Flob

A male human named Flob held a position in the Imperial Bureau of Standards, specifically within the bureaucratic record-keeping department. His workplace was the office situated on the planet of Coruscant. Back in 5 BBY, he engaged in a conversation with Syril Karn, a corpo who had fallen from grace. This interview was set up by Harlo, Karn's influential uncle. After listening to Karn's account of his professional downfall during the pursuit of the fugitive Cassian Andor, Flob extended a job offer, providing him with a chance to start anew.

Following Karn's use of his new position to further investigate Andor, Flob accompanied agents from the Imperial Security Bureau to Karn's workstation, leading him away for questioning. Subsequently, Karn made a return and was then given a promotion.

Biography

Granting a New Opportunity

Flob interviewed Syril Karn at the Bureau of Standards.

Flob was a corporate employee of human male origin working for the Galactic Empire's Imperial Bureau of Standards. His duties involved maintaining bureaucratic records related to topics like weights, gauges, redundancies, and verification. In 5 BBY, he conversed with the influential Harlo, who facilitated a job interview at the bureau for his nephew, the disgraced corpo Syril Karn. Flob then met Karn in the bureau's office on the planet Coruscant, the capital of the Empire.

While walking across an elevated walkway in a large warehouse-like office space, Flob described the different types of jobs available within the bureau. Looking down at his datapad, Flob paused when he saw information about Karn's time on Morlana One, the location of Karn's previous job before he oversaw a disastrous attempt to apprehend the fugitive Cassian Andor. Karn quickly explained that he had been trying to uphold the law and maintain public safety by pursuing Andor, who had killed two of Karn's colleagues. He added that corruption and laxity within the Corporate Sector Authority had led to his punishment.

Once Karn said that he planned to clear his name and have his record expunged, Flob smiled and offered to start the process by editing Karn's record before signing him in, noting that Harlo would likely approve. Flob then took Karn to an empty cubicle and offered him a fresh start, revealing that he could fill an immediate opening in Fuel Purity.

A Visit from the Imperial Security Bureau

Flob (left) escorted the ISB to Syril Karn's desk when they wanted to question him.

Karn accepted the mediocre office job and began working, but in less than a month he had drawn the attention of the Imperial Security Bureau after submitting six false reports in an attempt to further investigate Andor. When Attendants Corv and Heert of the Imperial Security Bureau arrived at the Bureau of Standards to bring Karn in for questioning, Flob accompanied the pair as they followed an MSE-6 series repair droid along the elevated walkway to Karn's cubicle.

Karn was then taken to the ISB Central Office for interrogation. After Karn proved useful to the ISB, Supervisor Dedra Meero informed the Bureau of Standards that he had been of use to the Empire and gave him a "clean bill of health," resulting in Karn's promotion. An image of Flob was included in the historian Beaumont Kin's book The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, which was published at some point after the Battle of Exegol in 35 ABY.

Personality and Traits

Flob helped Syril Karn find a fresh start on Coruscant.

During his conversation with Karn, Flob asserted that all positions within the Imperial Bureau of Standards were important, claiming that any long-term employee would agree with him, regardless of how much more interesting the Weights and Gauges sector might seem compared to Redundancy or Verification. After hearing Karn's story about Andor, the functionary quickly offered his assistance despite the former corpo's past failures, stating that he would hate to see Karn miss his chance at a new beginning. Flob had light skin and graying brown hair.

Equipment

While at the bureau, Flob wore a suit that included a dark gray jacket and matching pants over a light gray shirt, along with a black tie and black shoes. He used a datapad during his interview with Karn and wore a white and red information tag on the left lapel of his jacket.
