Beezer Fortuna

Beezer Fortuna existed during the Age of the Empire and was a male Twi'lek. As a cousin to Bib Fortuna, Fortuna joined the Partisans under the leadership of Saw Gerrera. He found himself on Jedha when Jedha City faced its Destruction of at that time.

Biography

Hailing from the Twi'lek species' homeworld of Ryloth, Beezer Fortuna was a male Twi'lek and a member of the Fortuna clan. This family held significant power and maintained connections with the criminal elements throughout the galaxy. Beezer Fortuna's appearance distinguished him from other Twi'leks, characterized by his shriveled, dried lekku and relatively small pupils. He was also related to Bib Fortuna, who served as the majordomo for the Hutt crime lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure on the isolated desert world of Tatooine. Unlike his family, Fortuna harbored a deep disdain for their ties to the criminal world and was regarded as the most politically inclined member of the clan.

During the Clone Wars, Fortuna experienced the Confederacy of Independent Systems' occupation of Ryloth and its subsequent liberation by the combined forces of the Grand Army of the Republic, the Jedi Order, and Twi'lek freedom fighters under Cham Syndulla's leadership. Inspired by these events, Fortuna became a subversive figure in the Twi'lek capital city of Lessu. Following the war, the Galactic Empire arrived on Ryloth, and Fortuna resisted the Imperial occupation. He was apprehended by the Empire along with other subversives in Lessu. However, Saw Gerrera's Partisans freed him and his comrades in a raid, leading Fortuna to pledge his allegiance to Saw and fight against the Empire, rejecting his clan's pursuit of underworld profits.

Approximately six months prior to the Destruction of Jedha City, Fortuna played a role in recruiting Chirrut Îmwe and Baze Malbus into the Partisans. This alliance proved to be short-lived. Just before Baze and Chirrut prepared to evacuate orphans from Jedha aboard a Sentinel-class ship, Fortuna, accompanied by two other Partisans, attempted to seize the ship for their own purposes. Their plan was to crash it into the Star Destroyer hovering above Jedha, hoping to destroy the Star Destroyer and deliver a powerful message to the Empire. Îmwe and Malbus successfully reclaimed the ship, convincing Fortuna and his companions that denying the orphans' escape would reflect poorly on Gerrera. This incident severed all communication between Îmwe and Malbus and Gerrera's Partisans.

Beezer Fortuna was based in the Catacombs of Cadera.

By 0 BBY, Fortuna was aiding Gerrera in operational planning, acting as one of his key strategists within the Catacombs of Cadera near Jedha City on Jedha. He was among those who intercepted Bodhi Rook, an Imperial pilot who had defected from the Empire and carried a message recorded by Galen Erso on Eadu. Fortuna and his comrades aimed their weapons at Rook, but Rook persuaded them to bring him before Gerrera. They escorted him to Benthic, who then presented Rook to Gerrera.

Following a skirmish between the Partisans and Imperial forces in Jedha City, Cassian Andor, an agent of the Rebel Alliance, along with his allies Jyn Erso, Malbus, and Îmwe, were captured by Gerrera's cell after Andor killed one of his Partisans. Upon their arrival in the catacombs, Fortuna was engaged in a conversation with a fellow Partisan at a dejarik table within the base. Shortly thereafter, the Empire conducted a test-firing of its Death Star superweapon, and its superlaser obliterated Jedha City. The single-reactor ignition led to a shock wave of debris that overwhelmed the Partisan base.

Personality and traits

Beezer Fortuna, a Twi'lek male with pale skin, possessed a lean build and thin, shriveled lekku. He had intense blue eyes and prominent, sharp features. As a member of Saw Gerrera's Partisans, Fortuna wore dark robes and wielded an electro-prod staff.

Behind the scenes

The character of Beezer Fortuna is inspired by early maquette sculptures for Bib Fortuna created during pre-production. The production team nicknamed the character "Cousin Bib," a detail that Pablo Hidalgo incorporated into his backstory while writing Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide. His name originates from early draft scripts of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, where Bib Fortuna was referred to as "High Beezer of Hoth."
