Amban phase-pulse blaster

The Amban phase-pulse blaster, alternatively referred to as an Amban sniper rifle, represented a specific model of disruptor sniper rifle carried by the Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin. This weapon possessed the capability to both electrocute adversaries and completely vaporize targets. Furthermore, it could eavesdrop on conversations from a considerable distance, at least across a house. Throughout his career as a bounty hunter, Djarin skillfully employed this lethal weapon to achieve significant results.

Description

The power cell port on an Amban snipe rifle

Produced by the Amban Arms Corporation, the Amban phase-pulse blaster was essentially a customized sniper rifle characterized by its extended barrel and a brown stock. The weapon featured a fork-shaped resonator at its tip, along with a precisely calibrated visual scope. It was capable of delivering a paralyzing electrical discharge at close quarters, while at longer ranges, it could disintegrate organic material upon impact.

This particular firearm was designed to discharge an electrical shock ranging from 50,000 to 500,000 volts. This was generally enough to incapacitate most species. However, when utilized against larger creatures, the stun feature only provided a minor, painful annoyance, similar to a sharp pinch. When set to its highest power level, a single shot would send a wave of ionic energy through the target's vital systems. Contact with living tissue caused the molecules to vibrate so intensely that the resulting jolt and energy release would tear the target apart.

The target of an Amban phase-pulse blaster would be disintegrated (a Trandoshan falls to Din Djarin's Amban, pictured).

Often, only a scattering of sparks, scorched flesh, and tattered clothing remained, rendering the identification of victims extremely difficult. Consequently, bounty hunters typically reserved the rifle's maximum setting for situations of last resort when pursuing fugitives, as claiming a successful capture required, at the very least, the intact head of their target as proof.

History

From Pagodon to Nevarro

During 9 ABY, the bounty hunter Din Djarin deployed this rifle across various missions. On his journey to collect the bounty on the Mythrol located on the planet Pagodon, he used the taser function against a Ravinak that was attacking his ship, the Razor Crest.

Djarin aims his Amban phase-pulse rifle

After being commissioned by the Client to secure an asset referred to as Grogu on the planet Arvala-7, Djarin utilized it as a surveillance scope upon his arrival. He later employed the rifle in combat against several Trandoshan bounty hunters who sought to claim the bounty on him. After discovering that Jawas had dismantled his ship for spare parts, he fired upon them from a distance, disintegrating several members of their group. When Djarin was compelled to retrieve a mudhorn egg in exchange for the necessary parts to repair his ship, his disruptor rifle became covered in mud, rendering it ineffective against the massive creature.

Before he rescued Grogu, Djarin used his pulse rifle to eavesdrop on a conversation between the Client and Dr. Pershing. Djarin later used the weapon's taser function on an Imperial remnant stormtrooper during the rescue of Grogu from their compound. However, after defying the Client, Greef Karga and members of the Bounty Hunters' Guild pursued him, ambushing him in the middle of the street. When Djarin was trapped, several hunters advanced on him, but Djarin used the weapon to disintegrate several of them, forcing the survivors to seek cover. Djarin continued to fire before escaping with assistance from the Tribe.

Djarin's continued adventures

Over the course of his journey with Grogu, Din Djarin continued to make use of his Amban phase-pulse blaster until its destruction.

While defending a human tribe's village on Sorgan, Djarin employed the weapon against an invading Klatooinian tribe. When the Klatooinian AT-ST Raider failed to trigger their trap, he entrusted the rifle to his new ally, the former shock trooper Carasynthia Dune, who then entered the pond and fired at the walker to lure it into their trap.

Djarin also used the taser function of the weapon to electrocute the inner workings of a krayt dragon, successfully forcing it to open its mouth after it had swallowed Djarin, allowing his escape from the beast's stomach.

The scouting scope was used by Djarin in the forests of Corvus as he searched for Ahsoka Tano.

The rifle was onboard the Razor Crest on Tython when Djarin took Grogu to an ancient stone temple of the Jedi. During a subsequent confrontation with Moff Gideon's remnant Imperial forces, Gideon targeted and destroyed Djarin's ship using an orbital laser strike from his light cruiser, resulting in the destruction of both the ship and the rifle.

Cold War era

By the time of the Cold War, it was known that a rifle had come into the possession of Dok-Ondar and was displayed alongside a Mandalorian helmet in Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities.

Behind the scenes

The Amban rifle first originated in The Star Wars Holiday Special.

The Amban sniper rifle made its debut appearance in Chapter 1 of the 2019 Disney+ television series, The Mandalorian, which was broadcast on November 12, 2019. Nevertheless, its design can be traced back to the weapon wielded by Boba Fett in the animated segment of 1978's The Star Wars Holiday Special. This was the inaugural Star Wars television production, and also the first time Mandalorian armor was shown. The initial appearance in The Mandalorian is a tribute to the Holiday Special, as it is used to fend off a subterranean creature (a ravinak in The Mandalorian versus a Panna dragon in the Holiday Special) that attempts to consume a starship carrying the protagonists.
