Allegiance

During the Galactic Civil War, the Allegiance functioned as a Quasar Fire-class cruiser-carrier under the banner of the Galactic Empire. Beginning in 4 ABY, it was integrated into the Empire's 204th Imperial Fighter Wing alongside a pair of other cruiser-carriers. Following a devastating attack by the New Republic targeting the 204th's base within the Pandem Nai system, the Allegiance, along with the Quasar Fire-class cruiser carrier Aerie, managed to evacuate a significant portion of the fighter wing's personnel.

In 5 ABY, the Allegiance played a supporting role in the 204th's mission on the planet Jarbanov, retrieving the 204th's Squadron Four from the far side of Jarbanov's moon before jumping to hyperspace. Soon thereafter, the 204th captured the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer Edict from the New Republic while in the Pormthulis system. To restore the Star Destroyer's ability to travel through hyperspace, the Allegiance was sacrificed, ultimately being dismantled so its components could be used before the fighter wing departed the system.

Description

The Allegiance was a Quasar Fire-class cruiser-carrier, specifically a light carrier and cruiser produced by the SoroSuub Corporation capable of deploying starfighters. This cruiser-carrier was also outfitted with a hyperdrive.

History

Service

The Allegiance saw action in the Galactic Empire's navy during the Galactic Civil War. In 4 ABY, Colonel Shakara Nuress acquired it, along with two other Quasar Fire-class cruiser-carriers, after her unit, the 204th Imperial Fighter Wing of the Empire, seized control of the planet Pandem Nai, establishing it as their operational headquarters. These cruiser-carriers then served to transport select TIE squadrons belonging to the 204th, enabling them to execute missions aimed at disrupting the New Republic's reconnaissance operations. However, the 204th's base was soon attacked by a battle group from the New Republic. The Allegiance and the Quasar Fire-class cruiser-carrier Aerie were compelled to evacuate the system, carrying a large number of the 204th's personnel, after the fighter wing sustained significant losses, including Nuress.

Following the events at Pandem Nai, Major Soran Keize, a special advisor, took command of the 204th. In 5 ABY, the fighter wing journeyed to Jarbanov, a desolate world housing a colony that processed scrap from the planet's orbitting junk rings. While the Aerie was busy salvaging materials from the junk rings, the 204th's Squadron Four launched an attack against the colony. Simultaneously, the Allegiance was positioned on the far side of Jarbanov's moon, awaiting the squadron. As planned, Squadron Four linked up with the cruiser-carrier, which then immediately jumped into hyperspace. Subsequently, Rogart Styll, the Allegiance's captain, attended a meeting with Keize, the six squadron commanders of the 204th, and the acting commander of the Aerie to discuss the mission's results and determine the fighter wing's subsequent actions.

Shortly thereafter, the 204th managed to capture the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer Edict from New Republic forces in the Pormthulis system. Given that the Edict lacked a functional hyperdrive and the resources needed for its repair, Keize made the decision to sacrifice the Allegiance to meet this need. The decision was unquestioned, and the cruiser-carrier's engine was disabled and its components were removed to repair the Edict. These parts were then transported through the zero-gravity corridors and out of the vessel via the hangar, eventually reaching the Star Destroyer's maw. Within six hours, the repairs were complete, and Keize instructed Squadron Three of the 204th to dismantle the Allegiance completely. Styll voiced his objection to the destruction of his cruiser-carrier, but his feelings were disregarded.

Legacy

Following the Allegiance's destruction, the Edict and Aerie jumped to hyperspace from the Pormthulis system. Styll, having lost his cruiser-carrier, was then placed in command of the Edict. Keize organized a celebration to welcome the remaining crew of the Edict into the 204th, which ultimately included him and the crews of the Allegiance, Edict and Aerie. The major then suggested that the crewmembers share stories about the Allegiance and Andara, an astronomical object that had reportedly shifted from Imperial to New Republic control. One of the former crew members of the Allegiance recounted a tale of repairing a power conduit during the attack on Pandem Nai.

Soon after, Keize proposed a new mission to the squadron commanders and senior staff of the Aerie and Edict: to intervene in the New Republic's invasion of the Cerberon system. The mission was approved, and the 204th attacked the forces of the New Republic there, where the Edict and Aerie were ultimately lost.

Behind the scenes

The Allegiance received its first mention, albeit indirectly, in the 2019 novel Alphabet Squadron, penned by Alexander Freed as the initial installment in his Star Wars: Alphabet Squadron trilogy. It was later directly mentioned in the 2020 novel Shadow Fall, also written by Alexander Freed.
