Lol sector

The Lol sector, a region situated within the Outer Rim Territories, shared borders with the Merel, Skine, and Tolonda sectors. This sector was part of the Galactic Frontier exploration zone of the Galactic Republic during the High Republic Era. Following its formation in 230 BBY, the Lol sector became one of the ten sectors enveloped by the Occlusion Zone, effectively sealed off from hyperspace travel by a barrier.

Description

The Outer Rim Territories housed the space sector known as the Lol sector. Adjoining sectors included the Merel, Skine, and Tolonda sectors.

History

Harli Cogra documented the formation of the Occlusion Zone, of which the Lol sector was part of, in Chronicles of the Jedi.

During the High Republic Era, the Galactic Republic designated the Lol sector, among other areas in the Outer Rim, as the Galactic Frontier, a region distant enough from the galaxy's core to warrant sending explorers. In 230 BBY, the Occlusion Zone was formed by the Nihil marauder group. This zone, situated within the Outer Rim's Frontier, was protected by the Stormwall barrier, which blocked hyperspace travel.

As one of the ten sectors that defined the Occlusion Zone's perimeter, the Lol sector was isolated from the rest of the Republic, and its inhabitants were compelled to pay tribute to the Nihil. Subsequently, in 229 BBY, Harli Cogra, a Vurk Jedi Master, authored a book titled Chronicles of the Jedi, which chronicled the Jedi of the High Republic Era. In the book's conclusion, Cogra expressed her dismay over the creation of the Nihil's zone and its impact on the ten sectors.

Behind the scenes

In the current canon, the Lol sector was first identified in the first issue of the 2023 Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures comic series.

Within current Star Wars canon, the initial mention of the ten sectors comprising the Occlusion Zone, although unnamed, occurred in a flashback scene of the comic-book miniseries Star Wars: The High Republic: Eye of the Storm, specifically in the second issue. Charles Soule penned this issue, which Marvel Comics released on March 2, 2022 as part of Phase I of the Star Wars: The High Republic project. The first issue of the 2023 comic series Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures, which included a map, later identified the Lol sector by name as one of the sectors within the Occlusion Zone. Daniel José Older wrote this issue, Harvey Tolibao and Nick Brokenshire provided the illustrations, and Dark Horse Comics published it on December 6, 2023, as part of Phase III.

The Lol sector has its roots in the Star Wars Legends continuity. It was initially referenced in Galaxy Guide 9: Fragments from the Rim, a 1993 sourcebook created by Simon Smith and Eric S. Trautmann for use with West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. Later, the StarWars.com Online Companion to the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas, authored by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry, placed the Drexel system within the sector. The Drexel system had previously appeared in the ninth issue of Marvel Comics' 1977 comic-book series Star Wars, written by Roy Thomas, illustrated by Howard Chaykin, and released on December 13, 1977, thereby retroactively marking the Lol sector's first appearance.
