Gallo, hailing from Naboo, was a Gungan of the Ankura variety who lived around the time of 3000 BBY. He held the position of Boss in the city of Otoh Sancture. This changed when the city was destroyed during a war among the Gungan tribes. At the time, Gallo was away hunting nerfs to be used in the annual Sacred Feast. He later encountered Captain Marsune, a rogue, and exchanged his captured nerfs for glurrg laborers. Soon after, Gallo was informed by a militiagung, a Gungan warrior, that the destruction of Otoh Sancture was orchestrated by Boss Rogoe, a Gungan warlord who had masterminded the war.
Fueled by a desire for retribution, Gallo embarked on a mission to unite the Gungan tribes in the area against Rogoe and his militia. After rebuilding Otoh Sancture, Gallo and Marsune, who joined him on his quest, journeyed to the cities of Otoh Jahai, Otoh Langua, Otoh Urs, and Otoh Raban. There, they met with Bosses Tenko, Hantic, Copek, and Hoxie, respectively. Following the completion of tasks assigned by each Boss, the four agreed to support Gallo's cause. Gallo gathered his forces and, with the assistance of bongo submarines obtained from the Gungan manufacturer Bongomeken Collective, attacked Rogoe's city of Spearhead. With the city and Rogoe's keep obliterated, Gallo established a new city in its place, which he named Otoh Gunga. Gallo was a distant forefather to Boss Rugor Nass, who lived during the later years of the Galactic Republic.
Around 3000 BBY, Gallo, an Ankura Gungan, lived. Before the war between the Gungan tribes in 3000 BBY, he became the Boss of the Gungan settlement Otoh Sancture. During the war, Gallo chose not to participate in the fighting, which led some Gungans to speculate about whose side he would take if he ever decided to fight. Boss Rogoe, the warlord who initiated the war, was particularly concerned due to Boss Gallo's significant wealth.

In accordance with Gungan tradition, Gallo, as the Boss, ventured out to gather animals for Otoh Sancture's Sacred Feast, using a kaadu, a local bipedal creature, for transportation. While Gallo was hunting for nerfs, Otoh Sancture was attacked by a clan of bursas, four-legged semi-sentient beasts. Gallo returned to find the settlement in ruins and its inhabitants dead. He then headed north, just past a river, where he encountered Captain Marsune at a small base. Gallo traded the nerfs he had captured to Marsune for four non-sentient glurrg laborers. Gallo, accompanied by the workers, set out to find a suitable location to rebuild Otoh Sancture.
During his journey, Gallo encountered a militiagung, a Gungan warrior, who revealed that the bursas responsible for the destruction of his village were sent by Boss Rogoe. Gallo vowed to avenge his people and began rebuilding his settlement in an area rich in nova crystals, ore, food, and trees, all of which were essential resources, with trees serving as a source of carbon. After rebuilding Otoh Sancture and forming a small militia, he eliminated the bursas that had ravaged the village, as they had established nests in the ruins. After Gallo had finished slaughtering the bursas, Marsune appeared, declaring his desire to see Rogoe fall, and thus joined Gallo on his journey.

Gallo then embarked on a quest to unite the Gungan tribes against Rogoe. First, he visited the city of Otoh Jahai and consulted with Boss Tenko, who informed Gallo that the city of Otoh Langua had stolen their Sacred Staff. Tenko offered Gallo a deal: if Gallo returned the staff, he would contribute some men to Gallo's cause. Upon Gallo's arrival in Otoh Langua, Boss Hantic claimed they did not possess the staff but instead promised that if Gallo provided him with a thousand nova crystals, he would join the fight. Marsune informed Gallo that he had heard rumors of a hidden spaceport that might have the nova they needed. After departing Otoh Langua, they encountered two paths: one was guarded by Rogoe's army, and the other was clear. Gallo and his small group defeated Rogoe's forces and recovered the Sacred Staff of Otoh Jahai. They then retraced their steps in search of the rumored spaceport. Off to the side of the road, they discovered a small path leading into the woods, which they followed, leading to the discovery of the rumored spaceport guarded by Rogoe's men. They eliminated the opposition and destroyed the spaceport, obtaining a thousand nova crystals in the process.
After returning to Otoh Langua and handing the nova to Boss Hantic, Gallo received four Kaadu Cavalry. Next, he headed to Otoh Jahai and returned the staff to Boss Tenko, who provided him with four heavy troopers. Gallo then set out for Otoh Urs. Upon Gallo's arrival, Boss Copek instructed them to eliminate the nearby bursa clan to convince him to join. After Gallo and his forces destroyed the bursas, Copek gave Gallo four catapults. Gallo immediately led his men to Otoh Raban, only to find that Boss Hoxie had been kidnapped. The workers there told Gallo that if he rescued the Boss, they would join his cause. Gallo and his militiagungs set out to find Rogoe's stronghold, where Hoxie was being held. Upon their arrival, a battle erupted, and the prisoners inside the facilities rioted, providing Gallo with more troops. Gallo successfully rescued Hoxie, and his efforts were rewarded with four repeater troopers.

With the newly formed Gungan Grand Army, Gallo marched on the city of Spearhead to eliminate Rogoe and defeat the remaining resistance to Gungan unification.
Along the way, Gallo encountered a bursa clan with an injured leader. After healing the bursa leader, Gallo received some bursas to assist in the attack on Spearhead.
Because Rogoe's keep was underwater and surrounded by Spearhead, Marsune went to the base of the Gungan manufacturing company Bongomeken Collective to acquire submarines known as bongos for use in attacking the keep. Upon the construction of Gallo's navy, the battle commenced. The united tribes suffered significant losses, but ultimately succeeded in killing Rogoe and destroying Spearhead. After the battle subsided, Gallo founded the city of Otoh Gunga in the ruins of Spearhead.
The story of Gallo's unification of the Gungan tribes was recounted by his distant descendant Boss Rugor Nass, who aspired to embody Gallo's leadership and courage, sometime during the later years of the Galactic Republic. The city of Otoh Gunga became the capital of the now-unified Gungan civilization and a major center for commerce and other Gungan-related affairs. A game titled Marsune and Gallo retold the story of the two Gungans uniting the tribes and was enjoyed by many Gungan children. He was remembered as a hero by generations of Gungans. The initial foundations of Otoh Gunga laid by Gallo came to be known as the Ancient Quarter, where Gungan machinery, buildings and other objects of historical significance were preserved.
Gallo was a resolute and committed leader of his village. He deeply mourned the loss of his people and vowed to avenge them at any cost. He was a skilled military commander, as he successfully defeated Rogoe. He was also a talented diplomat, having persuaded all the tribes to set aside their differences and unite under a common goal. He strongly opposed Gungans fighting each other, even deeming it immoral according to the gods. Consequently, he strived to avoid Gungan warfare whenever possible. Gallo was a wealthy and influential Boss, primarily due to his city of Otoh Sancture being a hub of trade, commerce, gossip, and spying. Gallo's power and prestige made him a source of fear for the tyrannical Boss Rogoe, who worried whether Gallo would eventually side with his enemies. Gallo was an Ankura Gungan with green skin, a large build, and long ears.
Gallo was created for the 2001 LucasArts video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, which was released on November 11, 2001. Before the game's release, Gallo was mentioned in an online chat session with game director Garry M. Gaber in response to a question about the timeline of the game's storyline. The transcript of that chat was posted to the LucasArts website on June 28, 2001. Players control Gallo in the first three missions of the Gungan campaigns, and Gallo's survival is required in each mission for the player to progress. Level designer Stephen J. McManus initially designed the campaigns to feature Gallo fighting against oppression from the Human Naboo, but he was informed that, according to existing continuity, the two species had not fought against each other. Following discussions with Gaber and fellow designer Reed Knight, McManus developed the concept of a war between the Gungans, a change that he believed improved the campaign due to the more personal involvement of its protagonist.
During the briefings before each mission in Galactic Battlegrounds, Gallo is depicted using gray-toned still shots of Rugor Nass from the 1999 prequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. Boss Gallo shares his name with the gallo fish, and many Gungan families were named after the fish. There was also a mountain range called the Gallo Mountains on Naboo.
The objectives in each of Gallo's missions do not have a strictly enforced timeline and can be completed in any order which the player chooses. This article is written according to the order of towns Gallo passes through as he travels from one end of the road to the other, completing the objective given in each town directly after it is given. The alliance with the bursas in the third level of the campaign, "Raid on Spearhead," is optional for the player.
