Mushbloom, a type of fungus, was native to the forest of the planet Kashyyyk, located within the Mid Rim Territories. In the year 14 BBY, Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis gathered a mushbloom seed with the intention of planting it inside the terrarium belonging to Greez Dritus, who was a crew member aboard his luxury yacht, the Stinger Mantis. The Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs later used this fungus to create a pie, and he included the recipe in The Life Day Cookbook, his holiday cookbook.
This fungus, known as the mushbloom, was native to Kashyyyk, a planet with forests situated in the Mid Rim Territories. It thrived in and around the mountains that enclosed the revered Origin Tree. The mushbloom featured a brown stem and a bulbous, bioluminescent fruiting body. Considered a delicacy by the Wookiee species, it served as a valuable source of nourishment. When fully mature, the fruiting body exhibited a yellowish-green hue. Harvesting had to occur before complete maturation, as the fungus became highly poisonous at that stage. Although rare, poisoning from this fungus was frequently fatal.

During the year 14 BBY, Cal Kestis, a Jedi Padawan and member of the Stinger Mantis's crew, which was a luxury yacht, gathered a mushbloom seed from the mountains near the Origin Tree while on a mission to restore the Jedi Order. Kestis then proceeded to plant the seed in the terrarium of his companion, Greez Dritus, aboard the Mantis, as one of several seeds collected by Kestis to express gratitude to Dritus for his support during the Mantis crew's mission.
Between 4 ABY and 5 ABY, Jaxxon T. Tumperakki, a Lepi smuggler, experienced a recurring nightmare where Han Solo, another smuggler, explained that transporting mushblooms from Kashyyyk during the Wookiee Festival of Bounty was considered unlucky.
At some time, Strono Tuggs, an Artiodac chef, developed the mushbloom pie, a dish more palatable for species with less carnivorous dietary habits than the Wookiees. He later shared the recipe for this pie in The Life Day Cookbook, his holiday cookbook that was published following the release of his initial cookbook in 34 ABY.
Mushblooms were featured alongside various nutritious Wookiee foods in The Secrets of the Wookiees, a book about Wookiees authored by the protocol droid C-3PO and released sometime after 35 ABY. This book contained an illustration of the fungus and consisted of information relayed to C-3PO by his Wookiee friend, Chewbacca.
The first appearance of mushblooms was in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, a video game released in 2019 and developed by Respawn Entertainment.
