Chokeroot

Chokeroot was a root vegetable suitable for consumption by humans, Artiodacs, and also Togrutas. This root was utilized as an ingredient in the preparation of mashed chokeroot, a dish that itself was a component of Fried Endorian Tip-Yip. One could find Chokeroot on Batuu and [Saleucami], which are both planets situated in the Outer Rim; it was also a familiar food item for families on certain worlds.

Strono Tuggs, an Artiodac chef, initially believed that chokeroot was inappropriate for his culinary creations. However, after discovering a particularly impressive recipe for mashed chokeroot while on Saleucami, he reconsidered his stance. This discovery led him to begin serving both mashed chokeroot and Fried Endorian Tip-Yip at his mobile diner, Tuggs' Grub, during its stay on Batuu.

Description

Chokeroot was an edible root vegetable that could be eaten by humans, Artiodacs, and Togrutas. Although it was a common food for families on some planets, the root itself was not particularly flavorful. However, when combined with spices and falumpaset cheese in the form of mashed chokeroot, it could develop a sweeter taste. Mashed chokeroot was used as an ingredient in the dish known as Fried Endorian Tip-Yip.

History

Mashed chokeroot was a dish that utilized chokeroot as an ingredient.

During the Galactic Civil War, specifically in 4 ABY, mashed chokeroot was served during a dinner held by the Taffral family at their Taffral house on Saleucami, a planet located within the Outer Rim. Later, in 34 ABY, Vi Moradi, a spy working for the Resistance, was served Fried Endorian Tip-Yip at Tuggs' Grub, the mobile diner, while it was located on the Outer Rim planet Batuu. In the same year, Julen Rakab, a farmer, and his companions Izal Garsea, a smuggler, and Neelo, a musician, also ate Fried Endorian Tip-Yip at the same establishment.

Strono Tuggs, the chef who operated Tuggs' Grub, initially considered chokeroot to be a bland ingredient unsuitable for his cooking, up until the time he stationed his restaurant at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo on Batuu. However, his opinion changed after visiting Saleucami and discovering a creamy mashed chokeroot recipe that he greatly admired. Consequently, Tuggs included the recipes for both mashed chokeroot and Fried Endorian Tip-Yip in his cookbook, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, which he wrote sometime after the Battle of Takodana in 34 ABY. Eloc Throno, an adventurer, mentioned mashed chokeroot as a component of Tuggs' recipe in his own book, Traveler's Guide to Batuu. Around the same period, Tuggs also included the mashed chokeroot recipe from his cookbook in a small recipe pamphlet designed to help visitors to Batuu learn more about the planet.

Behind the scenes

Chokeroot was first mentioned as an ingredient in the dish mashed chokeroot in Aftermath, a novel published in 2015 by Chuck Wendig. Mashed chokeroot is part of the entrée Fried Endorian Tip-Yip, both of which were initially offered to customers at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo, a restaurant located in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, a themed area that opened at Disneyland on May 31, 2019.

In Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, a 2019 cookbook by Chelsea Monroe-Cassel and Marc Sumerak, the real-world recipe uses parsnip, a root vegetable, as an ingredient in mashed chokeroot. The cookbook's Fried Endorian Tip-Yip recipe also suggests using mashed potatoes as a substitute for mashed chokeroot.
