Caitken

Caitken, a Mon Calamari, served as an aide to Admiral Raddus within the Alliance to Restore the Republic, alongside his fellow Mon Calamari, Shollan. The three of them were present in 1 BBY at a meeting concerning the potential authorization by the Alliance High Command of an attack on the planet Scarif. The goal of this attack was to pilfer the plans for the Galactic Empire's rumored superweapon, known as the Death Star. When a rogue group of rebels proceeded with the mission, Caitken, Shollan, and Raddus boarded Raddus's flagship, the Profundity, to support the group at Scarif.

During the subsequent conflict, Raddus instructed Caitken to contact a Hammerhead corvette to eliminate the Shield Gate protecting Scarif. Once the gate was destroyed, the plans were transmitted to the Profundity just as the Death Star materialized above Scarif. As the admiral commanded the Alliance Fleet to retreat, the Profundity was crippled and obliterated by a Star Destroyer, resulting in the death of most of its crew.

Originating from the cooler regions of the oceanic Mon Cala, Caitken, together with his Mon Calamari colleague Shollan, worked as an aide for Admiral Raddus of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Sometime between 4 BBY and 3 BBY, he and Shollan compiled a report for Raddus detailing the condition of the Alliance Fleet's vessels, which Raddus then passed on to Mon Mothma, the Commander-in-Chief. In 1 BBY, Caitken stood beside Raddus during a meeting at the Alliance headquarters on the moon Yavin 4. The Alliance High Command was there to discuss information provided by the recently recruited rebel Jyn Erso. Erso reported that the Galactic Empire was constructing a planet destroyer known as the Death Star, and the only method to halt its completion was to retrieve the plans for the battle station, located on Scarif. However, due to a lack of complete support from the council, an official attack was not sanctioned.

Regardless, Erso and a number of other rebellious individuals intended to steal the plans from the Scarif system without formal authorization. With Shollan and Caitken at his side, Raddus was informed of these events and concurred with their course of action, instructing that his flagship, the MC75 Star Cruiser Profundity, be prepared for immediate departure. Shortly thereafter, the Alliance fleet engaged hyperspace to offer support to Erso and the other rebels at Scarif.

Battle of Scarif

Shollan, Raddus, and Caitken on the Profundity

Aboard the Profundity, Caitken and Shollan interacted with their computers as the rebel fleet emerged from hyperspace above Scarif. With Caitken positioned to Raddus's left and Shollan to his right, the admiral issued commands to each starfighter squadron regarding their operational directives. Later, amidst the heat of battle, Caitken alerted the admiral to the approaching swarms of enemy TIE/ln space superiority starfighters. As the TIEs targeted the Profundity, the aide reported that the flagship's deflector shields were taking significant damage and had fallen to fifty percent. Raddus responded that retreat was not an option and that they needed to maintain their offensive.

The Profundity then received a communication from the rebel Bodhi Rook on Scarif's surface, who explained that the only way to obtain the Death Star plans was to destroy the Shield Gate orbiting Scarif. Raddus turned to Caitken and instructed him to summon a Sphyrna-class Hammerhead corvette. The corvette Lightmaker successfully neutralized the Shield Gate by maneuvering two Imperial Star Destroyers into a collision course with the gate, resulting in its destruction and enabling the transmission of the plans to Raddus's Star Cruiser. The Death Star then appeared from hyperspace, and Shollan and Caitken rose to observe the superweapon as it unleashed its firepower upon the Imperial security complex below, where the rebel forces were stranded. After a moment of quiet, Raddus ordered all ships to jump to hyperspace; many ships successfully executed the jump, but the Profundity was disabled by a Star Destroyer and subsequently destroyed, causing the demise of Raddus and all his subordinates.

By 4 ABY, a copy of the report generated by Caitken and Shollan was collected by archivist Hendri Underholt for the creation of non-electronic documents known as The Rebel Files. In 34 ABY, The Rebel Files were uncovered during an excavation on the planet Durkteel. Admirals Gial Ackbar and Ushos O. Statura of the Resistance added their annotations to the report from Caitken and Shollan.

Personality and traits

Caitken found inspiration in Raddus's determination, and along with Shollan, he pledged his complete dedication. The three were driven by a strong desire to retaliate against the Empire for its actions against the Mon Calamari during the invasion of Mon Cala. Caitken was an albino Mon Calamari male, characterized by white skin and gray eyes. Because he came from the colder regions of Mon Cala, his blood was known for its exceptional thickness.

Skills and abilities

Caitken demonstrated efficiency in executing Raddus's directives. He possessed high intelligence and diplomatic skills, along with moderate strength, speed, and combat capabilities. He lacked Force-sensitivity.

Equipment

Caitken wore a dark, gray uniform featuring blue sleeves and a black belt.

Behind the scenes

Shollan and Caitken on the set of Rogue One

Caitken's creation was for the anthology film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which premiered on December 16, 2016. He was brought to life by puppeteer Aidan Cook. His initial identification occurred in Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide, a reference book accompanying the film and authored by Pablo Hidalgo. The first glimpse of Caitken in motion was within a reel of Rogue One footage unveiled at Celebration Europe on July 15 of that year. Caitken and Shollan's visual designs bore resemblance to Mon Calamari Admiral Gial Ackbar from the 1983 original trilogy film Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, though with a different coloration, while Raddus possessed a more distinctive appearance.

Caitken's card within The Topps Company's 2017 Topps Star Wars: Rogue One Series 2 set mistakenly used an image of Shollan. Moreover, the novelization of Rogue One by Alexander Freed incorrectly attributed Caitken's line, "Sir! Enemy fighters coming in!" to Shollan.
