Gumar Adraki

Gumar Adraki was a resident of the Andraven village, located on the planet named Andraven. Back in 232 BBY, when the time arrived to migrate the wellagrin creatures from one side of a mountain to the other, he and his companion Jam were accompanied by three Jedi younglings: specifically, Kai Brightstar, Lys Solay, and Nubs. As they carried out their task, Solay inadvertently triggered a wellagrin stampede and a resulting avalanche, which separated the creatures. The Jedi and the villagers then divided their forces to reunite the wellagrins, which they accomplished successfully, eventually reaching the mountain's peak. Following yet another avalanche, the group of five managed to navigate the falling snow by riding on the backs of the wellagrins, ultimately arriving at the orchard where they had intended to bring the creatures.

At a later point, Adraki was responsible for overseeing the annual wellagrin hatching event, which the Jedi returned to Andraven to observe. The event faced disruption and was nearly ruined by the businessman Raxlo, whose harvester caused snow to melt near the eggs. Adraki, along with the Jedi, managed to halt the device, thereby saving the baby wellagrins. Later that same year, with the assistance of his Jedi friends, Adraki successfully completed the Ancestors Circuit, an Andraven tradition involving a series of challenges that every member of his family had previously completed. He made extensive preparations, but unforeseen challenges forced him to improvise, which he managed to do effectively.

Biography

Migration time

Gumar Adraki was a male Andraven individual living during the High Republic Era on the snow planet called Andraven. He had a father. In the year 232 BBY, three Jedi younglingsKai Brightstar, a human; Lys Solay, a Pantoran; and Nubs, a Pooba—visited Andraven during the migration of the wellagrin creatures native to the planet. After the Jedi spent some time interacting with the herd, learning how to ride the creatures, Adraki and his younger friend, Jam, were impressed and commended Solay for her rapid learning. Their master, Jedi Master Zia Zanna, then communicated to them via hologram that they were to accompany the wellagrins during their migration. Adraki explained that the migration was necessary to provide the creatures with greater access to food. The wellagrin trainer, Varna, warned them about the dangers of avalanches, but Adraki reassured the younglings that they would be safe if they stayed with him and Jam.

Adraki was an effective flute player.

Subsequently, the villagers, Jedi, and wellagrins commenced their journey. Adraki pointed out that the creatures enjoyed exploring and swimming together. However, a pair of wellagrins broke away from the herd and headed toward a cliff. Solay expressed her concern, but Adraki instructed her to observe and then played an Andraven flute, which successfully drew the runaway wellagrins back to the group. He explained that they used the flutes to signal the wellagrins about the direction they should swim. Jam then attempted to play the flute as well, but he was unable to produce the same sounds as Adraki. The younger villager then provided flutes to each of the Jedi for them to try. Brightstar went first, but the sound he produced was, in his opinion, reminiscent of a sick bantha, a creature that originated on the planet Tatooine. Adraki acknowledged the difficulty of playing the Andraven flute, encouraging Brightstar and assuring him that he would improve with practice.

Well, well, wellagrins…

Solay then noticed that one of the wellagrins, named Snowball, was veering off the trail and up a slope. Adraki voiced his worry, so Solay attempted to signal Snowball using a flute. However, her inexperienced playing caused everyone to wince and triggered a stampede among the wellagrins, resulting in an avalanche. Adraki told the group that they needed to reach higher ground, assuring a concerned Solay that the wellagrins were capable of swimming through the snow and would be unharmed. The three Jedi and two villagers managed to climb onto a higher rock, where they waited for the avalanche to subside. Once it was over, Adraki ensured that everyone had made it through safely.

Upon returning to the trail, Solay expressed her regret at losing the wellagrins, blaming herself for thinking she could play the flute as well as Adraki. Nubs suggested that Adraki play the flute again, but he informed the Pooba that they were too far away for the wellagrins to hear it. Instead, they decided to split up in order to locate the herd. Adraki and Solay together found a wellagrin that was entangled in foliage. The Pantoran initially approached the creature directly, but it resisted. She then tried again, this time kneeling down and speaking gently to the wellagrin. The creature relaxed, allowing the Jedi to free it from the bushes. Adraki was impressed by Solay's skill and affection for animals.

In a jam

Brightstar then contacted the pair via holo, requesting their assistance. He and Nubs were attempting to move a wellagrin that was not moving, which Adraki, with a laugh, said would not budge. Solay noticed berries in a nearby tree, so she jumped up and grabbed a snack to entice the creature to move. Soon, the group had gathered the entire herd and reached the top of the mountain as fresh snow began to fall. Adraki, noticing this, reiterated the importance of reaching the orchard before nightfall. However, Solay then realized that Jam was missing. The four called out for him, but the heavy snowfall made it impossible to see anything.

Solay became overwhelmed by the stress of the mission, but Nubs reminded her of Master Zanna's advice to take a breath, focus, and trust in the Force. After the three Jedi completed the exercise, Solay decided to play her flute in the hope that Jam would hear it and respond by playing his flute, guiding the group to his location. Adraki and the others looked up expectantly, and eventually, the sound of a flute came in response. The group linked together and found Jam, who ran to embrace Adraki. However, their sprinting caused the ice beneath them to crack, triggering another avalanche. Adraki, Jam, and the Jedi slid down alongside the swimming wellagrins—Solay jumped onto the back of the nearest wellagrin and suggested that the others do the same. Brightstar, Nubs, and Adraki were able to do so, and Adraki attempted to pull Jam onto his wellagrin, but the child's hand slipped away.

Jam continued sliding down and managed to join Solay on her mount. The group, along with the wellagrins, successfully glided into the orchard, completing their mission. That night, while gathered around a heater, Solay recounted the day's adventures to Zanna. A snowball fight then erupted, with the kids laughing throughout.

Adraki, Jam, and Varna later visited the Jedi's planet of Tenoo for Kublop Springs, a settlement's Visitor's Day celebration, which drew visitors from across the galaxy. They were part of the audience when Solay revealed the sculpture that the town had created for the day.

Wellagrin from ear to ear

Adraki frets about the warming eggs.

The Jedi made a return trip to Andraven to witness the hatching of the baby wellagrins. Nubs was playing with the adult wellagrins in their enclosure, and Adraki, Jam, and the other Jedi cheered him on as he skillfully rode a wellagrin through the snow. Adraki expressed his excitement for their visit and for that year's hatching in particular, as he was responsible for caring for the eggs. He had been checking on them daily to ensure they remained in the cold snow. The group, except for Jam, mounted wellagrins and rode up the nearby mountain to reach the hatching ground, but they found it unusually warm upon arrival, with some of the snow melting.

They quickly approached the eggs, which they discovered were exposed and without any snow nearby. Adraki was hesitant to move the eggs, fearing it would confuse the adult wellagrins, but he was concerned that the warmer temperatures would cause problems with the hatching. They then heard a strange noise and investigated, discovering the businessman Raxlo using his harvester's laser to cut through the snow. Brightstar confronted him to stop, and Raxlo paused the machine, revealing his plan to harvest valuable Tenga rocks from Andraven. Adraki and Brightstar reprimanded Raxlo for choosing that location, but he remained unconvinced and deployed several security droids to keep the Jedi and Adraki out of his way.

Go Adraki

Despite being armed with lightsabers, the Jedi were unable to defend themselves against the small droids and were encircled and trapped. The droids marched them to a small clearing beneath a cliff, where Adraki suggested that they dump snow on top of their captors to escape. The Jedi used the Force to push the snow down, burying the droids. The group then sprinted back to the harvester, where Raxlo had left the back door open, and they entered. They snuck into the cockpit and crawled around, searching for a button to turn off the laser. Brightstar pressed a button on Raxlo's chair, but it only activated music and woke up the businessman.

Adraki excitedly holds the newborn wellagrin.

The younglings sheepishly greeted him. Raxlo began to lecture them about recklessly pushing buttons and continued to refuse to stop his harvester, so Nubs retaliated by flicking several switches. In the ensuing chaos, more buttons and levers were pushed, and the laser aimed directly at a mountain, causing a large avalanche to rush toward them. The harvester plummeted downward with the snow and had its laser torn off in the crash. It came to a stop near the eggs, which were now covered in snow. Once the passengers of the harvester regained their composure, Adraki realized that the eggs had been saved. In fact, an egg that had rolled up to the cockpit hatched in front of them, so the Jedi and Adraki ran outside to greet it.

Adraki thanked the Jedi for their assistance, and he and Brightstar went to comfort a gloomy Raxlo. They reminded him that he could not harvest wherever he pleased, but Adraki offered to show him areas where he could harvest without interfering with the wellagrins. Jam, Varna, and the adult wellagrins then arrived, just in time to witness the rest of the babies hatching. Later, Adraki and the group accompanied Raxlo to his new and more productive dig site, where the businessman thanked Adraki for his help and apologized for his earlier misconduct.

Short circuit

Later that year, the time arrived for Adraki to complete the Ancestors Circuit, an Andraven tradition that honored the ancestors who had first settled the world. He planned extensively, researching and preparing strategies that he stored on his datapad. The Jedi younglings joined him, as the tradition allowed friends to offer assistance. Upon the Jedi's arrival, Adraki explained the history and significance of the event. His father then joined them, bringing the sled and wellagrins they would use for transportation. He was nearly late, which had caused his son some stress. He tried to calm Gumar down, explaining that unexpected challenges were a normal part of the circuit, but Gumar was focused on being prepared and continuing the family tradition of completing it.

Gumar is excited about his sled.

He and the Jedi admired the intricately carved sled, which had been in Adraki's family for a long time. It depicted scenes of a wellagrin and a zaba wolf. Adraki explained that the zaba wolf was a creature that his ancestors had domesticated using kao reed flutes, but his father noted that they had not been seen in years. As he performed final checks, Varna signaled the start of the circuit with her flute, and Adraki leapt onto the sled to begin.

His first of three challenges was to gather some heat stones, which he quickly accomplished by searching near the roots of a particular plant where his ancestors had also found the stones, as instructed by the information on his datapad. The group then reached a cluster of trees for the second challenge: retrieving a snowfig. After explaining the snowfig's history as a food source for his ancestors, Adraki admitted that he had not anticipated the fruit being so high up in the tree. The trunk was too slippery to climb, and he wanted to avoid simply having the Jedi use [the Force](/article/the_force], so each individual stood on top of another to reach the snowfig, causing them all to crash to the ground when Adraki finally snagged it.

Wolf it down

As they made their way to the third challenge, which involved crafting a flute from a kao reed, the sled became stuck in some brambles. They dismounted and began to remove the brambles as Adraki expressed his concern about running out of time—they needed to finish by sundown. However, a howl then echoed through the air, and a zaba wolf began to bark at the group. This frightened the wellagrins, who then pulled the sled through the snow. Adraki and the Jedi ran after it, managing to jump back onto the moving vehicle, although Nubs narrowly avoided being bitten by the wolf. Steering onto a side trail to escape the creature, they remained quiet to avoid alerting it.

Gumar has made a new friend.

Adraki noticed that his datapad was broken and accepted his fate as the first member of his family to fail the circuit. His friends encouraged him to have confidence in himself even without the datapad, reminding him that his ancestors had not had one. Upon hearing the mention of his ancestors, Adraki recalled the carving of the zaba wolf, which depicted a kao reed flute being used to befriend it. He found a nearby ice lake, where he knew the reeds grew, and Nubs, followed by the other Jedi, distracted the wolf so that Adraki could run and gather the reeds. He quickly cut one off and fashioned a flute out of it, playing the instrument to draw the wolf's attention away from the Jedi and toward himself.

The wolf still growled when Adraki offered his hand palm-down, but when he switched it, the creature warmed up to him and licked him, offering to let Adraki ride it. Just as the sun began to set, the group made their way back to the starting point, where Varna and Adraki's father were amazed by the zaba wolf. The latter expressed his pride in his son for completing the circuit, giving him, the Jedi, Jam, and the zaba wolf a hug.

Personality and traits

Adraki was encouraging when Brightstar struggled to play the Andraven flute well, assuring him that it was difficult to master. He complimented Solay on her skill with animals, clearly impressed by her talent. When he was responsible for managing the wellagrin hatching, Adraki was quite concerned about the possibility of the eggs becoming too warm. Upon discovering the source of the problem, he did not express anger, instead offering a mutually beneficial solution once the tension had subsided.

During the Ancestors Circuit, Adraki felt the need to be fully prepared for every possible scenario in advance, relying on the information he had stored on his datapad. Along the way, he learned the importance of adapting to unexpected circumstances and trusting himself and his friends. Adraki had [hazel](/article/color] eyes, light blue skin, and was a member of the trunked Andraven species.

Skills and abilities

Adraki was proficient at playing the Andraven flute, which allowed him to guide the wellagrins in the desired direction. He later used a kao reed flute to befriend a zaba wolf.

Equipment

Adraki wore a mustard-and-brown hat with similarly colored clothing. He also wore green mittens and carried his flute on his back with a strap. Adraki heavily relied on his datapad during the Ancestors' Circuit, during which he rode a sled and also crafted a new flute.
