Nadea Tural

Nadea Tural was a female Thradian who served as the representative for the planet of Thrad within the Imperial Senate during the time of the Imperial Era. In the year 4 BBY, while en route to Arkanis, Tural's vessel was involved in an accident. The crew of the Ghost, a starship operated by a group opposing the Empire, came to her rescue. Initially, Tural felt disdain and apprehension towards these rebels, but her perspective shifted when Commander Earll of the Galactic Empire boarded the Ghost and threatened the rebels with summary execution.

Tural's growing sympathy for the rebellion resulted in her imprisonment at the Arrth-Eno Prison Complex located on Imperial Center. She met her end when Rebel spy Eneb Ray attempted to free her and other imprisoned senators from the complex. Unbeknownst to them, this rescue attempt was a scheme orchestrated by the Emperor, Darth Sidious, to draw all Rebel spies on Coruscant into a single location, where he intended to eliminate both the senators and spies by destroying the prison. The Emperor then exploited this event as propaganda against the Rebel Alliance, falsely accusing them of killing the senators in a terrorist act.

Biography

Encounter with the Spectres

Nadea Tural, a female Thradian, was a politician who represented her home planet of Thrad in the Imperial Senate; the de jure legislative body of the Galactic Empire. In the year 4 BBY, Tural was traveling to the planet Arkanis, but a malfunction in the hyperdrive of her Star Commuter 2000 shuttle led to a crash.

Despite sustaining injuries, Tural was able to transmit a distress call, which was picked up by the Ghost, a light freighter belonging to a band of individuals opposed to the Empire. Tural's initial reaction upon realizing who had come to her aid was fear, as she believed the rebels might torture her. However, the rebels, under the leadership of the Twi'lek captain Hera Syndulla and the exiled Jedi Kanan Jarrus, were determined to demonstrate to the senator that the Empire she served was, in reality, an oppressive power.

Tural attempting to stop Commander Earll from executing the rebels

Tural was initially skeptical, but her perspective soon changed. An Imperial Gozanti-class cruiser, having also received the distress signal, attacked the Ghost. A squad of stormtroopers led by Commander Earll boarded the rebel vessel. Earll's forces compelled the rebels to surrender and ordered their immediate execution. Senator Tural was outraged by the commander's decree and insisted that the Ghost crew be given a fair trial. Earll dismissed Tural's protests, asserting that the Senate had no authority in the matter.

As the stormtroopers prepared to fire, the senator intervened, positioning herself in front of Commander Earll, which allowed Kanan Jarrus to use the Force push to move everyone out of harm's way. The rebels gained the advantage and forced the Imperial troops back to their ship. Subsequently, Senator Tural was taken to the planet of Camson by her rebel rescuers. While she did not condone all of their actions, she expressed her gratitude for saving her life and providing her with a clearer understanding of the Imperial Senate's true powerlessness.

Encouraging the rebels

After Syndulla and her crew revealed the Palpatine regime's atrocities to her, Tural began secretly aiding those who wished to resist the Empire. Through a fellow Thradian named Beneda, she facilitated transport for Swain and Cogon, two Imperial defectors who had sought refuge on Thrad. Tural had intended to send the defectors to the planet Klonoid, where they were to join a rebel cell, but they were apprehended by Agent Kallus of the Imperial Security Bureau before their departure.

Imprisonment and death

Tural and other Rebel sympathizers were almost saved by Eneb Ray.

Tural became a sympathizer with the rebellion within the Senate. The Emperor, Darth Sidious, disbanded the Senate not long before the Battle of Yavin, and Tural's views led to her arrest. She was imprisoned within the Arrth-Eno Prison Complex. Sometime after the Battle of Yavin, Rebel spy Eneb Ray received orders from Princess Leia Organa of the Rebel Alliance to infiltrate Arrth-Eno, where Tural and other senators sympathetic to the Rebel cause were scheduled for execution. Upon successfully entering the facility, Tural informed Ray that the Emperor himself was planning to visit the prison to oversee their executions. Consequently, Ray and other Rebel spies devised a plot to assassinate the Emperor. However, unbeknownst to the spies, the Emperor's supposed presence was a ruse to lure all of the Rebel spies on Coruscant to a single location. The Emperor sent only a body double, and the Empire proceeded to destroy the prison, resulting in the deaths of Tural, the other senators, and all of the spies except for Ray. Following their deaths, the Emperor broadcast a message across Coruscant, falsely claiming that the Rebels had destroyed Arrth-Eno in an act of terrorism, thereby depriving the senators of a trial.

Behind the scenes

Nadea Tural made her first appearance in the "Senate Perspective" comic strip featured in the ninth issue of the Star Wars Rebels Magazine, which was released on September 9, 2015. In designing Tural, artist Ingo Römling drew inspiration from sketches created by Ralph McQuarrie, the concept artist for the Star Wars original trilogy.
