Ooris Bynar

Ooris Bynar, a male bounty hunter of the Thisspiasian species, operated during the Galactic Empire's era. He became an associate of Khel Tanna and her group of rogues, undertaking assignments for galactic underworld figures like Jabba Desilijic Tiure. When Nakano Lash, a former bounty hunting professional, resurfaced, Bynar made it his goal to find her, believing that capturing her would establish his reputation as a capable hunter. After pursuing Lash's former apprentice, Beilert Valance, across various star systems, Bynar finally located Lash on the planet of Ruusan within the Teraab sector. There, he discovered that the ex-hunter was safeguarding a young girl named Cadeliah. Underestimating the child's resourcefulness, Bynar let down his guard and was defeated by the pair, with Lash strangling him to his death using his own tail.

Biography

Nest of vipers

During the Galactic Empire's rule, Ooris Bynar made a living as a bounty hunter, becoming known for the extensive collateral damage he often caused. The male Thisspiasian joined forces with the unscrupulous Khel Tanna and her team, accepting jobs from clients such as Jabba Desilijic Tiure of the Hutt Clan. One particular assignment led the crew to Galator III, a planet renowned for its casinos, where they executed a heist targeting one of the world's numerous gambling establishments. Their pilot, Han Solo, nearly jeopardized the mission by arriving late for the team's extraction. Despite this, Solo successfully retrieved the entire crew and escaped Galator III aboard the Millennium Falcon. After returning to Tatooine, Jabba credited Solo with the entire mission, causing Tanna's crew to sever ties with the Corellian and his Wookiee co-pilot, Chewbacca.

Later on, Bynar and the remaining members of Tanna's crew traveled to the Mollo Tanka planetoid to begrudgingly rescue Solo after they learned that he possessed information about a valuable prize for Jabba: a verillix urn containing the remains of Krestrel D'Naran. The crew intended to have Solo lead them to the urn and then claim the profits for themselves, but complications arose when they discovered that the criminal Corbus Tyra had taken the prize on Antillion. Tyra, who had previously revealed himself to be Solo's father, had been apprehended by Marshal Buck Vancto and taken to the Benelex Marshal Service Headquarters on Paqualis III. The crew initiated a mission that resulted in Tyra's extraction but left Chewbacca injured. Bynar informed Tanna about the injury, and she ordered her team to abandon the Wookiee and escape with their target.

Final hunt

Ooris watches over Syphacc's Bountiful Bounties.

In the year 3 ABY, Nakano Lash, a former bounty hunter who had vanished after betraying fellow hunters during a previous mission, supposedly reappeared, leading to numerous bounties being placed on her head. Syphacc, the proprietor of Syphacc's Bountiful Bounties, offered one such bounty, which Bynar attempted to claim. Syphacc hesitated due to the hunter's reputation, but the Thisspiasian's powerful tail-choke changed his mind. However, Syphacc remained skeptical of Bynar's chances and contacted the renowned hunter Boba Fett about the job shortly after Bynar's departure.

To locate Lash, Bynar tracked Beilert Valance, her former bounty hunting protégé, following him to a safe house in Phelar Port on Eriadu. There, Valance obtained a clue to Lash's whereabouts and departed for the graveyard planet of Galmerah aboard his starship, the Broken Wing. Bynar shadowed him from a distance in his own vessel. Upon arriving at the planet, Valance and his droid, Nine-Four-El, discovered coordinates to Lash's location but were ambushed by Bossk, who was also pursuing Lash. During the ensuing conflict, Bynar ambushed Nine-Four-El and stole the droid's head, slicing into its memory to learn that Lash was on Ruusan.

As hunters throughout the Teraab sector searched for Lash, Bynar found her hideout on Ruusan and discovered that she was protecting a young girl named Cadeliah. Upon Lash's return, she found Cadeliah held captive by Bynar, who threatened to kill the youngling if Lash approached. However, the girl was not as defenseless as Bynar believed; she unsheathed a concealed knife and stabbed him in the head. With Cadeliah freed, Lash stepped in with a blade of her own, severing one of Bynar's hands and ultimately strangling him to death with his own tail. Valance and his companion T'onga, who had previously worked alongside Bynar in Khel Tanna's crew, later discovered the Thisspiasian's body and pondered Lash's next destination.

Personality and traits

Ooris Bynar was a Thisspiasian male characterized by brown hair and green skin. The bounty hunter exhibited aggression, as demonstrated by his strangulation of Syphacc to secure the bounty on Nakano Lash. Bynar held Beilert Valance, a fellow bounty hunter, in contempt, referring to him as a "cyborg freak" due to his extensive cybernetic implants.

Equipment

Throughout his career, Bynar typically wore a blue coat over a purple jacket and white armor, complemented by gloves on one pair of hands. He also wore a mask covering the lower part of his face. Bynar carried a blaster pistol stored in a holster and occasionally wielded EE-4 carbine rifles in all four of his arms. Bynar made use of a starship in his pursuit of Lash.

Behind the scenes

Ooris Bynar's debut occurred in Bounty Hunters 1, a comic penned by Ethan Sacks, illustrated by Paolo Villanelli, and published by Marvel Comics on March 11, 2020. Bynar was subsequently featured in Star Wars: Han Solo & Chewbacca; this comic, set earlier in the timeline, introduced minor inconsistencies with his prior appearances. In Han Solo & Chewbacca 1, colorist Alex Sinclair portrayed Bynar with entirely orange skin, contrasting with the character's original depiction in Star Wars: Bounty Hunters, where Arif Prianto rendered him with green skin. Bynar's face was later colored green in Han Solo & Chewbacca 5, but the majority of his body remained orange. Furthermore, Bynar is depicted as having collaborated with the bounty hunter T'onga on several missions, despite her claim of not recognizing his corpse in Bounty Hunters 4.
