

The battle resulted in substantial losses for the Republic forces.

Before the destruction of Rishi Station, the Galactic Republic obtained intelligence concerning the Separatist production of a new Mega-ion cannon at a weapons factory located on Abrion Major. The only access to the factory was via the Abrion Bridge. Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi and the 212th Attack Battalion volunteered to lead the assault. Commander Mekedrix, Lieutenant Oron, and his company joined the battalion.

The Republic deployed multiple Low Altitude Assault Transports to the bridge, but they faced intense fire from the factory's defenses. Despite incurring heavy casualties, the Clone troopers and Republic forces successfully landed on the bridge, only to encounter fierce Separatist resistance. Mekedrix's company breached the defenses and was nearing the factory. Despite these challenges, Kenobi's forces managed to reach the factory and acquire the plans for the ion cannon. However, during the Republic's retreat, they were confronted by IG-series assassin droid units and IG-227 Hailfire-class droid tanks that had been held back until the Republic forces were trapped on the bridge. Despite the impending arrival of Republic bombers to destroy the bridge, Kenobi refused to abandon his men. Unfortunately, he could not rescue many of them, resulting in numerous casualties on the bridge.

Behind the scenes

Abrion Major's initial mention in the new Star Wars canon occurred in Rise of the Separatists, a 2019 supplement to Fantasy Flight Games' Star Wars Roleplaying series. Within Star Wars Legends, Abrion Major was first referenced in HoloNet News Vol. 531 #52, an in-universe edition of the HoloNet News penned by Pablo Hidalgo and Paul Ens, which was published on the HoloNet News website on April 18, 2002.
