Herf was an Ithorian criminal in the employ of the Sullustan crime boss Surat Nuat. This operation took place on the Outer Rim Territories world of Akiva during the Imperial Era. In the time following the Battle of Endor, Herf, along with fellow criminals Toomata Wree and Makarial Gravin, paid a visit to the teenage scavenger Temmin Wexley's place of business. The purpose was to confront him about the theft of a shipment from one of their boss's downed transports. Makarial demanded Temmin's shop as payment, while Herf brandished a DLT cannon. Temmin's B1-series battle droid bodyguard and companion, "Mister Bones," incapacitated him and his associates. Temmin then instructed Mister Bones to discard the gangsters in the Kora Biedies.
As a male Ithorian gangster, Herf was a member of Surat Nuat's criminal organization after the Battle of Endor. Following the theft of a shipment from one of Surat's destroyed transports by the local human Temmin Wexley, Herf, alongside his colleagues, the Abednedo Toomata Wree and the Koorivar Makarial Gravin, journeyed to Temmin's shop to confront the young man. Speaking in the Ithorese language, he accused the boy of stealing from Surat Nuat, whom he referred to as the "benevolent savior" of Myrra. The gangsters demanded that the boy relinquish his junk shop to them as compensation.
Instead, Temmin activated his modified B1-series battle droid, "Mister Bones." Herf made an attempt to shoot the droid with his DLT cannon, but Bones cleaved it into three pieces. Subsequently, he tackled Herf, slamming him directly into Tooms. Mister Bones then rendered Herf and Tooms unconscious by striking their heads together. Before she could shoot Temmin with a blaster, an interrogator droid neutralized Makarial. Temmin then gave Mister Bones the order to dump the unconscious gangsters into the Kora Biedies. Herf and his cohorts regained consciousness and later rejoined Surat and the other henchmen. Herf suffered a bruised eye during the altercation but was otherwise unharmed. Herf was present when Surat and his underlings captured the Zabrak bounty hunter Jas Emari, who was in the employ of the New Republic.
Herf was a criminal who associated with other criminals and was employed by the crime boss Surat Nuat. Being an Ithorian, he communicated in Ithorese. He was clad in a tattered coat and carried a lengthy DLT cannon over his shoulder. Despite his ability to shoot, he was no match for the modified B1 battle droid Mister Bones, who served Temmin Wexley.
Herf's initial appearance was as a minor antagonist in Chuck Wendig's 2015 novel, Aftermath, which was released as a component of the Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens series.
