Plot summary

Empire's Captives

The episode begins with an exterior view of Tantiss Base. An Imperial nanny droid, accompanied by a group of Imperial scientists and Clone commandos, makes its way into the red screening zone that leads to the Tantiss vault. The nanny droid inserts a datapad into a slot on the wall, which then activates a bell-based alarm system. As the bells quietly ring, Omega and the other Force-sensitive children get out of their beds and make their way to the tables located in the center of the white vault. Omega looks up at the scientists and other personnel in the observation areas above.

Omega introduces herself to the Iktotchi girl, who in turn introduces herself as Eva. Eva tells Omega that the Imperials want them to participate in a hologram game. When Omega notices that Eva is holding a Tooka doll, Eva explains that Dr. Emerie Karr gave it to her, and that she is the only one who is nice to them. Omega then asks if the adults in the observation decks are always watching them, and the Mirialan boy, Jax, confirms that they are. Eva then introduces the other children: Jax, the Pantoran girl Sami, and the young Tarlafar child, Bayrn.

Omega asks how long they have been held there, and Sami responds that the Imperials do not like them talking among themselves too much. Jax cautions that if they make trouble, things will only get worse for them. Jax then signals for Sami to follow him. Before departing, Sami assures Omega that she will eventually get used to it.

Mission briefing

On the gas-covered planet of Bora Vio, Edmon Rampart questions Hunter about why they are at such a "blasted" place. Hunter threatens to return him to the Imperial labor camp if he doesn't cooperate, and Rampart reminds him of the agreement they made. Hunter retorts that Rampart will only be freed once they obtain the precise coordinates for Tantiss Base. Shortly after, Echo arrives in a stolen Rho-class transport shuttle.

Echo states that he stole the shuttle to reach them and that it also carries the supplies they need. Echo expresses his distrust of Rampart. Hunter replies that Rampart is their best chance of finding Omega. The clones and Rampart then board the shuttle. While Wrecker is questioning Rampart on the shuttle, the former Vice Admiral reiterates that Dr. Royce Hemlock keeps Tantiss Base's location a closely guarded secret. He explains that any ship traveling there must first dock at Imperial Station 003, which is in orbit around Coruscant. It is there that the coordinates are directly transmitted to the ship's Navigation computer.

Echo confirms that Imperial Station 003 exists, but he cannot confirm the rest of Rampart's information. Rampart insists that he is telling the truth. After examining a hologram of the station, Hunter suggests traveling to the station, finding a ship that is departing for Tantiss, and extracting its coordinates. Crosshair points out that they will need Imperial clearance codes, to which Echo responds that he has already taken care of that. Rampart warns that those codes are changed every rotation, prompting Hunter to decide that they will leave for Coruscant soon.

Rampart argues that they cannot simply walk into an Imperial station in their current appearances. Crosshair and Hunter then reveal their plan, which involves Rampart disguising himself as an Imperial officer, with the clones posing as his security detail. Rampart is hesitant to impersonate a Captain, considering it a position beneath him. Echo reminds him that he has been demoted, to which Rampart responds that he hates clones.

Omega's plan

Back at Tantiss Base, Dr. Karr is preparing to draw a blood sample from Omega. Omega asks the other children where she came from, but Karr admits that she does not know, while insisting that they are being well cared for. Omega responds that she would like to believe her, as the Tantiss medical droid collects a test tube containing her blood and deposits it into a dumbwaiter system in the wall. While Karr is distracted, Omega steals a small metal tool and conceals it in her sleeve.

Omega then joins the other children at the table area in the vault. In the observation deck, Dr. Scalder objects to allowing Omega to interact with the other children. Karr counters that the children are participating in activities designed to keep their minds active, and she assures her colleague that they are under constant observation. Scalder points out that this did not prevent Omega from escaping previously, but Karr asserts her authority as Chief Scientist and states that she will manage the vault as she sees fit.

While playing with blocks and cubes with the other children, Omega asks them about the movements of droids and troopers. Eva explains that the droids come twice a day to check their vitals after meals, while Jax adds that the troopers are only sent into the vault when they cause trouble. Eva mentions that Jax once tried to escape but did not get very far. Jax says that there is no way out of here and that they will never return home. Omega tells them that she has escaped from Mount Tantiss before, and that she had training and assistance. She declares that she is going to do it again and promises to take them with her.

Omega uses blocks to illustrate the layout of the vault. She explains that their circular prison is surrounded by walls, but there are tubes within the walls that the droids use to transport samples. She says that she needs to get inside to see where the tubes lead. Jax replies that only the droids have access to those hatches. Omega says that she can open them, but she must do it without being seen. Eva warns that they will quickly notice that she is missing, but she replies that she likes the challenge.

Infiltration

As the shuttle nears Imperial Station 003, Rampart reluctantly puts on a Captain's uniform while the clones disguise themselves as Imperial commandos. The technician on duty requests their identification. Echo identifies them as transport shuttle Alpha-44 and transmits their landing codes. The technician grants them clearance to land at Docking Bay 5-02. After ending the communication, Hunter warns that they will have to act quickly, as their shuttle will soon be reported missing. Rampart demands assurance that they will release him if their mission is successful. Crosshair responds that they will have to trust each other, while Wrecker warns him not to mess things up.

Rampart claims that he can blend in, but the clones will stand out like overheated Gamorreans. Before disembarking, Hunter reminds Rampart that the Empire betrayed and imprisoned him, while they freed him. He warns Rampart not to betray them. Rampart replies, "Let's get this over with." Hunter assigns Wrecker to remain aboard the vessel to monitor communications.

Outside, a bearded Imperial officer confronts the group, stating that their shuttle is not on the docking manifest for that day. He notices that the clones' armor is not standard issue and asks which division they are from. Rampart replies that the soldiers are from his division and that his orders are classified. He tells the Lieutenant to check with Governor Wilhuff Tarkin if he doubts his story. The Lieutenant backs down and apologizes. Rampart remarks that he missed this and leads the Bad Batch and Echo inside.

In a corridor, they see several TK stormtroopers walking by. They also pass an MSE series mouse droid and another droid. They approach the control room, which is guarded by two stormtroopers. Rampart convinces them to report to the barracks for further orders by threatening to send them to the brig for violating Article 15 of Imperial Standing Order 10.

Inside the control room, Rampart requests the station's manifest from an Imperial weapons technician. When the technician asks for his access card, Hunter stuns him. Echo uses his cybernetic scomp link to access a computer. Back at the hangar, the Lieutenant confronts Wrecker about an inconsistency in the shuttle's manifest and asks him to verify his ship's signature key. Wrecker leads him inside the shuttle's cargo hold and knocks him unconscious.

Plans in motion

While Echo accesses the computer, Wrecker updates the clones about the Imperial lieutenant via comlink. Hunter tells him to be ready to take off. Echo discovers that a science vessel docked in Bay 8 is scheduled to depart for Tantiss soon. When Hunter suggests accessing the navicomputer and extracting the coordinates, Echo replies that the vessel is tagged for direct uplink after it launches. Crosshair points out that this means there is no way to extract the coordinates and questions Rampart about whether he knowingly withheld this information. Rampart claims that he does not take an interest in such technical details.

When Hunter suggests boarding the science vessel to reach Omega on Tantiss, Rampart points out that science vessels have heightened security protocols. Echo volunteers to infiltrate the ship. Hunter tells him to disable the proximity sensors once he is aboard. Hunter says that they will attach their shuttle to the hull and hitch a ride to Tantiss. Rampart protests that this is not the plan he agreed to. Crosshair counters that plans change, and Hunter orders them to maintain radio silence.

Back at Tantiss Base, Sami is playing with Bayrn. After the droid leaves, Omega returns to her room. Scalder notices her movement and goes to investigate. She uses her tool to remove some of the blocks leading to the dumbwaiter. Scalder enters the vault, but Omega has managed to hide her handiwork. She returns to the table and tells the other children that her escape plan is working.

At the Imperial space station, Echo enters the Imperial science vessel's hangar. Stormtroopers are boarding the vessel, while astromech droids are entering the ship via a suction tube. Echo enters the ship via the suction tube. At the helm of the science vessel, the ship captain Lieutenant Novitz orders his crew to initiate the launch sequence. Meanwhile, the other clones and Rampart return to their shuttle, while Wrecker removes the unconscious lieutenant. Echo contacts them, and Hunter tells him to disable the proximity sensors. The stolen shuttle tails the science vessel.

The science vessel's captain is informed by his crew about unusual droid activity in the rear of the vessel. The clones and Rampart wait for Echo to disable the proximity sensors. Echo stuns a stormtrooper who was sent to check the droid compartment. He gives the captain the go-ahead. Rampart wants to abort the mission, but Hunter is determined to proceed. While Crosshair and Wrecker restrain Rampart, Hunter takes the controls. Echo disables the proximity sensors, giving the other clones enough time to attach the shuttle to the science vessel before the latter jumps into hyperspace.
